One day in the future you could find out how important it was to hold executive positions in clubs when you are asked about your experience in these positions - President, Vice-President, Secretary, Press-Reporter or Treasurer. One example of this is for the Outstanding Senior Member Award. Part of the process in competing for this award includes being interviewed by people who will have a list of all clubs you have attended and all executive positions you have held with clubs. You may be asked questions about the positions you ve held, so they are more important than you think. Please remember to give everyone a chance at running for executive positions! Page 2 of 6

4 Press Reports Square Dancing by Katelyn Haywood Square Dancing- Meeting#1- Press Report#1 Bow to your partners, don t forget those corner gals, All join hands and away to the west. On Sunday March 1 st 2015 the first meeting of the Norfolk 4-H Square Dancing Club was called to order at 2pm in the auditorium in the auditorium of the OMAFRA building. The first meeting started off with Club assistant leader Joan was talking about Square Dancing and how we will be dancing to a four/ four beat. At this meeting there were eight members present. At this meeting elections were held for club President, vice President, Secretary and Press Reporter. Congratulations to Elizabeth LeBlanc the President, Jessica Hall the Vice president, Emma Bishop the Secretary and Katie Haywood the Press Reporter of the club. At this meeting we were taught Chase the Ladies a visiting dance. We learned how to do moves like the Promenade and the Grand Chain. After having minor technical difficulties we got to do some dancing with partners 4-H has the best way of teaching which is Learn to do by Doing and that is exactly what we did. After we danced we had our business meeting along with drinks and snacks. Our next meeting is to be held on March 8 th 2015 in the auditorium of the OMAFRA building in Simcoe from 2-4. Square Dancing- Meeting#2- Press Report#2 Now Do-Si-Do that corner gal then Do-Si-Doe your own right to your partner, grand chain. On March 8 th 2015 the second Meeting of the Norfolk Square Dancing Club called their second meeting to order at 2:00pm. This meeting started off with the lovely, ladies getting into costume. The members then practiced a short dance segment called The Grand Chain. After this the 4-H members practiced their Do-Si-Does with their partners and those corner gals. Soon after they finished their Dance moves and dances the members sat down and did some book work. The book work consisted of talking about what projects and dances will be done through the time that the club is active, and they discussed different dances that the members were interested in learning and preforming. When books were done and reports were read the members had a snack break. The 4-Her s practiced Right Hand up Left Lady Under and then the meeting was dismissed at 4. Thank your partner, thank your corner, wave to the lady across the hall. The next meeting will be March 29 th 2015, at 2pm in the OMAFRA auditorium in Simcoe. Page 4 of 6

5 More Press Reports Square Dancing by Katelyn Haywood Square Dancing-Meeting#3- Report#3 Dresses, dress shirts, black shoes and co-ordinating colours were the main focus of the third meeting of the Square dancing club that was called to order on March 29 th 2015 at 2pm. The meeting was called to order by the club s president, Elizabeth LeBlanc. The ladies got into their dresses and the gents wore their handkerchiefs, and started practicing various dances like Take Your opposite Grand Square and Chain The Ladies which learned during their previous meetings. After the 4-H members practiced their dances a few times it was time for the Meeting aspect of the club. The meeting discussed the score cards of square dancers and their partners. The Score card is out of 100points that s divided into four categories. The four categories are Comfort worth 30 points, Neatness worth 30 points, Appropriateness of the attire again worth 30 points and co-ordination making up 10 points. Every group starts off with 100 points and for every disapproval from the judges you get points deducted that is if your group doesn t meet the requirements of each category according to the judge. The roll call for this meeting was: What would you look for if you were judging square dancing costumes? This roll call was answered by all members who were present. At this meeting the members also practiced judging. The subjects that were being judged were Square dancing costumes from previous square dancing clubs. The official Reasons were given by the youth leader Alexandria hall, there were brave volunteers who give their reasons and all the members were taught how to judge properly as there will be a 4-H judging clinic, June 19 th at Sonny Side s Llama Farm at 6pm that is mandatory for all 4-H members.
