1 HORSETALES december 2016

2 Many years ago, when I was the president of District One, I hosted the awards banquet dressed as Santa Claus. It had been a tough year for the district, membership was down and the theme of the banquet was If you can still believe in Santa Claus, you can still believe in District One. I was a very unique Santa Claus. I had borrowed an old Santa suit that didn t fit very well. I was young, tall and thin. I had a pillow tucked in my coat that became the running joke of the evening because it kept sliding into my pants. As bad as I was as Santa, at the end of the evening there was at least one member that could still believe in Santa Claus. While standing around talking, still wearing my Santa suit, I felt a tug on my baggy red pants. I looked down to find a small dark haired girl, with big brown eyes looking up at me who proceeded to tell me what she wanted for Christmas. Her unexpected actions touched my heart. Little did I know that she would continue to touch my heart for years to come when I married her mother and she became my daughter. Yes I still believe. I believe in the things that touch my heart: Jesus, family, friends, the NARC&SP and yes, Santa Claus. Merry Christmas Kim Race kimrace@yahoo.com
