Awards will be announced at the Association Annual Meeting in March If you wish to participate in this as a club, please contact Nellie to get your pages sent to you or ask for them at your recognition night programs. - Take the camera with you to your club meetings and events over the summer. - Deadline for submission is December 31, 2012 to your area director or Nellie VandenHoven. 2 Keith McLagan Distinguished & Dedicated Leader Award What is the Keith McLagan Award? It is a long time service award for the leaders of 4-H in Perth County, who have shown dedication to youth and to 4-H Who can be nominated for this award? A leader who has lead for 5 or more years or who has retired in the last 3 years. Who can nominate? Parents, senior members or a club and leaders. WEST CENTRAL BEEF SHOW AND SALE The West Central 4-H Beef Show and Sale which has been held at OLEX (Ontario Livestock Exchange) for the last 51 years would like to hear from anyone that is intending to show this year. 3 PERTH COUNTY 4-H JUDGING COMPETITION Tuesday-July 3, 2012 Agri Complex, Stratford SCHEDULE: CLASSES: REASONS: Registration starts at 6:00 p.m. JUDGING STARTS at 6:30 p.m. Dairy **Beef** Poultry** Hay** Pillows** First Aid Kits** Quiz Dairy, Beef, Hay RULES & REGULATIONS: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! 1. The judging competition will count up to 100 points for competitive livestock, field crops, farm safety, veterinary and farm machinery club members. 2. The competition is open to 4-H members in Perth County as well as 4-H members from other counties who are unable to attend their own. **This event is a fun, learning experience in decision-making skills, and allows the 4-H members to meet other people and practice their evaluation and public speaking skills. The competition is MANDATORY for Perth County members in competitive livestock, field crop, farm safety, veterinary, crops and farm machinery clubs, but we suggest that all Perth County 4-H members attend as a 4-H personal development event. 3. If you cannot attend, you have 2 options: Option 1 A 500 word essay to be handed into your club leader, (Topic of Leaders Choice) with a maximum score of 50 points; Option 2- Take a score of 0 for not attending. Option 3 Attend a judging competition in a neighbouring County AND have your score provided to your leader. NOTE: This may affect your points for interest and participation at your leaders discretion. 4. Please bring a pencil/pen and preferably a clipboard to write on. 5. Marks will be given as follows: Placing 50 points; Reasons 50 points. Ties to be broken on reasons. 6. You may register all members of your club who will be attending, as a club rather that doing them individually (see club entry form) **BUT please make sure they will be attending and provide all required information, as it becomes a waste of cards for those who register and then don t show up. 6 This year, the National Members Conference will be held in Montreal, Quebec from September 19 23, This years' theme is communications. Visit historic Old Montreal and the Pointe-a-Calliere Museum, tour Olympic Stadium, CBC Radio Canada, the Montreal Science Centre, and more. The application deadline is May 24. A full list of Locally Submitted Projects (LSP) is now posted on 4-HOntario.ca. A total of 26 brand new projects have been added to the list of LSP s, including a Popcorn Club. Perth County Go For the Gold Tuesday July 24, 2012 Grace Lutheran Church (108 St. David St. Mitchell, around the corner from Valu-mart) Registration Rules Review Games Start 6:15 6:45pm 6:45 pm 7:00 pm Games questions based on 4-H projects, agriculture, and current events. A team consists of 4 members (plus an optional spare) and a coach To register a team contact Jean Morris at or bjmorris@quadro.net by July 10 Registration deadline: Tuesday, July 10 The winning team will compete at the Regional Competition near the end of August. The top team at the regional then competes at the Provincial competition held in November at the Royal Winter Fair. Make up a team and come out for an evening of fun and learning.
