3 Hiroshima Anniversary 6th August 2005 is the 60th anniversary of Hiroshima. On 6th August 1945 the USA bombed Japan. World War 2 had nearly ended. A U.S. plane dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima 140 thousand people died. Atomic bombs release radiation. More people died from radiation poisoning. Most of the city was destroyed. 4 Hiroshima Anniversary 3 days later the U.S. bombed Nagasaki. About 80 thousand people died. On 14th August 1945 Japan surrendered. Hiroshima is now an international place of peace. Many countries have atomic bombs. Radiation from atomic bombs last for years. Many people want atomic bombs banned. September 05 Page 4

5 Astronomers discover 10th planet American astronomers have discovered a new planet. It is bigger than Pluto. The planet is named '2003 UB 313' The planet is ice and rock. It is three times as far away as Pluto. There are now 10 planets orbiting the sun. September 05 Page 5

6 5 London Bomb Suspects Arrested Police have arrested the London bomb suspects that were involved in a second attack on the city. Armed police arrested them. One man was arrested on Wednesday 27th July. 2 men were arrested on Friday 29th July. A fourth man was arrested in Rome. September 05 Page 6

7 5 London Bomb Suspects Arrested Police arrested a fifth man. Two women were also arrested. The terrorists tried to bomb the London underground. A bus was also attacked. The bombs didn't explode. Police say there is a threat of more attacks. September 05 Page 7

8 London bomb suspects in court Four men have been in court in London. They are accused of attempted murder. They are accused of the failed bomb attacks on July 21st. The next court date is in November. They will stay in prison until November. There is another bomb suspect. Police arrested him in Italy. He is still in Italy. He might be sent back to England. 9 Supplies arrives in Niger Lots of supplies are arriving in Niger. Niger is in West Africa. It is a very poor country. Drought and insects ruined Niger's crops. Many children are very ill. They cannot go to school or hospital. Many children die before 5 years old. There is no food. Lots of people have died. September 05 Page 9

10 I.R.A stops violence The I.R.A announced an end to violent campaign. A statement said it will stop using weapons. The I.R.A want the British to leave Northern Ireland. The I.R.A campaigned using violence during 30 years. The group didn't say it will split up. Instead the I.R.A will campaign politically. September 05 Page 10

11 USA signs climate agreement The USA has signed a climate change agreement. Five other countries signed the agreement. China, Australia, India, and South Korea signed. The countries agree their pollution restrictions. Some people think the agreement will not work. There is another climate change agreement. It is an international pollution agreement. America and Australia didn't sign it. A quarter of the world's carbon dioxide gases are from America. September 05 Page 11

12 Israeli army move Jewish community The Israeli army are moving a Jewish community. The army is clearing an area in Israel. The area will be given to Palestinians Israelis have left their homes. There have been many protests. The army needed to carry some people away. This is the first of two areas being cleared. People will soon be moved from the second area. 13 Spanglish This is a comedy film. The Clusky family need a nanny. Flor needs a job and decides to work for them. Flor isa single mum. The Cluskys only speak English and Flor only speaks Spanish. There are some very funny scenes in this film. It was funny watching the Cluskys and Flor try to communicate. The film has a 12A certificate. September 05 Page 13

14 Millions This is a comedy film. Two brothers, Damien and Anthony find a lot of money. Thieves had stolen the money from a bank. Damien and Anthony had different ideas on how to spend the money. Damien wanted to help the poor with it. Anthony wanted to buy nice things with it. A thief came back to find the money but the brothers had hidden it. It was a good film. 15 Raising Arizona Raising Arizona is about an armed robber. He is released from prison and marries a police woman. The couple cannot have or adopt a baby. The husband wants to make his wife happy. The husband decides to steal a baby. He steals a baby from a rich family. The family hire a man to find the baby. This film is very funny and bizzare. Raising Arizona has a 12 film certificate. 16 Ray This is a drama film and true story. The film is about the life of Ray Charles. He was an American musical legend. Ray had a hard childhood. He became blind when he was seven years old. 24 Disability Sports England Championships from Mark On Friday the 1st of July at 6:30 pm, I got picked up from home with my disability sports co-ordinators Steve and Derek, and two of my friends Chris and Elliot. We were going to compete in the Disability Sports England Championships at Blackpool's Stanley Park. We arrived at the Hilton Hotel on the North Promenade in Blackpool at approximately 7:30 pm. We had to get Chris' bed highered up so his hoist could fit under the bed. By the time we got Chris' bed sorted and got up to the dining room, we had missed the buffet. The buffet was laid on for all the competitors staying in the hotel September 05 Page 25

26 Disability Sports England Championships from Mark We had a left over meal that had been plated up, but not ordered. That was duck pate with salad and an onion sauce, and ice cream for a sweet. It was approximately 9-30 when we finished our dinner and got back to our rooms. It was pm when Steve and Derek got Chris in bed and sorted for the night. September 05 Page 26

27 Disability Sports England Championships from Mark In the morning when we were ready we went up to the dining room for our breakfast. I had a big bowl of fruit with a glass of apple juice. You could have sausage, fried eggs, bacon, wheetabix, rice crispies, muesli, anything you wanted they had. There was apple juice, orange juice, and pineapple juice, tea, coffee, the lot, it was great. The service from the waiters and all the staff were great. September 05 Page 27

We got what we thought we needed for the day at the games and went to the car park and got in the bus. We went to Stanley Park to compete. Elliot was going to compete in the under 15's shotput.
