2 COLD STORAGE HOLDINGS OF FISH - JANUARY ALL FISH Stocks of all frozen fish in Canada amounted to 44,075,000 lb. on January ]., 1952, of which 42,119,000 lb. were frozen fresh and 1,956,000 lb. frozen smoked. In these figures estimates of 905,000 lb. frozen fresh and 130,000 lb. frozen smoked are included for firms failing to report on time. These holdings are lower by 6,312,000 lb. frozen fresh, and by 257,000 lb. frozen smoked than those at December 1, Compared with January 1, 1951, figures they are lower by 2,463,000 lb. frozen fresh and 768,000 lb. frozen smoked. There was an "outof storage movement for all classifications of 6.6 million pounds as compared with a similar movement of 7.7 million pounds during December, SEA FISH - COD Stocks of frozen cod, not including estimates for late firms, were ,000 lb., consisting of 3, lb. frozen fresh and 933,000 lb. frozen smoked. The apparent net decrease during December was 2.3 million lb. as compared with a similar movement of 2,3 million lb. during December, The quantity reported as having been frozen during December was 1,255,000 lb., but no estimate is made for firms failing to report on time. HADDOCK Stocks of frozen haddock, not including estimates for late firms, totalled 1,473,000 lb, of which 1,276,000 lb. were frozen fresh and 197,000 lb. frozen smoked. Haddock holdings were 83,000 lb. higher than the stocks on hand last year, but 187,000 lb. lower than last month. There were 435,000 lb. reported as having been frozen during December, SALMON Frozen Balmon stocks at January 1 were 12,535,000 lb. without estimating for late firms, as compared with 12,066,000 lb. last year and 14,230,000 lb. last month. The apparent net decrease during December was 1.7 million pounds as compared with a similar movement of 2.4 million pounds during the same month of Freezings during December were 2,000 lb. SEA HERRING Frozen stocks of herring, including kippers, were reported as being 7,819,000 lb. of which 7,243,000 lb. were fresh and 576,000 smoked. Last year at the same date the combined figure was 10,838,000 lb. This month's figures show an increase of 1.7 million pounds over last month's stocks. The quantity frozen during December was 1,931,000 lb. OTHER SEA FISH Other frozen stocks amounted to 13,158,000 lb., being reported as frozen fresh, 13,052,000 lb, and frozen smoked, 106,000 lb. All other sea fish reported as having been frozen during December totalled 2,036,000 lb. INLAND FISH There were on hand 3,941,000 lb. of inland fish frozen fresh and lb. frozen smoked. There were 70,000 lb. of inland fish frozen during the month of Decenber,1951.
