2 President Art and his Extra 300 Secretary's Report: The August minutes are as follows: A grand total of 10 members were present. The July minutes were read aloud by secretary Bill Hallsworth. A motion was made to accept them and passed unanimously. The treasury report was presented by Byron Hamrick; a motion was made to accept and passed unanimously. The members present authorized Bill Dewitt to purchase 6 tarps (at $2.00 each) to protect the sides of the tent for the Glass Fest. Jon Fish confirmed the football field will be ready for our demonstration at 2:30. Ira Sherman has agreed to let us display another vintage motorcycle; it was one his father used for racing and stunts (very cool!). The club discussed preparation for the giant scale fly-in; Jon Fish will handle the food purchase (thanks Jon!). Art Frye brought up the current plight of the Mississinewa club (field was destroyed by floods). Several area clubs are interested in sponsoring a benefit fly-in to help cover repairs. Art Frye will coordinate with the other clubs. Glass Festival Flight Report: I am very happy to report that there all the demo flights went well. The grass was a bit tall, but Mike Sharp's Big Stik handled it okay (a bit of a rough landing, but no damage to the airplane). Tom Seres demonstrated the graceful flight of a glider with his Radian. He presented two nice flights and even threw in a high speed pass and a few loops. And let's not forget Jon Fish...he brought his trainer and allowed a guest to fly for the first time. The first flight went a bit long (ran out of fuel on landing) but otherwise both flights were crowd pleasers.

4 Treasurer's Report: 1. Financial report Month of august; deposits: / expenses: see byron for details (list available at meeting.) 2. Tractor barn robbery: If you haven't heard, someone stole the generator, air compressor, new weed eater, gas can, and flashlight. The disturbing thing discovered is that no locks or doors were forced. whomever did the deed knew the combinations of all locks and how to get in with the keys stored in the main building. (a member???????). The police were called and report filed with the known information we had on file, but with no serial numbers on the generator or air compressor or weed eater it looks like we are out of options for recovery of the stolen items Lock changes: We now have an additional lock on the tractor barn overhead door. the keys for the new lock are with the mowing crew only. (Art,Mike S,Tom K,Mike B, Byron) We will discuss additional key holders at the next meeting. 4. Insurance options: we need to decide what and if we are going to turn this into the INS CO. for reimbursement The policy has a $250 deduct able and we lost approx $800 or so in equipment. we as members need to decide our next move. Please, we need all available members at the next meeting for this discussion. Glass Festival Proceeds: total raffle sales for the glass festival totaled 918 dollars was start up funds. the chamber of commerce charged us for the 2 booth spaces. also, we now need to buy another raffle prize which will probably cost us 200+? for next year... so we cleared 653 which will end up being around 400 after buying a new raffle plane... A big thanks to all who were there and all who helped to set up and tear down. I personally had a great time seeing old friends and handing out suckers to the 2-4 year olds. The fair food was fun and even the weather was great...i think i was the recipient of a lot of jokes being played but it was still great fun. so on to the swap meet... happy flying Byron From our Newsletter Editor: Hi all, and Happy September. Should be some improvements in the newsletter coming up. The ever helpful Joe Bays, a professional photographer by trade, has offered to help with cleaning up the photos to make them look better. If I can figure out the logistics of getting them to him far enough in advance of publishing time to make it work, it should make our newsletter look better. Thanks, Joe! Since there is a lot of Glass Festival content in this issue, I'll keep my column short. Enjoy the photos! 5 From Joe the Webmonster: Giant Scale RC Airplanes Giant Scale RC Airplanes are quite the opposite of Peanut scale! Some of these airplanes are literally large enough to ride in. Although I wouldn't suggest trying it! Giant Scale flying events in the US are for4 RC aircraft that are A: true quarter scale or B: for single wing aircraft have at least an 80 wing span C: A bi-plane must have a minimum of 60 wing span. So the next time you see a plane advertised as Giant Scale, you'll know what that means! And believe it or not, there are large scale radio control airplanes even larger than that! The above GIANT scale B-52 has a wingspread of 22 feet and weighs 265 pounds when fueled! This monster is powered by 8 turbine engines that cost nearly a couple grand a piece! This coming Saturday September 12th, there is a GIANT SCALE FLY-IN at our flying field. Come and enjoy yourself! Joe Bays Tom's Ramblings By Tom Seres

6 It's been a while since I wrote an article for the News letter. Had a rough Summer with the RC Hobby. I did manage to build 3 new planes for myself and a couple for Art. Also switched out an engine on my sons Edge and re set it up. Have not had the time to do my usual flying since I got a Job. Between lousy weather and my job taking up my days during the week. I'm left to fly on the weekend or after work. Most of the time after work I'm tired and don't feel like it. The lousy weather did give me more building time. I sure needed it. I built a 35% PAU Extra. A 30% PAY Sukhoi and an AJ Laser 230. I have also been plagued with the gremlins. Little things like the Canopy flying off. An Engine that didn't want to run. Glitching because the Smart Fly board went bad. Running all the little things down took up most of the spring and half the Summer. I'm very happy to report that things are working fine now and I'm finally starting to enjoy flying again. See you at the meeting and don't forget the Giant Scale Meet. 7 Event CD Ron Pierce Glass Festival Report By Jon Fish Well another one has come and gone and once again we managed to pull off another successful event. Though we were missing some key players this year. We did pretty well with the raffle though we didn t set any sales records. The club did profit from the event. The weather cooperated again this year with clear sky s and somewhat moderate temps. Byron Hamrick donned his clown suit once again and passed out suckers to the kids that passed by. Ira Sherman arranged to have his dads 1948 Indian racing bike at the booth and it was a big attention getter. Our flight demonstration was a little off key as we didn t get the participation that was promised. But I don t think the crowd cared. Mike Sharp flew his Ugly Stick with an ailing engine but still managed to put on a show. This year we pulled a person out of the grand stands for a hands on flight demo with the trainer. It went really well as he did a fairly good job flying. The kids event was also a good turn out and we gave away prizes for three age groups. Bill Hallsworth filled in as air-boss for the flight demo in Dave Johnstons absence. Joyce Wilson showed up for a while though still not feeling well, helped sell tickets for a while. She sure was missed this year. The rest of the day went well with many visitors to the booth. Sunday was pretty much the same with off and on spurts of activity. Our booth was well set up and had a good variety of planes for display through out the event. Bill DeWitt once again volunteered his flight simulator and Bill Hallsworth volunteered a video projection system for a better view for the simulator. We had a number of people try their hands at it, even some nuns. Our booth was well manned through the event though we could have had a little better participation from our membership. We had several members who gave up their entire weekend to help put this on. I want to say thanks to all who helped put this on and another job well done! Winner Joe Newby and the Cub The little plane that could. Well this year we finally gave that electric Cub a home. Spending four Glass Festivals strapped to a circus tent then spending the rest of it's time setting in a dusty corner of my house. If you look back on those four years, the previous winners opting for the cash instead of the plane. One winner even

8 donated his winnings back to club. Yes if you look back and tally it up our club did quite well off that little plane. Yes sir that little plane did it's job well.
