2 POINT PLEASANT Gotta Regatta that will be the phrase heard by many as the Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta officially kicks off on Thursday, July 1. The patriotic celebration is a community wide event that features activities for the entire family. The three-day festival also provides entertainment from both local and nationally known entertainers. The Gospel Sing will jump start this year s festival at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The sing will take place at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park main stage, and will feature the Victory River Quartet, Sacrifice of Praise and Romans Highway. Also taking place at 6 p.m. will be the cornhole tournament at Tu- Endie-Wei State Park. Two-person teams may register to compete in the tournament. Winning teams will receive cash and prizes. The annual Regatta Queen Pageant also is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at the State Theatre, located on Main St. Seven young ladies are set to compete for this year s queen title. Once selected, the pageant winner will get to reign over the festival. Additional activities are set for Thursday evening, including a rock band performance and teen karaoke at 8 p.m. The local band, All of the Above, also will perform on the Tu-Endie-Wei State Park stage at 9 p.m. Friday s Regatta schedule will be just as jam-packed with the pet contest kicking things off at 5 p.m. at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park. Also taking place at Tu-Endie-Wei will be the Showboat Pretty Baby Contest, slated to start at 6 p.m. The River Princess Pageant, which will be emceed by the newly crowned Regatta Queen, will take place 6 p.m. at the State Theatre. At riverfront park, the WBYG 99.5 Colgate Country Showdown will begin at 6 p.m. Friday s activities will come to a close with the Teen Dance Off at 8 p.m. and a performance by Midnight Special at 9 p.m. Saturday will serve as the festival s busiest day as several events are scheduled. The PVH 5k River Run will get the day off to an early start at 8:30 a.m., with race registration slated for 7:30 a.m. The Regatta Parade will follow at 11 a.m. The rest of the day will be busy with Kids Day Activities from noon-5 p.m.; Cruise-In-Car Show at noon; Teen Cornhole Tournament at 1 p.m.; Pickin In the Park Bluegrass from 1:30-5 p.m.; Line Throw Contest at 2 p.m.; Teen 3-Legged Race at 4 p.m.; Teen Sack Races at 5 p.m.; Teen Hula Hoop Contest at 6 p.m; and a Crashing Jericho performance at 6:30 p.m.. This year s Regatta headline performer, David Nail, will take to the riverfront park main stage at 8 p.m. Saturday. Nail is a rising country star, whose singles having risen on the country music charts. Following Nail s performance. 3 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Page 3 FEATURED ENTERTAINMENT Country star David Nail headlines 2010 Regatta POINT PLEASANT The Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta has once again secured a popular performer. Headlining this year s festival will be country singer David Nail. Nail released his first single Red Light in 2009 and the song skyrocketed to the top five on the Nail country charts. Red Light also was the longest charted single in media base history at 42 weeks. Nail s most recent single, entitled Turning Home, was recently released and is currently moving up the charts. The single was written by Scooter Carusoe ( Better as a Memory, Anything But Mine ) and fellow country singer, Kenny Chesney. Regatta Chairman Jacob Hill said that the Regatta committee was excited to bring top-notch entertainment to this year s festival. We are pleased to once again have a hot rising country star to appear at our festival, Hill said. Nail will take to the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park stage on Saturday, July 3 at 8 p.m.

6 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Page 6 All the Above: Local band takes Regatta stage POINT PLEASANT With their original sound built on hard-driving metal riffs, unique drum beats and funky bass lines, All the Above will sure to entertain the crowd who gathers at 9 p.m. on Thursday night, July 1, at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park during the first day of the 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta. Composed of brothers, Stephen and Zach Sanders, along with Korey Henry and Paul Pickens, All the Above has already become an established local band in Mason County, being the very first concert held during the 2010 Mayor s Night Out concert series at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park. The band also volunteers in the community by helping out with the Point Pleasant Homeless Shelter. With a combination of melodic harmonizing vocals, led by Henry, the end result is a hard rock experience mixed with the sounds of the Sanders guitar and bass talents in addition to the beat lines given by Pickens. The band has several accomplishments including working with Jared Mankin from Bobaflex who helped the four produce the single, Till My Fingers Bleeed. All the Above also has played with national act, Hydrovibe, competed in the battle for X-Fest at the Skybox, and recorded their music video for their hit song.

10 POINT PLEASANT With so much to see and do at the 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta, you re bound to find something fun for you. From a cornhole tournament to teen karaoke, a pet contest and teen dance-off, as well as the line throw contest, the three day event is sure to provide much entertainment for kids and adults alike. On Thursday, the first day of the Regatta, the popular and competitive sport of cornhole will be sure to have many adults looking for a win. The tournament will take place at 6 p.m. at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park. And teens wishing to sing their favorite pop, country or rock song can participate in the teen karaoke contest which will take place at Gunn Park at 8 p.m. A pet contest and teen dance-off will be among activities on Friday. Other events taking place this day include the WBYG Big Country 99.5 Colgate Country Showdown which will discover new talent at the Point Pleasant Riverfront Park. The pet contest also will find a winner amongst the sea of furry friends. It begins at Tu-Endie Wei at 5 p.m., with the dance-off for teens wanting to show off their dance moves at 8 p.m., also at the state park. And of course, the last day of the much anticipated event will have the most activities for old and young alike. During Saturday, a parade and river run will be sure to draw crowds, and so will the the Cruise- In Car Show that takes place on Main Street at noon after the cars and runners have gone through. Kids Day and Teen Day activities also will bring in those looking for some fun activities. Kids activities will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the riverfront park with the following activities and times: Noon Game Show 12:30 p.m. Regatta Scavenger Hunt (register at riverfront park picnic shelter) 1 p.m. Hole in the Bucket 1:30 p.m. Bubble Blowing Contest 2 p.m. Marble Ice Fishing 2:30 p.m. Hula Hoop Contest 3 p.m. Over & Under Relay 3:30 p.m. Wheel of Fortune 4 p.m. Lip-Sync Contest Teens also will have many activities to participate in. Other events taking place this day are the line throw contest at the Point Pleasant River Museum at 2 p.m. This also will be the day for some of the best bluegrass entertainment around with Pickin in the Park taking place from 1:30 to 5 p.m. And of course the Regatta wouldn t be the Regatta without the fireworks show which begins at 10 p.m. and the Rockin Reggae show taking place after the colorful, big fireworks light up the sky over Point Pleasant and the 2010 Regatta Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Page 10 Many fun activities scheduled for Regatta

11 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Page 11 Colgate Country Showdown set for July 2 POINT PLEASANT Anticipation and excitement is higher than ever as aspiring country music artists prepare for the 29th Annual Colgate Country Showdown at the Point Pleasant Riverfront on Friday, July 2nd at 6:30 p.m. WBYG will host America s largest country music talent search and radio promotion, sponsored by Peoples Bank, Angell Accounting, Karat Patch Diamonds-N-Gold, Home National Bank, and Dairy Queen. The Riverfront Park, located behind the Point Pleasant Post Office, will provide the perfect atmosphere to feature the best and most entertaining talent in our area. Acts will compete for monetary prizes and the opportunity to perform at the West Virginia State Colgate Country Showdown in Parkersburg. State winners vie for a $1,000 cash prize and will advance to a regional competition in the fall. The five regional winners are awarded an all-expense paid trip to the National Final where they will compete for the $100,000 Grand Prize and the National Title. The Colgate Country Showdown gives aspiring country music artists in America a chance to launch their professional careers. Audiences may be seeing, hearing, and applauding the next country music star. Open to vocal and/or instrumental peformers, the Colgate Country Showdown welcomes individual acts or groups with up to seven members to compete. Acts also must not have performed on a record charted in the top 100 country format of Billboard, Radio and Records, or the Gavin Report within eighteen months preceding the local competition. To ensure fairness, a uniform judging system is used on all levels of competition. A $15 entry fee is required of all acts entering the Coglate Country Showdown competitions produced by participating country music radio stations. 12 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Page 12 PVH 5K River Run set for Saturday POINT PLEASANT For fitness enthusiasts or for those looking to do something active, the Regatta River Run 5K will take place on Saturday, July 3. The 3.1 mile race will start at 8:30 a.m. Registration and the start line will be at the Fourth St. floodwall entrance. Those registering the day of the race may do so from 7:30-8:15 a.m. The 5K will begin at the Fourth St. Floodwall entrance, located by the Point Pleasant Post Office, and will run through town on paved city streets. The race will finish at the entrance to Tu-Endie-Wei State Park. Trophies will be presented to both Pleasant Valley Hospital 5K River Run 8:30 a.m. July 3 Registration at 7:30 a.m. Registration fee: $15 the overall male and female finishers. Awards also will be presented to the first place finishers in each age group: 20 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 60 and over. To participate in the 5K, a $15 registration fee is required. Free t-shirts will be presented to the first 50 entrants. Souvenir number bibs and goody bags will be provided to participants.

13 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Page 13 Regatta Pretty Baby, Showboat contest POINT PLEASANT Those wishing to sign their young ones up for the Regatta s Showboat Pretty Baby Contest can now do so. The contest, which is sponsored by the Charlie s Angels Relay for Life team, will take place 6 p.m. Friday, July 2. Those pre-registered before June 30 must pay $10 to enter, while those registered after June 30 or on the day of the contest must pay a $15 fee. The event will take place on the Tu-Endie-Wei State Park stage. Casual attire is required of all participants. One boy and one girl will be chosen from each age group: 0-6 months, 6-12 months, months, months, three years old, four years old and five years old. Those winning in the five year old category also will be named Mister and Miss Showboat. Kids of all ages are sure to have a great time at the Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta, just like this young man did during the 2009 festival.

14 2010 Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Page 14 Fitzpatrick selected as Regatta Parade grand marshal POINT PLEASANT Everyone loves a parade, and the Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta Parade is slated for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, with lineup set for 10 a.m. at the Mason County Board of Education Office. This year s event will feature Josh Fitzpatrick as the grand marshal. Fitzpatrick currently works for WSAZ as a meteorologist. He grew up in the Gallipolis and Crown City, Ohio, areas and is a graduate of Gallia Academy High School. Fitzpatrick attended Mississippi State University, where he studied broadcast meteorology and geography. In addition, the parade will feature the newly crowned Regatta royalty as well as other festival royalty. Area clubs, groups and organizations also are encouraged to participate in this year s event. Cornhole will be one of the many fun events to enjoy during Regatta.
