And there was a pileup of work to be done, which has left little time for relaxation. Let me get on with the reconstruction of Issue #16, from Allan's notes. MAXVILLE SLOGAN One of the nicest K cancels has appzed dtlng the past summer. This was the slogan cancel used at MAXVILLE, ON-a town that normally doesn't have a Klussemdorf machine. The normal cancel used at Maxville is the old duplex canceller. The first members to report this slogan were Bob Thorne and Gordon McDonald. Bob also reported a Maxville cover dated June 14,1991 with the duplex. Bob's K cover is dated 02 VU 1991 with a 9 timemark. Gordon's strike is 22 VII I have three covers with 28 VII 19919,06 VIII 19915, and 21 VI (a date before the machine arrived, so probably an emor for VII). The LKU appears to be 06 Vm. Tony Shaman in an article in Canadian Stamp News reports and shows an error from this cancel: 12 VI , probably meant to be 12 VII My third cover is also an error date (VI forvii). So far then, we have two errors and four different timemarks: 0, -00, 5. and 9. In a communication from the postmistress of Maxville, I learned that she received the machine 21 VI 1991 in the afternoon and started using it at that time, and continued until they came to pick it up 07 VIII 1991 around 8:30 am. The serial number on the machine was She believes the machine is used in the Rideau Division of Canada Post for training. Because it was not practical to geta town name slug for Maxville, the machine was run for the whole period with the town-province hub removed. The postmistress, Doreen Crites, noted in her letter of Auguse8,1991 that Maxvillecelebrated its 44th annual Highland Games on the previous weekend, with over 22,000 visitors in a town of800 people. The slogan read MAXVILLE CENTENNIAL The centre is black with the words in intaglio. A thistle is in the centre. In the September 24,1991 issue of Canadian Stamp News, Tony Shaman had a nice writeup on this slogan. This is the second time such a hub has been found, but this is the first time that it was used deliberately. The previous time was for three days at Elliot Lake due to a broken pin in the machine and the inability to insert the hub until it was repaired. This is by far the most unusual and inticate K s!~p to cox d;long to dats. 2 The Kliissendorfer Page 280 YELLOWKNIFE ERRORS Kevin O'Reilly of Yellowknife has sent us some interesting reports regarding the YELLOWKNIFE K machine. In July, the last normal day was 08 VII On 09 VII 1991, there was a double error of the month of 09 VIII for VII. This went to 12 WI error for 12 VII. In addition, the POSTAL CODE was inverted from 09 to 12 VII. Correction occurred with 12 Vn 1991., with both the errors and invert and the correction occuning on the same day. NT QUEBEC Ks Lany Walker in Montreal has sent us a two-page report of an inventory of his 3000-plus K covers from Quebec province, - oriented towards the timemarks in order to show their periods of use. The report is reproduced on pages 281 and 282. Where there are two lines (=), this means=. Dots should be at the hyphen level. When I was in PORTAGELAPRAIFUE, MB in mid-july, I stopped at thepo and obtained several hand-back cancels of thek machine. The postal clerk was rather surprised that I was interested in the machine, or even knew about it. She was pleased to know that there are collectors out there. The machine is used for local mail, but some out-of-town mail does get cancelled with the K machine. kgs -

JOHN, and DAWSON CREEK Alaska Highway slogans, all dated in July, in case we were not aware. In addition, Keith sent along a photocopy of theadvertising card for the handstamp cancel similar to the slogan. CHICOUTIMI can be easily distinguished from LA TUQUE. In the LA TUQUE hub, at the top right, the top parts of the former town name are still visible, although there is not enough to decipher the town name. In the CHICOUTIMI suikes, there are no visible maces of a former town name. There is a report of 08 In 1991 BL with a LA BAIE, PQ comer card with a blank town name. LA BAIE is fairly close to CHICOUTIMI, and is a known date of CHICOUTIMI use. It is probable that this is not a LA BAIE envelope but a CHICOUTIMI envelope.
