He is Brett Gardner and he is a food safety specialist. His presentation will be about all those nasty things that we have heard about that can really make you sick, things like E Coli and other bacteria. It should be an interesting and wholesome topic. Also don t forget about Ladies Day, May 31. Hope to see you there. Twenty-six of us made the trek over. The fishing was a little slow but 17 fish were caught. Six fish were weighed in ranging from 6 lb 11 oz down to a little under a pound. 1st place: Alex Alexander...6 lb 11 oz; 2nd place: Don Brown...3 lb 2 oz; 3rd place: Lloyd Willoughby...2 lb 8 oz. Fishing will pick up as the weather gets warmer and the fish become more active and feed. Our next derby is at Lake Oroville on March 13 followed by a great NDO at New Malones on March 20. Many of our wives join us on Ladies Night Out. Next month Frank Reetz and his wife, Jean, will host dinner out at Casa Ramos on March 15. Thinking about joining our wonderful fishing club...contact Ralph Schuhriemen at We are one of the finest fishing clubs in all of California! BOWLING CHAIRMAN Dick Martegani, : Our SIRs 49ers bowling is winding down for the 2006/07 season. The last week of regular league bowling is April 18th with a sweeper s tournament for singles and doubles on April 25th and the league Banquet on May 2nd at the Folsom Elks. The first half champs, the Gold Rush, with Chris Hauan and Skip DeSilva, will face off against the second half winners on April 28th for the league
4 championship. Currently Ray Trice and Don Barrett's team the Gold Diggers are in first place in the second half. Current averages for the 49er bowlers are: Joe Dopson, 163; Richard Kyle, 169; Wayne Philpot, 183; Don Weick, 144; Dick Martegani, 207; Clark Hime, 167; Chris Hauan, 169; Skip DeSilva, 197; Don Barrett, 164; Ray Trice, 178; Chuck Craig, 173; Sevy Cimaroli, 160; and Andy Ventimiglia, 146. There are 22-4 man teams this year, and the league will reorganize teams this summer. Anyone interested in being on a team for the Sept. 2007/08 league that bowls Wednesday at Fireside Lanes, call Dick Martegani, League Secretary/Treasurer at (916) All league members must belong to USBC by buying a membership card at the start of the league. ENERGY GOES WHERE ATTENTION FLOWS On March 6th, the Hackers opened the season on a gorgeous day at Mather. With the exception of a few players, it appears that most of us need to work out kinks from the off season. One of those who displayed midseason form was Fred Miller. Using his majestic, rhythmic swing, he posted the winning score of 89-19=70. Kessinger took 2nd with a strong round of net 72, followed by Navone, Niemi and Buer who tied for 3rd with net 76 s. In the Super SR. flight, John McCarthy ran away from the field posting a score of 97-34=63. Klingelhoets was up to his standard of last year, opening with a net 66. Shigemoto shook off last years cobwebs with a nifty score of 69. Fernbach and Firanzi tied for 4th with net 71 s. Results of this month s tournaments will be available at the SIRS luncheon meeting. Two featured topics will be the focus of the meeting. What are those topics? Come to the meeting for the answers to your curiosity. WACKY HACKERS CHAIRMAN Jim Stephenson, ; Asst. Chairman: Bud White ; Treasurer: Fred Asche, ; Tournament Chairman: Bill Southworth, ; Handicap Chairman, Joe Lapilusa ; Course Procurer: Mike Navone, , Secretary, Jack DuBe, It s March, meaning the official start of our 2007 golf season. The Wacky Hackers would like to welcome the following new members into our golf group: Dick Yates, Wayne Balmus, John Cordero, Bob Haines, Rich Nodlinski, Earl Matlock and Norm Boyer. The tournament sign-up sheets will be made available in the main hall at approximately 10:45 to 11:15. The sign-up tables will be located near the window side of the dining hall. At approximately 11:10, the golf meeting will commence in the meeting room located to the left side of the lobby. The season s 1st tournament scheduled at Antelope Greens was rained out, but has been rescheduled for Monday, April 2nd. Golf Rule: Player A has hit his shot onto the green. Player B plays his approach shot to the green which hits Player A s ball and causes it to move. How is this situation resolved? Come to the meeting and find out! 2007 Meeting Dates March 29 th April 26 th May 31 st (Ladies Day) June 28 th July 26 th August 30 th September 27 th October 25 th November 29 th December 13 th (Ladies Day) 4
