2 Writer Spotlight Convict Journal Entry ThisweektheJournalismClubasked4Ttoprovideapieceofwriting from talented students. Miss T chose Prima s, Caityln s and Taninder s writing where they imagined themselves as a convict of thefirstfleet. Prima:& My name is Ellen Robinson and I am 11 years old. I have had a bad, disgusting life. My birthday is on October the 7 th. When I was 7 I did larceny and pickpocketing. I pick pocketed a watch and lace cloth. I wanted to only sell the gold watch until someone caught me. I lived in England on a quiet street. In 1788 I got convicted for larceny again. I got sentenced to transportation to Botany Bay. I was aboard the Prince of Wales. Life on the Prince of Wales was disgusting there were rats everywhere I went on the ship. Caitlyn:& My names is Anna Sheperd and I am 21 years old. I had a horrible life when I was young. When I was 12 years old I stole 1 handkerchief, 3 shillings and a penny. I needed them for money and for my daughter so we could buy food. I lived in England on the streets because I was poor. I was sentenced to transportation to Botany Bay for 7 years. I boarded the Lady Penrhyn, it was very stinky. The ship was hot, there were mice and cockroaches everywhere. Taninder:& My name is Fredrick Fisher and I am 30 years old. I have had a hard life. When I was 8 years old I became an orphan. So I started to steal. I stole 2 handkerchiefs and 1 ring. I was found guilty. I wanted to sell it so I can become rich and take care of my kids. I was starving. I was on board the Fishburn. There were lots of people and it smelled. Everyone was pushing, it was hard to sleep, walk and even sit. It was very hard on the ship.
