3 BS D August, 2018 Dear Parents, Once again, we have a very exciting list of after school activities planned for this fall for students in grades K-5. In this booklet, you will find all clubs listed. is available daily from through Thursday. We have tried to spread out all after-school programs evenly across the week in an effort to allow students to participate in multiple clubs throughout the week. Please select your desired choices as soon as possible, since many of the clubs have a student limit. Please also note that some clubs may be canceled if they do not meet the student minimum. The deadline for registration will be Thursday, September 20. All registration forms must be submitted to the education office (Attention Mr. Sussman). 5 5 th Grade Law Fair Fashion Design Ultimate Frisbee Tuesday Adventure Quest Art Enrichment Jr. Chorus Wednesday Guitar A Star is Born Thursday Jewelry Making Game Design MONDAY Dishin' with Dalia Mrs. Dalia Golbari Grades K - 2 Children will learn to cook and bake their favorite dishes. We will be chopping and grating vegetables, slicing and dicing fruit. Pizza, pasta, cookies and cake are just a few examples of what will be created in cooking club s Dishin' with Dalia. Fee: $120 for 10 sessions Krav Maga Swan Kids Grades K-2 Krav Maga is the world's best self-defense method; it is also insanely fun & very practical. We teach simple but incredibly effective techniques to stay safe in any urban environment. Long term benefits include: Confidence, Coordination, Core Strength, Striking Abilities, Defensive Mindset, Physical Endurance, and Situational Awareness. Fee: $190 for 10 sessions Chess Capablanca Chess Grades 1-3 Classes will be geared to beginners and intermediate players. Chess has been proven to be a useful life tool which reinforces many of the skills which students can utilize throughout their academic years and beyond. Chess will develop analytical and logical thinking, concentration and decision making skills. Furthermore students will develop their creativity and imagination as they learn about time management. Chess will be instrumental in self-motivation and self-confidence in a fun, relaxed and encouraging environment. Chess boards and pieces will be provided during class. Fee: $220 for 10 sessions

6 Fashion Trends The Hobby Quest Grades 3-5 Students use creativity while learning hand-sewing/garment design skills. They then create all new wearable garments. At the end, they may show off their designs in a runway show. Fee: $175 for 10 sessions Ultimate Frisbee TGA Premier Sports Grades 3-5 TGA Premier Sports is bringing Ultimate Frisbee back to Yavneh Academy! Our enrichment program combines athletics, academics, and life lessons to create a dynamic experience that emphasizes safety, fitness, and fun. Certified coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of throwing, catching, and marking while using the sport to teach valuable life lessons including perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship. TGA s mission is to empower students with the tools to be successful within a team and in life. (TGA provides all necessary equipment.) Fee: $170 for 10 sessions Law for Young Citizens Mrs. Cheryl Frankel Grades 4-5 (Yearlong course) Students create a legal scenario, which is entered in the New Jersey Law Fair competition, sponsored by the Bar Foundation. In the second semester the participants will re-write the scenario for presentation in a mock trial format. They will assume roles as attorneys and witnesses and present the case to a jury of their peers. Fee: $100 for the full year Mr. Moshe Sanders, Ms. Rebecca Stein, Morah Naomi Weinberger Grades 1-5 Students will be assisted with assignments, work, and organizational skills in both general and Judaic Studies. Please note: This club will run on all days that Middle School has a 4:40 dismissal; even after other clubs are completed for the year. HW Club begins on Wednesday, September 5. Fee: $200 for the semester ($750 for through Thursday)

7 Cheerleading Grades K-2 Coach Lauren Greene TUESDAY Back by popular demand for another season! Under the guidance of our very own AACCA certified coach Coach Lauren Greene, girls will have a chance to bring out the best in themselves and their teammates. Cheerleading is a sport combined with the arts. We will warm up and work on beginner tumbles and cheers, basic combinations and dance routines. No gymnastics experience is necessary. We will boost our confidence, sharpen our teamwork skills and above all have fun! Please wear comfortable gym clothes that fit well- a tee shirt, sweatpants, dance pants or leggings and sneakers. Please bring a water bottle. Fee: $150 for 10 sessions Note: This club always fills up VERY quickly! CMEK Basketball Grades K-3 The CMEK Coaches teach the fundamentals of basketball through cutting edge skills training techniques. The program includes a comprehensive introduction to basketball through various drills and games. Players will become dribbling machines, pass to teammates, and shoot for the stars, in this fun-filled, action-packed program. Students will be broken up into groups by age and skill level. Fee: $275 for 10 sessions Adventure Quest Team Makers Grades 3-5 Children go on a quest to play a series of fun and exciting games that require them to use their imagination and thinking skills. They will learn to blend both their cooperation and leadership abilities in order to finish the games. Some of the games include giant mazes with each child taking turns leading the ball through the labyrinth, others require the group to build large structures using giant legos or foam blocks and then performing activities that in- clude their use. In yet another game, the children will construct a large integrated walkway and then navigate it as a group without touching each other. While they think they are just having fun, the reality is that they are developing leadership and socialization skills that will last a lifetime. Fee: $160 for 10 sessions

8 Art Enrichment The Paint Box Grades 3-5 The Paint Box is a newly established School for the Arts which focuses on a series of creative and progressive courses in a variety of subjects and media. Each class puts a contemporary spin on intensive art-making experiences. Hands-on exploration of materials is balanced by Art History- and an introduction to important artists, both historical and current. Judy Cohen the main instructor and founder of The Paint Box has been studying and working in the Arts for over 20 years. She is presently the Art and Design Director for Ralph Lauren, and has spent over 17 years working side by side with Mr. Lauren. She ran the Art Night at Yavneh last year. Her designs and illustrations have been featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Exhibits, Red Carpet events for over 50 celebrities, in books, movies, and store windows. She believes that exposing children to the arts early on impacts them in only positive ways. She uses only the finest art materials to inspire her students to explore their creativity, while gaining valuable STEAM education. The program she will be running at Yavneh is called "Welcome to the Greats". She will introduce a new artist (current and historical) and their body of work. The students will create and finish a piece of work every week based on that artist's technique or a particular style. Fee: $300 for 10 sessions (materials are included in the price) Junior Chorus Mrs. Marsha Motzen Grades 4-5 The Yavneh Junior Chorus is one of our two acclaimed performing choirs. Membership is open to fourth and fifth graders who love to sing, and would like the experience and enjoyment of learning songs in parts and performing in front of an audience. The chorus performs at various events throughout the year, both in and out of school. Performances usually revolve around holidays, but occasionally special events come up. Once again, we will be featured at the New Jersey Devils Jewish Heritage Night, which will be on night, December 3. Students signing up for Junior Chorus will be expected to remain the ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR, which concludes with the annual Inter -School Spring Concert. Occasionally, Junior Chorus will rehearse on days when early dismissals occur. There will be a MANDATORY rehearsal on November 6, Election Day, from 9:30-1:30. Junior Chorus is strictly limited to 35 students. Please note that Jr. Chorus dismisses at 4:40, which is 15 minutes after all other clubs. IMPORTANT: Jr. Chorus will meet on the first 2 Thursdays of school, September 6 and 13, and then move to Tuesdays beginning on October 9. Students will be permitted to sign up for chorus on a trial basis, with the fee refundable until the third rehearsal. There will be no refunds after the third rehearsal. Fee: $60, which will cover admission to the Devils game. Fee is only $50 for returning students who have their shirt from last year.

9 Ms. Adina Rudin, Mr. Moshe Sanders, Ms. Rebecca Stein Grades 1-5 Students will be assisted with assignments, work, and organizational skills in both general and Judaic Studies. Please note: This club will run on all days that Middle School has a 4:40 dismissal; even after other clubs are completed for the year. HW Club begins on Wednesday, September 5. Fee: $200 for the semester ($750 for through Thursday) Kidstruction Zone Team Makers Grades K-2 WEDNESDAY Building with different materials and then getting to knock it all down in creative ways is the benchmark of this program. Working together the children build massive structures using giant foam blocks one week, foam tiles, another, giant buckets, bricks, and maze walkways are all other weekly adventures. The class needs use logic, strategy, and planning to create the various designs in each week's challenge. Then using other materials the children get to learn how to de-construct their design and possibly rebuild it in a different format elsewhere in the classroom. Fee: $160 for 10 sessions Yoga Mrs. Andrea Portal Grades K-2 Yoga empowers children to develop greater confidence, self esteem and physical awareness which are skills to use in all aspects of their lives. This yoga class will combine games, stories, songs, yoga poses in a fun playful environment. Fee: $100 for 10 sessions A Star is Born! Envision Theatre Grades 3-5 From feather boas to sparkly tiaras - you child will gain the confidence and skills required to take the spotlight and be a star. Students will work collaboratively to perform in a Broadway musical revue, where each child has a star turn as a featured performer and master of ceremonies. Fee: $200 for 10 sessions

10 Guitar Ben Hyman Music Grades 3-5 The course will cover the following topics: 1) Reading Chord Diagrams 2) Proper right and left hand technique 3) Proper strumming technique 4) Basic tab reading (not standard notation. We generally introduce that later) 5) Basics of switching chords 6) Intro to Power Chords 7) Playing in time 8) Intro to the 2 main time signatures in pop music, 4/4 (90+% of all pop music) and 6/8 9) How to play along with other musicians 10) Exposure to various genres of music outside of modern top 40 (Motown, 60 s, classic rock, 80 s and 90 s pop, etc ). It s important for any child studying music to know the history of where music has evolved from. ***Students should own their own guitar to bring to class and practice at home with it during the week. *** Upon completion of the course, anyone wishing to continue lessons privately through this agency will receive 10% off of their first block of music lessons. Fee: $280 for 10 sessions (Please note, this course has a student minimum of 5 and maximum of 7) Mr. Moshe Sanders, Ms. Rebecca Stein, Morah Meira Zharnest Grades 1-5 Students will be assisted with assignments, work, and organizational skills in both general and Judaic Studies. Kids learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using LEGO bricks. They learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. They explore mechanical engineering as they build boats and vehicles. That s not all, from carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges; your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills. 12 Jewelry Making Mrs. Galit Benbenisti Grades 1-5 Learn to design jewelry with quality materials and how to create your own unique line of jewelry. Students will learn a variety of techniques including beading, macramé, basic metal work, wire wrapping, and more! Lessons will build on each other each week, allowing for a progressive and a fun class that your child s jewelry box will be with unique and special pieces. We will make: Necklace with one chain or more, bracelets, rings, earrings, and more. Come and learn from professional designer that has many years of experience in the industry Fee: $245 for 10 sessions (materials are included in the price) Game Design with Kodu Code Advantage Grades 3-5 Kids bring their imaginations to life with Kodu! A visual programming language that helps your child develop critical skills of storytelling, creativity, and problem solving. Kids create unique and personalized games all while learning the fundamentals of programming. A great introduction to coding!
