This consistent income provides good stability for the club, with a big push for a wider income pool in the next period. Bar Sales was by far the biggest income contributor. Fees, Major Function and Sponsorship were the other major contributions.
Expenses were $72, for the financial period ending 30 June 2018, compared to $84, for the previous period. Reduction in expenses from the previous period caused primarily because of reduced facilities costs. Extensive works were done to the square during the previous year which was not required this year. Bar sales were the biggest expense for the financial year, which is to be expected given this is also our largest revenue stream. Player Costs, TDCA Affiliation Fees and Presentation Night costs were the other largest expenses. Closing balance for the financial year was $5, Monies still owing include Badminton Club for electricity, Traralgon West for Blair Turnbull Cup, Some player payments still owing and Aussie Broadband. Motion: The financial report presented for the 2017/18 financial year be accepted as true and correct. Moved: Seconded: Ryley Reid Result: Motion carried unanimously
PRESIDENTS REPORT Thanks to and Jason Sumner for their first year in the roles of and Treasurer respectively. Mentioned the work Jason Sumner has recently completed swapping us over to Red Energy, which will save us a considerable amount of money, and the work has done since the invalid AGM to ensure CATS are meeting all of the consumer affairs requirements. Thanks to Rudi for his continued efforts over the past season as Vice. Whatever is required for the club, Rudi is always the first to do it and this needs to be recognised. Welcomed our present life members tonight, including newest life member Paul Veitch. On the field, A Grade had a much-improved season making finals for the first time in a number of years. Ultimately, we were a few runs short in the final at Glengarry, but it was a fantastic performance B grade did really well to get 3 rd again. Played in one of the best B grade finals many people have ever seen, falling a handful of runs short to Churchill. C Grade showed improvement this year again with a good mix of juniors, women and veterans. Always hard for the captain in C Grade, thanks to Dale Fleming for his efforts throughout the year. Thanks to step in captains and all C grade players. Thanks to Tony Harrup for looking after juniors for 11 years. Taken from nothing to now being in a strong position with all 4 grades. U16s merged with Imps but 10 of those players were our own, and the team almost won the grand final. We have also had a strong progression of juniors into senior cricket over the past year with Nathan Harrup playing A Grade and Chase Wilkerson and Colby Schmidt in B Grade regularly. First year for the womens side in 2017/18. Very proud of the girls, didn t play as much cricket as everyone would have liked due to the competition structure. Thanks Ryley Reid for being inaugural captain and coach sometimes. The girls all had a ball playing and want to come back next season. Bridie Kimpton has been picked in Victoria Under 18 side. 26 girls across the year, core of 5, meant lots of people took the opportunity to play womens cricket. Only 1 game short of making the grand final in the first year is a great achievement.
Facilities - $500k from the government to council to extend clubrooms and include new changerooms and toilets. Due to start construction in Sept-Oct. Finished Jan-Feb. Hopefully get to use them at end of the season. Thanks to sponsors, old and new. Tyrepower Sale as Major Sponsor. Thanked long term sponsors (Pete and Ricks, Mannys Market, VB & Co, DNB). Thanks to international players. Adam Nunn played for a second year. Suffered from a side strain but picked up the slack, making 86 in the final v Glengarry. Thanks for his 2 years at the club. Thanks to Tinashe Panyangara for playing for the year. Got a buzz around the league and club. Lifted people to a new level and prepared some people to make the next step. His work with the juniors led to significant improvement. Colby attributes his success to Tinashe. Tinashe s visa application has been submitted, for a 5-year visa. Awaiting the immigration department to reply. Needs to be done by end of August. Callum will not be playing at the club this season due to family commitments and a new baby, he will return after this year for a further 2 years. MEMBER FEES URGENT BUSINESS Thanks to all the players for their work throughout the season. Motion: To allow the general committee to decide on the amounts for playing fees at a later date once affiliation fees have been set. Moved: Seconded: Jason Motta Result: Motion carried unanimously. SPONSORSHIP Ryley Reid distributed sponsorship packages around the room for members to comment on. Ryley has been working behind the scenes over the past month with the intent to take on the role of Sponsorship Co-ordinator. Ryley expressed her enthusiasm for the role and is excited to deliver a good outcome for the club. Michael Bloomfield noted that he did not receive an invoice for sponsorship during the 2017/18 season. DECISION TO JOIN THE LATROBE VALLE CRICKET ASSOCIATION (LVCA)
William Miller addressed the room, wanting to see the feel towards the move to the LVCA. The entirety of the playing group and executive expressed their support for the move, two past players from the floor voiced objections to the move. Bill asked whether what had been voted for at the special general meeting was indeed what was happening now and expressed that his interpretation was that the vote was on a merger between the Traralgon and District and Central Gippsland Cricket Association. repeated the motion voted on for CATS to join the LVCA with teams from the CGCA and some teams from the TDCA. Bill reiterated that his recollection of the vote was different and in his opinion is what was voted on is not what was happening now. Peter Black voiced his discontent at the move and accused the current executive of trying to sneak this vote through without informing all parties. Peter raised all the hard work done by himself and others to get the club to a strong position in years previous and now believes the club will be ruined by this move. addressed the claims that people were not adequately informed. s were sent to members, alerts were sent through social media, notices were placed in the clubroom and the wider cricketing community was made aware. A poll of those in the room indicated all bar Peter Black and one other were aware of the vote taking place. Tom Miller questioned whether another vote was required to be held regarding the move. informed him that the process for the vote was completed as required under our constitution and that the vote was binding and would not be re-held. Cameron McDonald queried William and Tom Miller over their reluctance to join the LVCA and asked for a reason for their position. William Miller expressed his fears for junior cricket under the LVCA and the possibility of losing kids to other teams in town., largely due to potential travel requirements of juniors in thelvca. Considerable discussion was held on the topic, with, Craig McDonald and Cameron McDonald voicing the opinion that reduced numbers in junior sport is not isolated to cricket, citing the requirement of Traralgon and Sale footy clubs to field an amalgamated fourths team. Craig McDonald noted the successful partnership with Imperials in the under 16s over the last 2 seasons.
Cameron McDonald noted the potential opportunity for talented junior cricketers to join the Peter Siddle squad in the LVCA. Steve Kay, incumbent of the TDCA, outlined his plan for the juniors in the TDCA, spoke of previous failings of the junior program and the plans and people who he hopes will rectify the state of the TDCA junior program. Steve also mentioned previous discussions with and Michael Chapman regarding CATS decision to join the LVCA and the reasons behind it. He reiterated that solving the imbalance at the top of the TDCA and governing the game for the benefit of all clubs are 2 key points the new executive plan to address. expressed clearly that CATS decision to join the LVCA was not made because of any failings of the previous TDCA administration. The LVCA model allows people of all ages and abilities to play cricket at a level which they can enjoy. We want as many people playing cricket out of CATS. More people can play cricket at the level that suits them. Jeeralang Boolara and N have been able to drop back into lower grades and build the club back up. This opportunity to positively shape cricket in the Latrobe Valley is why he joined the board of the LVCA. There was general agreement from the majority of the room that an even competition with a greater number of sides had more potential to draw junior s players back to cricket rather than potential travel times pushing them away. OPERATION OF THE LATROBE VALLE CRICKET ASSOCIATION (LVCA) revealed the following about the operation and playing conditions of the LVCA: The A Grade competition comprises of two divisions, Premier A Grade and A Grade, each with 6 teams. Each team will be placed into the appropriate division based on their record from the 2016/17 season. CATS are in the top division. The team who finishes last in the premier division will be relegated, with the winner of the second division being promoted. Clubs will play each team in their division in a one dayer, two dayer and T20. Player points system has been adjusted to make it fairer to smaller clubs, including CATS. One major change is that all current players
will be worth 1 point as teams transition to the new league. The limit on the number of international players has also been lifted. The B Grade competition comprises of two divisions, Premier B grade and B grade, each with 8 teams. A draft allotment of teams has been released by the LVCA Board with comments requested. CATS have been placed in the Premier Division at this stage. Format for the competition has not yet been decided on. C Grade will have a conference system implemented, likely to be east and west. This will help to reduce travel times and make playing C Grade more appealing. Once team nominations have been received, the conferences will be decided. Format for the competition will depend on the amount of teams entered. Under 12s and Under 14s will be a conference system the same as C Grade. Under 16s will likely be a single division due to the reduced number of teams compared to Under 14s and 16s. Formats and day of play are yet to be decided for juniors, with a sub-committee expected to be formed imminently. CATS will also attempt to run an under 10s and Milo Cricket program again this season after it s success this season. Victorian Country Cricket League has accepted a nomination form from the LVCA, which will be voted on at their AGM in the first week of August. If accepted, it is expected the league would be placed into Region 7 and the process for official transfer to the LVCA can begin. Kookaburra have signed on as a sponsor for the league, which will use Kookaburra balls. The approximate value of the sponsorship is $13,000. Clubs will have the option to buy into a $25,000 Fighting Fund identical to that previously run by the CGCA. This provides the opportunity for clubs to seek interest free loans for emergencies if required. Affiliation fees estimated to be around $1,200 per club in the LVCA, down from over $5,000 last season under the TDCA.
Major sponsorship is currently being sought by the LVCA Board. Multi season deals worth $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000 are being discussed. This would help to reduce costs for all players and clubs and is a result of the greater numbers and exposure the LVCA offers. finished by reiterating his commitment to bettering CATS and cricket as a whole. Reminder that he is a volunteer and does not get paid despite the number of hours involved at both club and league level and is appreciative of all others who similarly donate their time and effort. MEETING CLOSED: 9:45 PM Tom Miller asked what would happen if the VCCL rejected the application and the new league was not affiliated. confirmed that should this happen, CATS will remain in the TDCA. Steve Kay spoke regarding potential classes for grounds for Centrals and Traralgon West in C Grade and Juniors on Jack Maskrey Oval. Steve Kay was of the opinion that the TDCA had open access to this ground. Michael Chapman responded that the grounds were council grounds and as such the TDCA did not have exclusive use. It was noted by Steve Kay that this is not an issue for CATS with two dedicated grounds Bill Miller raised the opportunity for junior cricket to return to Friday night/saturday morning fixturing and the benefits this may bring to junior player retention. confirmed this is being considered by the LVCA and junior formats, including the days of play, will be released in the near future.
