3 Welcome to the 2012 AAE Arizona Cup We are happy to host archers from around the country and the world and wish you the best as you compete and enjoy the desert of the southwestern USA. To the first timers, Howdy and we hope you can make it to the AAE Arizona Cup every year. To those that are returning, Welcome Back, we hope you enjoy visiting with friends after a short winter or after many years. Since the early 1970s AAE has strived to provide the best in archery products so it is natural for us to support the tradition that is the Arizona Cup. AAE and USA Archery and the tournament sponsors are pleased to be providing over $13,600 in prize money and awards. Please take time to thank the tournament team that makes it possible for the archers to do what you do. Shoot well, have fun and may the best archers reach the top of the podium. Yours truly, Dan Fisher Vice-President, Arizona Archery Enterprises Inc. On Behalf of the Arizona State Archery Association, It gives us great pleasure to host the AAE Arizona Cup for the World Archery community! Thanks to the archers, sponsors and supporters, the ASAA is able to help grow target archery. Over the years the Arizona State Archery Association has helped to certify instructors and coaches, start clubs, provide equipment, support world and state team members, train judges, host events, publicize, educate, recognize the achievement of target archers and helped all to have target archery fun. Your patronage makes a difference! Thank you, Mike Cullumber President Arizona State Archery Association From the Tournament, Thank you all for taking part in the 2012 AAE Arizona Cup. We would not be able to host the tournament without the support of the archers, volunteers, officials and staff. This year we are excited to introduce USA Archery prize money awards for 2012 USAT Series Events courtesy of an Easton Foundations grant. We thank World Archery Americas for nominating and WA for awarding World Ranking status to the AZ Cup. Thank you Easton Sports Development Foundation and USA Archery for providing timing and electronic scoring and the staff to make it all happen. Special thanks to our title sponsor AAE and the tournament sponsors, BCY, Carter and SKB for providing tournament cash prizes and awards. 9 RECURVE DIVISION INDIVIDUALS Brief Summary of Rules Please review actual published WORLD ARCHERY Rules for complete requirements QUALIFICATION ROUND: 70m/60m ROUND (72 arrows x 2 Rounds)= 144 arrows ( all 6 arrow ends) (Adults and Juniors 70 meters on 122cm target face) (Cadets 60 meters on 122cm target face) ELIMINATION ROUND RANKING: Recurve Juniors, Recurve Para will be combined with Recurve Seniors for Adult elimination ranking. Recurve Cadets are eligible for Recurve Cadet elimination only. INDIVIDUAL ELIMINATION ROUND FORMAT SET SYSTEM: All Adult individual matches are at 70m on a 122cm face. All Cadet individual matches are at 60m on a 122cm face. All matches leading into the medals consist of a maximum of 5 sets of 3 arrows per set. The winner of each set, is the athlete who has the highest cumulative arrow score with his three arrows and receives two (2) set points. If the set is tied each athlete gets 1 set point. The winner of the match is determined by the total set points won, not the value of the arrows. The match winner is the first to reach 6 or more set points. The match will finish once the 6 set points is reached within the 5 sets. If the match is tied after 5 sets, a one arrow (only!) shoot off will be used to break the tie. The archer whose arrow is closest to the center (if needed it will be measured) will get 1 extra point and wins the match. The athletes shoot simultaneously their arrows and have two (2) minutes to shoot 3 arrows. INDIVIDUAL MEDAL ROUND FORMAT SET SYSTEM: The medal match consists of a maximum of 5 sets of 3 arrows per set. The match winner is the first to achieve 6 match points. INDIVIDUAL MEDAL ROUND FORMAT CUMULATIVE SYSTEM: The medal match consists of 5 ends of 3 arrows per set. (150 points is the maximum score) The match winner is the athlete with the most points. 10 TEAM Each team shoots a total of 4 ends of 6 arrows, with the three team members shooting 2 arrows each per end. Each team will have 2 minutes (120 seconds) to complete each end. The total of all 24 arrows will be added to determine a total score (max score = 240). Team Medal matches at the Arizona Cup will be shot simultaneously. (no alternating shooting) In case of tie, each team member will shoot one arrow each. The team has 60 seconds to shoot all three arrows. MIXED TEAM The competition has the same principles as for teams, however there are only two athletes competing one woman and one man per country. Each mixed team will have 1 minute 20 seconds (80 seconds) to complete each end. Mixed Teams shoot a total of 4 ends, with each team member shooting 2 arrows per end for a total of 16 arrows (max score= 160). Mixed Team Medal matches at the Arizona Cup will be shot simultaneously. (no alternating shooting) In case of tie, each team member will shoot one arrow each. The team has 40 seconds to shoot both arrows. Note: the mixed teams are ranked based on the results from the top ranked man and the top ranked woman from the same Member Association. However, the Member Association can choose the man and the woman (among the official whole team) who will shoot the matches. SCORECARDS AND RESULTS Archers are responsible for the arrow value, the total sum, the 10s and the Xs. Remember that the 10 count includes both 10s and Xs. X count is only Xs. Archers need to turn in their paper scorecards to have their scores recorded by the tournament. Archers will have a maximum of ONE HOUR from the end of shooting to turn in their completed paper scorecards. However, Archers should promptly turn in their scorecards to help keep the tournament on schedule. If two arrow values on the paper scorecards disagree once the arrows are withdrawn the archer receives the lower value. Once the paper scorecards are signed and turned into event organizers: If a box is not filled in it may be zero (including a total score or distance score) If a score total is greater than correct it gets corrected If a score total is lesser than correct it may stay the lower score Results are deemed official upon the presentation of the awards. Arrow values on the paper scorecards are the official scores taking precedence over the electronic arrow values. ELECTRONIC SCORECARD ETIQUETTE The Tournament depends on all scores being entered into the handheld unit and cannot proceed until each end is entered. Archers not entering the scores will be sent back to the target to enter them. In case of a system glitch, please wait at the target until the DOS announces further instructions. Treat the electronic scoring system as an additional scorecard. When there are 4 people on a target: 2 paper scorers 1 electronic scorer Online Results may be found at: 1 arrow caller When there are 3 people on a target: 2 paper scorers 1 arrow caller/electronic scorer Check the athlete names on the hand held terminals for correctness at the beginning of PRACTICE. Enter scores into the hand held terminals concurrently with the paper scorecards. DO NOT enter scores for absent archers. DO NOT enter your scores under the name of another. DO NOT rely on the electronic scoring system for addition on the paper scorecards! Compare the totals of the electronic scorecard with the paper scorecard before pulling arrows. Any errors made in the current end can be fixed through the hand held terminal. Any errors made in a previous end should be brought to the attention of the results team (Bring scorecards) If information on the hand held terminal is incorrect, bring it to the attention of the results team. If there is a discrepancy between scorecards and the hand held terminals, please check your paper scorecard addition first. Page 8 of 13 XXIII AAE Arizona Cup
