1 Ma THE DAZZLER 143 Chester, Trinity and Leigh lead the three divisions with 100 per cent s Didsbury go second as Appleton and Oakmere suffer second losses Cheshire off the mark for 2016 Holders fall at first hurdle in KO Cup CHESHIRE WOMEN S LEAGUE Division One May 22: Chester Boughton Hall (32; Lorna Starkey 79*, Maeve Sparks 26*) (25pts) Ashton-on-Mersey 86-7 (32; Mina Khatun 21, Annette Axon 2-15) (4pts) (Restricted to 32 overs per side) Still no stopping Chester at the top of the table, and on this occasion they did not lose a wicket as Lorna Starkey s prolific season continued. Appleton 72-9 (25; Annie Rashid 16, Charlotte Campion 3-10, Hannah Jones 2-3, Amna Malik 2-8) (5pts) Didsbury 76-2 (20; Lauren Smith 43) (25pts) (Restricted to 25 overs per side) Champions Appleton slipped to their second successive defeat as an impressive all round display from Didsbury saw them comfortably take the points Division Two May 22: Oxton (25pts) w/o Astley Bridge (minus 10pts) Hawarden Park v Wistaston Village Cancelled due to unfit ground, 8pts each Division One / Two Cross Divisional Matches May 22: Stockport Trinity 99-5 (38; Hannah Gradwell 31, Jane Tarpey 3-19) (25pts) Oakmere 69 (28.1; Tarpey 21, Katy Hart 3-23, Olivia Smith 2-9) (4pts) (Restricted to 38 overs per side) Trinity also remain unbeaten at the head of division two, while 2015 runners up Oakmere went down to their second first division defeat, and are another team forced to play catch up if they are to remain in title contention. Hannah Gradwell made her return to cricket after more than two years, and not only did she make the top score in the match, but her innings was almost exactly equal to the winning margin. She went on to claim four wicketkeeping victims. Division Three May 15: Northop Hall 81-3 (20; Thea Murray-Williams 32*) (7pts) Leigh 84-2 (12.4; Nicola Deane 51*) (25pts) Northop Hall made a solid total, but Leigh eclipsed it by scoring at almost seven per over in reply. Lymm Oughtrington Park 48-7 (20; Kerry Knight 13, Beth Garnett 2-1) (2pts) Stockport Georgians 49-2 (5.5, Nicole Tunney 18ret) (25pts) A decisive winning start for league newcomers Stockport Georgians (Both Stockport Georgians wickets were retired out, so Lymm do not receive bowling points) May 22: Leigh 72-3 (20; Nicky Deane 33, Becky Baldock 20) (25pts) Didsbury 2 nd XI 54-6 (20; Deana Pickles 24, Emma Capper 3-13, Isabelle Blamires 2-6) (5pts) Didsbury launched the league s first ever second team by staging a double header at the Didsbury Sports Ground. In this early morning match, Leigh s good start to the season continued. Becky Baldock became the first player in league history to play two league matches on the same day, as she made this appearance as a loan player before making the short journey to play for parent club Ashton-on-Mersey in the afternoon.
2 As reported in the last Dazzler, Sophie Ecclestone made 133 not out for Chester Boughton Hall versus Appleton on May 8. She achieved the feat a few days after her 17 th birthday, and she certainly becomes the youngest player in league history to score more than 130. The five highest innings in league history are listed below, these include scores of 150 or above made by Jenny Halstead and Hannah Gradwell at the age of 18. Her score was made off just 92 deliveries with four sixes and 18 fours. Chester s score of 191 in 40 overs was achieved after being reduced to 9-3 after eight overs. This means that the scoring rate was in excess of five and a half per over thereafter. Ecclestone and Molli Coleman added 55 unbroken for the ninth wicket However, Sophie is not the youngest centurion the league has seen, this honour goes to another Chester player, Vicky Latham, who was 16 years old when she scored 102 not out versus Hyde in Other teenage centurions in the league have included Nalisha Patel, Ellie Barker, Bhumika Doshi, Lydia Slack and Natalie Heap. Hannah Gradwell reached three figures twice in senior cricket during her teenage years. Player Score Team Versus Year Division Jenny Halstead 191* Poynton Appleton Overall league Hannah Gradwell 155 Stockport Trinity Stalybridge St Paul s Division 2 Vicki Dean 141 Bolton Bredbury St Indians Mark s Ali Cutler 137* Chester BH Romiley & Division 1 Sophie Ecclestone Dinting 133* Chester BH Appleton Despite her Oakmere side losing by one run at Didsbury on May 8, Jane Tarpey repeated the figures of one wicket for two runs from a full allocation of eight overs that was achieved by Didsbury s Lauren Smith the week before. Once again we have a new venue for the League XI fixture against the MCC. We will be delighted to welcome the MCC to Ashton-on-Mersey on Wednesday August 31. Dual player registrations: Bhumika Doshi to play League cricket for Astley Bridge and T20 competitions for Didsbury Player loans authorised: Ffion Wynne Hawarden Park to Northop Hall, Becky Baldock Ashton-on-Mersey to Leigh, Olivia Bailey Stockport Trinity to Stockport Georgians T20 DIVISIONAL COMPETITION Western Division May 17: Oakmere Kats (20; Raffaella Rodighiero 27ret, Natalie Lyons 25ret, Sarah Worsdale 21) Oxton 43-6 (20; Megan Cureton 15) A winning start for Oakmere as they start their campaign in the one competition they are still to win KNOCKOUT CUPS Knockout Cup Round One May 9: Ashton-on-Mersey (20; Mary Priestner 26ret, C Hawes 25ret) Bredbury Saints 80-6 (20; Abigail Barlow 27 ret, Sinead Murphy 4-3) Ashton-on-Mersey s run rate of closer to seven runs per over than six proved just too steep for Bredbury, despite another promising innings from Abigail Barlow. Sinead Murphy s bowling figures may take some beating in this year s T20 competitions. May 13: Chester Boughton Hall Deemons 80-7 (20; Ali Cutler 21, Hannah Thornhill 2-13, Abbie Adams 2-15) Wistaston Swans 84-2 (19.3; Laura Newton 25ret, Hannah Bratt 25ret, Sammi Short 2-13) After winning six of the past nine Knockout Cups, and being defeated finalists twice, this was the first occasion Chester had fallen at the first hurdle in this competition. Wistaston won in the final over to go through.
3 After the completion of the two round one matches, the line up for the remainder of the competition is as follows: Quarter Finals: Ashton-on-Mersey v Wistaston Swans (provisionally Thursday June 16) Didsbury Swordettes v Appleton Tigers (Friday June 17) Hawarden Park v Oxton (Monday June 13) Oakmere Kats v Stockport Trinity Fire (Monday June 13) Semi Finals: Winner 1 v Winner 2 (Thursday July 21/ Friday July 22) Winner 3 v Winner 4 (Monday July 18 / Tuesday July 19) CHESHIRE SENIORS Royal London Women s One Day Championship Division Three May 15: Cheshire (50; Lauren O Reilly 57, Zehmarad Afzal 56*, Sarah McCann 24, Bethan Cornell 2-14, Megan Burt 2-30) (17pts) Norfolk (50; Emily Woodhouse 35, Rachel Chettleburgh 23, Bethany Harmer 20, O Reilly 3-12, Sami Fowler 3-23, Sophie Connor 2-24) (4pts) An excellent all round performance from Lauren O Reilly led the way to Cheshire s first win of the season. She first added 109 for the sixth wicket with Zehmarad Afzal, the former Pakistan international who was making her first appearance for Cheshire since 2006, after Cheshire had been reduced to O Reilly then also took three wickets during Norfolk s collapse from 73-2 to 83-7 that changed the nature of the match. Cheshire: Sarah McCann (captain), Ellie Barker, Sami Fowler, Katie Haszeldine, Zehmarad Afzal, Charlotte Williams, Sammi Short, Sophie Connor, Megan Cureton, Natalie Lyons, Lauren O Reilly Debut for Cheshire: Cureton CHESHIRE JUNIOR GIRLS TEAMS Women's Under 15 County Championship A Division Group 1 May 5: Nottinghamshire 109 (Hattie Roberts 3-4, Hope Anderson 3-11) Cheshire 61 (21) May 12: A good all round bowling performance from Cheshire was not followed up with the bat and Notts won by a comfortable margin. Nottinghamshire 72 (20.3; Poppy Beardsell 3-8, Becky Jones 2-19, Hattie Roberts 2-21) Cheshire 74-9 (24.3; Beardsell 29*) Revenge was gained just one week later however, with Poppy Beardsell at the crease to finish a nerve racking run chase, having also been the star bowler earlier OTHER NEWS The PCA Masters XI are scheduled to make two appearances on Cheshire club grounds this season, following their successful visit to Timperley in They have agreed to send a strong squad to Bramhall on Tuesday June 17 for a 1630 start before an all-ticket crowd. Anyone interested in tickets should contact the club chairman Ian Milligan on ianmilligan62@tiscali.co.uk. The PCA, who normally include former top-line Test and county stars, are also due to play at Hyde on Thursday August 19. You can now book a corporate table or purchase a general admission ticket for the match at Hyde. Cricket Scotland wish to enquire whether there are any players either representing a senior county team at present, or on the verge of representing their county team, who were born in Scotland and would be interested in playing for the Scottish national team. Scotland competes in Division 3 of the English County Championships in both the one day and T20 formats, but they are not seeking to take any players away from the counties they currently represent. Instead they are seeking potential new recruits for international competitions. Their fixtures during the summer of 2016 include three one day games against the Netherlands, the winner of which will go forward to the 2017 World Cup Global Qualifier. Anyone wishing to discuss this further is invited to contact Scotland s coach, Steven Knox, via / info@stkcricket.com.
4 Macclesfield Cricket Club are hosting an Under 8 boys cricket tournament on Sunday July 3 and are interested in adding under 10 girls teams to the tournament line up. Interested parties should contact Jessica Lewis, the Development and Coaching Officer- Women and Girls at the Cheshire Cricket Board via / jessicalewis@live.co.uk. Teams will comprise six players, however if your club only has three or four available players, Jessica can put you in touch with other clubs who may be able to provide additional players. Those of you considering buying tickets for Lancashire Thunder matches in the Women s Super League should note that Sarah Taylor may not be playing for this team, as was previously announced. The England wicketkeeper is taking an indefinite break from the game for personal reasons. Further updates will be posted when available.
