This time we be changing to Tulsa time. Wing Ding is upon us and it s time to kick back and enjoy it. We have about 40 people signed up and ready to do it. As usual there will be something for everyone. Buzzy Bear finished her training stint with the Blue Angels and has made it back in time to compete in the chapter mascot contest. As for the rest of us, let s go and cheer on our favorite entries and do a thorough check of the safety chrome. Remember- Everyone can t be a hero, someone has to set on the curb and clap! HEAT EXHAUSTION By: Robert Doc Bob Mix Heat related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, occur when your body can t keep itself cool. As the air temperature rises, your body stays cool when your sweat evaporates. On hot, humid days, the evaporation of sweat is slowed by the increased moisture in the air. When sweating isn t enough to cool your body, your body temperature rises, and you may become ill. Heat exhaustion is a milder form of heat related illnesses that can develop after several days of exposure to high temperatures and inadequate or unbalanced replacement of From The CD We are finishing up plans for our chapter rally, which is coming up Aug. 8 th. We need everyone to bring rally door prizes to the July meeting, so that we can see where we are at. We still have some blank spaces on our committee list. This year all current chapter couples will have free admission to our rally. Everyone else will have to pay for that #1 brisket lunch; but what the hey, you don t find a meal like this every day! Till next time Ride Safe and Stay Cool. Don & Pam fluids. Those most prone to heat exhaustion are the elderly, those with high blood pressure and people working or exercising in a hot environment. Heat exhaustion happens when your body gets too hot. It can be caused by exercise or hot weather. You may feel weak, dizzy or worried. You may get dehydrated and have very little urine output. Some warning signs are heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, fainting. (continued on page 8)

3 CHAPTER STORE: P A G E 3 We have Windshield Covers for $20.00 each. Protect your investment while supporting the Chapter!!! REMINDER: Please bring all door prizes that you have gathered for our Chapter Rally to the July meeting so that we can determine if we have enough!!!! On the Safe Side: By George Coiner Hi Guys and Gals It seems that June gave us some nice riding weather in Arkansas, but not where Nova was. I know you guys get tried of me talking about group riding, being visable, and being alert. If I harp on these it is because these things keep us alive. Redundancy of information it what helps us to maintain memory. I what all of the things I talk about to become instinctive. I do not what you to have to think about what to do at the last second. Keep yourself thinking all of the time and you might avoid and accident. I hope everyone got a chance to ride in June. Maybe the weather will hold for July. ROAD CONDITIONS ( gcoiner@cenurytel.net) Still under construction: Wagon Wheel road AR 72 out of Bentonville to the bypass Ar. 59 between Gentry and Siloam Springs Ar. 102 out of Bentonville to greenhouse rd. They are trying to widen it. Ar.59 is complete to the straight section called 3 mile road, Or from the Dawn Hill turnoff to US 412 junction. Mount Comfort Road has two projects going first the exit ramp and second to widen the road it self. Don told me about four bridges on old AR 71 between West Fork and Winslow he is working on. Two are being worked on now and two more bridges after that. Bob told me about a concern north of Mountainburg about 3 miles. Only one lane and that is gravel. On AR 23 north of Ozark there is more construction. If you know of any other construction, me. Until next time: Remember our motto: FRIENDS for FUN, SAFETY, and KNOWLEDGE For now keep the rubber side down... Geo & Dora Wing Ding to Rally Let s GO!! By the time you read this you should have already left for WING DING! I know everyone s schedules are tough to match up and everyone is going over at various times and days, but with it being this close, you gotta! You don t have to worry about getting that grand prize ticket I already have it. It s also tough to talk about Wing Ding with OUR rally just around the corner. I know everyone is ready and willing to help out if you get tapped on the shoulder and if you don t want to wait, I m sure you can volunteer to do what you prefer by just giving a hollar. The weather need I say more is not being very cooperative with any kind of planning, mainly with regards to the 200+ lunch run, which WE WILL DO. I have even gone so far as to test run it again, you just can t bet Huck s when it comes to catfish. I did a prelim run to the Hole and then to Huck s and I m sorry, there is no comparison. But it was 103 when we got to Hucks and I know that can be an issue for some folks and we don t want to create problems. We are still in negotiations on when to go, there has been some talk about pushing it to later in the year when it s cooler, but we will have to see, I know everyone has been getting tough just to be able to make the ride. I also chatted with the folks at the Honda dealer down in Texas and they want us to stop by when we do make the run. Maybe we can talk them out of something>!>? We have survived the vacation run to 4 corners. If you haven t heard any of the stories yet you just need to ask. But the mail person don t got nothing on us! 3000 Plus miles and all we come back with is stories is pretty good wait a minute, I forgot, I did loose one of my eagles from a flagpole, talk about strong winds it was able to unscrew the metal eagle and rip it off the bike, now I know how a Harley rider feels like. 4 BUZZY CHECKING OUT THE BLUE ANGELS Buzzy in a Simulator with a Blue Angel Pilot Insurance After Carl and Gay contacted their insurance company (G E I C O), they found out that their TRIKE was only covered as an accessory for only $2000. This info got me to thinking. I checked with my insurance agent and found out that Shelter Ins. does not insure TRIKES at all. Then I contacted other companies, and found out that some do and some do not cover TRIKES. All companies that do cover TRIKES must have a picture of the bike. Most cover a TRIKE as a motorcycle but at a higher rate. Some require that you put a separate policy on the trike kit, so much for every $100 worth of coverage. Be sure you check with your insurance agent to find out if and how you are covered. Tell them that you need a written document. Because remember what happened to Carl and Gay. Geo and Dora CALLING ALL PICTURES!!!! Rose West, one of our newest members, has offered to take on the horrendous task of organizing our pictures to start a new Chapter Scrapbook. We thought about going back no father than If you have any pictures from chapter meetings, events, rallies, etc., please either print them out and label them or put them on a CD with some type of labeling and give them to Rose. Also, we would like to run a couple of featured members in the newsletter, as we have quite a few new faces in our Chapter. If you are like some of us, putting names and faces together can be a challenge. If you can write up a few lines about yourself, your hobbies, family, etc. and give them to Rose or Pam, it will be greatly appreciated. Not only will we have featured couples in the newsletter, but this will also be put in the scrapbook. It is really great that our chapter is growing. Any type of participation from the members is always encouraged and appreciated.

HEAT EXHAUSTION (continued from page 1) Frank & Sharon Maxwell Chapter B, ACD The muscle cramps can come on during periods of physical activity, however in mild cases it can occur at rest as a leg cramp in the calf. In more extreme cases where physical activity is in excess or prolonged, it can be as abdominal cramps, or cramps of the legs or arms. If you think you have heat exhaustion, get out of the heat quickly. Rest is a cool, shady place. Drink plenty of water or other fluids, avoiding alcohol and caffeine. A cool shower, bath or sponge bath may help. If you don t feel better within an hour, seek medical attention, as the condition could progress to heat stoke. You should consult your family physician if you have ANY underlying conditions as high blood pressure, heart conditions or are taking medications for allergies, diet pills, irritable bladder and/or bowel medications, laxatives and seizures, to name a few. 10 From Your District Directors Wow, where has the month gone! We have been busy trying to get ourselves together. We think we have everything in one basket, now we just have to climb in the basket and sort it all out. We have been busy since the last letter. We finished the month with Chapter L s rally and then started off June with a trip to one of our newest chapters in the District, the Roadrunners of Van Buren, Chapter R. Both of these rallies were a lot of fun and we enjoyed competing with others in the bike games at R. The following Sunday we headed to Jonesboro to sit in on their meeting and help them push on to the next level for the oldest chapter in the state. the next weekend Pam and I ended up in Warren with Don & Darlene Savage from Chapter F, helping them out with a bike show and a little promoting for our Motorist Awareness Division. Then on the 20th we caught up with Chapter A at their breakfast meeting and after a short nap ended up in Conway at Chapter l s meeting. As you can see we have been trying our best to get out and visit and help all of our chapters in the District. If we are going to reach our goal of taking Arkansas to the next level, then we have to be willing to do our part. But we can not do it alone we need each of our chapter members to get out there and help in every way they can. The best and most fun way to contribute is to go visit others. Each of us have a part in this District and the more we contribute the more fun it will be. Wing Ding is upon us and we are heading out early Wednesday morning to get there in time to help set up the Goodie Booth and to cheer Mike and Pat on in the international couple selection. We encourage all of you to try and make some time. It will not get much closer to our state than this, so go for a day or the weekend or for whatever you can. We look forward to sharing the fun of another Wing Ding with you! See you there, and remember, If it looks like a good day to ride it probably is. Chris & Pam DePriest
