Thank you to all who helped cook, set up and clean up. And thank you to Jean and Monique Flesher for donating the cost of the hall so that we could continue this tradition. Look for pictures in this newsletter. Independence Day July Udaleku hosted by Basque Club of Utah July Gummi Worm Day July Pioneer Day July Club Meeting Sept Club Meeting Living Traditions Festival As we have done 30 times before, the Basque Club of Utah participated in the 31 st annual Living Traditions Festival. We are the only group that has been there all 31 years! Everything went great this year. The weather cooperated with us and it was a great success. The churros were the hit of the party once again but the croquetas came in a close second. We had so many compliments on our food! There were a lot of posts on Instagram and Twitter of people loving the churros and commenting about the awesome croquetas. People even commented that the food was worth the wait. Thank you to all who helped make churro dough and croquetas, who loaded and unloaded the truck, worked at the booth and cleaned all the equipment. Thank you to Phil Archibeque for the use of his trailer and to Christ United Methodist Church for the use of their kitchen. The dancers delivered an outstanding performance on Sunday. 2 Club Member Summits Mt. Everest Basque Club of Utah member, Bryan Osoro, summited Mount Everest,in May, to complete the seven continents highest peaks series! Bryan carried a special Ikurriña (flag) with a Lauburu on the state of Utah. Zorionak, Bryan. Udaleku Udaleku is soon approaching and we will need volunteers to help daily with food preparation, service and clean up and also with chaperoning. If you would like to help out for a couple of hours at lunch or dinner or chaperone on trips, please contact Catherine at or cbarajas5@msn.com. Club Dancers Raising Money The Basque Club of Utah dancers, Utah ko Triskalariak, are raising money to fly to Washington, DC to perform at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Did you receive the flyer to purchase planters to support our dancers? Please make your purchase now so that the planters may be delivered at the picnic. Mus News Congratulations to Jean Flesher and John Cendagorta who won the club mus tournament and to Mary Flesher and Adrian Berriochoa who came in second. Jean and John will be going on to play in the NABO mus tournament in Rocklin, CA. Thank you to John and Jo-Michele Cendagorta for hosting the tournament at their home. In addition, the dancers will be having a raffle at the club picnic. Make sure to purchase tickets. Our dancers have always represented our Basque Heritage and this festival is no exception. Remember, they were the only dance group from the United States to perform at the New York Centennial Celebration in Please support our dancers with their fundraising. 2

Madison & Marissa Ulibarri,, who graduated from Judge Memorial High School Zachery Cendagorta,, who graduated from the Police Academy in April & SLCC in May with a degree in Criminal Justice. Euskera classes are in full swing! The first group has learned so much In such a short time! Join in!! A new class will be starting up in June. With longer days and more free time, there s no excuse not to learn Euskera!! Contact Sonia Annual Picnic June 26 The Basque Club of Utah will hold their annual summer picnic on June 26th at Union park in Midvale. Mass will be at noon. Great Basque Food will be available for purchase. There will also be kids games and a horseshoe tournament. More information will be in the flyer. Watch your mail. Member Participates in Showcase Basque Club of Utah member, Carina Barajas, was invited to participate in a RAW Showcase, a festival of different artists showcasing different types of art, held in Salt Lake City.
