Last Wednesday some students went to Warwick Castle to film a TV advert.

We interviewed Josh Jackson who was one of the people that was in the TV advert.

When we got there, we walked up to where the trebuchet was and then we watched the trebuchet launch and ate our lunch.

1 Last Wednesday some students went to Warwick Castle to film a TV advert. The students that went where: Karina,Meera,Amy,Ella,Anna K,Tom,Brandon,Godwin,Wyatt,Jonathan,Josh Sophie and Adelaide. We interviewed Josh Jackson who was one of the people that was in the TV advert. Josh Jackson: The day started by us getting on the coach and it took us about 45 minutes to get there. When we got there, we walked up to where the trebuchet was and then we watched the trebuchet launch and ate our lunch. After that, we walked to where the jousting stand bus it was delayed for some reason they never explained. Therefore, we sat there and waited for an hour and we finally got a go we watched horses walk round a ring I was a bit disappointed though as there was no actual jousting. At the end, we went to the souvenir shop and bought some cool things and Not happy to simply have achieved 100 points before anyone else in school, Brandon Hughes (7VR) has raced ahead, achieving the huge amount of 150 before many people have even received the 50 point certificate. Brandon is a hard-working student who shows just what you can do if you put your mind to it. We spoke to Brandon about his achievement. How does it feel to have reached 150 points before everyone? Great because they show how hard I have worked. What advice would you give to others who are looking to get more achievement points? Focus hard and don t talk during lessons. Are you aiming for 200 before the end of the year? Yes, definitely.

On Monday 8 th the Deputy Head, Mr. Gaynon decided to show the students a little clip about working together as a team.

Nemo had an idea to make all the caught fish swim at the same time. That video explained that everyone should work together as team. Mr.

Ross asked for. The previous assembly was approximately 1-2 weeks ago. Miss. Ross and 7VR did an assembly about the Festival of Vaishakhi.

7VR performed amazingly with Riyan performing gymnastics to music; first a cartwheel then a backbend onto her elbows and then flipped.

The little clip was Nemo, Dory and Martyn swimming together and then the fishermen launched a fishing net and caught other fish as well as Nemo. Nemo had an idea to make all the caught fish swim at the same time. That video explained that everyone should work together as team. Mr. Gaynon quoted a wellknown saying, There is no I in team. This assembly led us to the next lesson Drama which meaning we worked together producing the play that Miss. Ross asked for. The previous assembly was approximately 1-2 weeks ago. Miss. Ross and 7VR did an assembly about the Festival of Vaishakhi. This festival commemorates and celebrates the beginning of the Sikh religion and the forming of the Khalsa, the five beloved ones. 7VR performed amazingly with Riyan performing gymnastics to music; first a cartwheel then a backbend onto her elbows and then flipped. The history of the festival was explained by 7VR through fluent speaking and drama. It was very informative. On Friday 5 th May, an experienced Spanish Flamenco visited RFSS and shared a story about the History of Flamenco. 3 By Iwan, Olivia and Neha Last Friday, we had a professional Spanish flamenco dancer, and a professional flamenco guitar player came to RFSS. Each class has at least 40 minutes with them. They taught us one long routine, that we practiced all day. has given us various opportunities to learn about the Spanish culture. She even joined in with us, when we were dancing. The profession dancer who was called Ana garsea, and the Spanish guitar player, In assembly Mrs Morgan and taught the whole school the history of Flamenco: they use castanets, and a different type of guitar, that is lighter, thinner and less bracing. The reason we had these interesting people in to teach us some amazing dancing, is because we have the chance to go to Spain, in June In Andalusia, the south of Spain, flamenco is one of the main cultures, they are brought together and dance wherever. Our Spanish teacher Mrs Morgan, made this all happen. She is very passionate of her subject, that she teaches, and wants everyone to enjoy it. Mrs Morgan called Reginald. Wore very tradition clothing that represented flamenco. Ana wore two different dresses, with big ruffles that she would dance with. Along with a pair of heeled shoes that made her dancing stronger. Everybody loved the dancing, and some will peruse with it later on. Neha, from 7WW, exclaimed I have definitely learned something from that. Abigail Allen said that doing the dance and having the lady teach her really boosted her confidence as the lady repeatedly told everyone to be confident when dancing. On Monday, 4 Spanish teachers came here to RFSS to be interviewed. Mrs Green used 7WW to test out how good the teachers actually were.

Then, we unboxed the Raspberry Pi (where you could make a program and test it out). We kept learning facts about river sin Geography and how big waterfalls can actually get!

In the past 2 weeks I liked computing because I learned many new things and I also learned how to use a Raspberry Pi and how to play Minecraft on it.

While this year the map was focussed on space, next year s map will focus on the Royal Air Force which is a whole new challenge for us.

What I really struggled with was finding the right attachments for the challenge. Ava Kempson I found that once you figured out how the challenge worked creating the code was a lot easier.

4 In PE, RFSS have moved on from short tennis, we are playing hockey outdoors. For the past 2 weeks at RFSS, things have been twisted up a bit, out of the norm. Last week, all pupils at RFSS did some flamenco dancing on Friday with a professional dancer. In maths, we learned about pictograms and bar charts. We also learned mean, median, mode and range. On Monday, 4 Spanish teachers came here to RFSS to be interviewed. Mrs Green used 7WW to test out how good the teachers actually were. Each teacher had one period (40 minutes) to teach us about food and drinks in Spain. In computing, we learned about the internals of a laptop/computer. Then, we unboxed the Raspberry Pi (where you could make a program and test it out). We kept learning facts about river sin Geography and how big waterfalls can actually get! We watched Narnia in RE, we were asked if we could find the similarities and the differences between the film and the Christian religion. She then gave them a task, to try to find a code to complete a challenge. This is how the team found the challenges. Emily Finnegan I found the code easy because it was just going there and back. What I really struggled with was finding the right attachments for the challenge. Ava Kempson I found that once you figured out how the challenge worked creating the code was a lot easier. I mostly struggled on trying to find the right attachment to collect two plane engines. Helena Ball Each code differs from the last. I found some of them quite hard to code but some of them were easier, also building some of the attachments were quite complicated and detailed, whereas others were really simple and weren t hard at all. Abigail Faulkner I attempted doing the ramp challenge. I think that it was one of the most difficult challenges. We tried to find the right angle to go up the ramp, but we found that the ramp was too steep and it would always rock back down the ramp after attempting to drive it up. Julia Ignaczweska I did the follow a line challenge with Ava and Evie, we completed it quite quickly, we also learnt that if you code it to follow the white line it actually follows the darkest colour near to it. Charlotte Hunt I found the challenge quite hard because the angles were all going wrong on the ramp, and we would get close to the end and then the robot mind storm would roll back down the ramp and we would have to start it all over again. They all enjoyed trying out the new map for next year s challenges.

This week we interviewed Mrs Perks. What is your job here at RFSS? I am a receptionist Did you have a different job before this, if so what was it?

I came to visit on an opening evening with my daughter, I was excited by the opportunity to be part of a new school. How does RFSS compare to other schools?

What is your least favourite food? Pork because I have a swine allergy so I can t eat any meat that comes from pigs What is your favourite memory?

I used to have one of those crazy accents but I never show it at school so that I don t scare anyone. Today we interviewed a new student called Alfie Collins. Q.

I go to football training 3 times a week and have matches on Saturday. I ve never broken the law and my family loves me (I think). I moved to this school from William Parker.

My favourite film is Fast and Furious 8 and I like eating chicken for breakfast. B. Q. What is your favourite colour? A. My favourite colour is purple, which happens to be the school colours!

Yes, before here I worked in a further education college and before that I worked in industry in human resources What brought you to this school? It is very different from when I went to school but it has a great atmosphere with dedicated staff and students that are keen to learn. So I think it is great! What is your least favourite food? Each team has 4 people. These teams will compete against each other every Friday with the goal of winning the league. Furthermore the player who scores the most goals will receive the coveted Goldern Boot. We here at Rugby Free Secondary School have been privileged to be able to train in Rugby under a new coach and not just any coach but Carl Roderick who currently coaches WASPS in the junior Academy. We are lucky to have secured such a great leader for our new rugby team. We are currently training after school at 3:10 4:30 on a Wednesday and are looking to start playing matches next year. There is now an Athlectics team for Rugby Free Secondary and there first competition is on Monday 15 th May. The team consists of: Timi Olubisi, Reece Cocks, Poppy Hadlow, Charlotte Bowers, Brandon Hughes, Tom Owen, Charlie Moore, Josh Kelly, Ava Kempson, Karina Patel, Ellie Smith, Sophie Hughes and Julia Ignaczwska. We wish them luck in their upcoming event.
