North Queensferry Football Club Newsletter Edition June 2017 First Introduction A warm welcome to our first North Queensferry Football Club newsletter. Here we aim to share with you the story of how we came together as a club, what we have achieved in the last few months as well as our ambitious plans for the future. The nucleus of our club was formed at the start of the 2017 from a group of about 20 boys born in 2006 who had been playing together in another club. The parents of these boys wanted to keep them all together and build on the talent, teamwork and friendships which they had developed over the preceding 2 years. Most of us knew very little about how to create a football club. It quickly became apparent that there is a great deal more to it than that but thanks to the experience of Head Coach Danny Creasey, Coach Development Officer Ian (Danny s dad) and a large helping of effort and enthusiasm from the Committee we have actually made it happen. From the initial idea in January 2017, we formed a committee and coaching team, set up a website, raised sponsorship funding, arranged kit and training facilities. Our aim is to build a community focused club which our players can participate in right through to adulthood. It s an ambitious undertaking but the following pages will show you just how much we ve achieved in a short space of time. Roddy Dalziel Chairman Stuart Thynne Vice Chairman The Committee Chairman Hi, I m Roddy Dalziel the man in charge of the gavel at committee meetings! I regret that I didn t play football when I was young as being involved in NQFC has taught me just what I missed out on. We have extremely talented people on the NQFC committee, Club Secretary Gordon Hay manages club and player registrations, and produces the Agenda and minutes for our meetings. Treasurer Sarah Chadwick manages our income and expenditure to ensure we receive all income due and to prevent Danny and Ian overspending on kit! Head Coach Danny Creasey has overall responsibility for player development with a wealth of knowledge about running a youth football club. Coach Development Officer Ian Creasey first became involved in coaching youth football before son Danny was old enough to kick a ball. Ian works closely with Danny, Vice-Chair

Your Club Needs You! Stuart Thynne uses the experience gained in his day job as an Assistant Head Master, working closely with the Chairman in the running of the club. As the club develops and grows we are always looking to welcome committed volunteers who would like to join our team in either coaching or supportive roles. If you have relevant football coaching qualifications, or would like to support our players as a first aider, and receive training for this role, or be available to ensure the well-being of our players as Player Protection Officer please contact any member of the Committee who will be more than happy to discuss this further and introduce you to the appropriate club member who can answer any questions you may have. Look Familiar? you to everyone for everything you have all done to help, no matter what it has been. Also, an apology, if we have missed anything or miscommunicated anything in the last few months we apologise. Things are not always simple and there will always be differing opinions as well. We are all learning on the job! Now is a good time to take stock and clearly set out where we are going, what we want to achieve. We started the grass season with our two squads, the Clarets and the Blues, our 20 boys. With a slightly uneven split it was clear we needed to strengthen our teams a little. During our earliest meetings, we had set out an aim of keeping all our boys together going to 11 aside and into adulthood, if they wish. Just when we thought we had a plan around growing the squads very late this year or early next year things took a twist. An Overview Of The Aims And Ambitions Of The Club By Head Coach, Danny Creasey Sometimes we forget how young our club is, how fast things have moved and what has been achieved. It is a good time to say thank We had a few more players ask to come along, it was clear that boys were keen to join our club including from local ones that are cutting down on entire teams. It presented us with an opportunity and some issues. After lengthy discussion, it was agreed we would expand now rather than later. But to do so with care there were aims agreed upon, which were roughly as follows: Grow the number of players to between 30 38, ideal for two 11 aside teams Make that number work for the 7 aside season Bring in boys that would strengthen our current squads Not impact on game time, training or any other factor for any existing players Not to endanger the club finances Not to overstress the coaching team Limit the impact on an already busy committee where possible

We are now at 29 players, a good start on the road to 11 aside with another open training session still to come. So, the big question that was asked was how do you make that work for a 7 aside season? Is it going to have a negative effect on any of the players? The answer is relatively simple and we created three squads at 7 aside. We have already agreed on the coaching team split. Ian and Danny will continue with the Clarets squad. Colin will now work with Andy McCreadie with our new Whites squad. Colin and Dean will be taking the Blues squad. In addition, we have ad hoc help at training from Mike Symes as well as Gordon Hay, Mark Chadwick and Becky Hay from the village. Thank you all for the time and effort you put in. We would recommend coming along to our new Friday fitness you sessions, let Becky/Gordon and Mark put and the boys through their paces! We hope that the impact will be positive. It gives a higher coach to player ratio than most of the boys had previously enjoyed. It encourages a spirit of competition to move between squads. And more than anything it will ensure the boys will get more game time. There are likely to be rota systems in place but with the right size of squads the boys are going to sit out games less often. Most important of all no single squad will be treated any differently to the others. They will all have equal access to coaches, training, equipment, social activities, etc., giving them all the same chance to grow and enjoy themselves. We are aiming for three strong, competitive squads that give our boys great enjoyment. Financially we have been very fortunate, a fantastic effort from all. Especially Sarah B as the Fundraising Officer, who has worked and continues to work wonders. We also want to reduce workload on the coaches and committee, and need to call on extra help to support the club s rapid growth. I think Our most recent news is that we now also have a 2004 squad, a great addition. Again, right from our very beginnings we had talked about adding teams further down the line. Yet again circumstance has favoured us and we have taken that first step already and look forward to seeing our 04 s grow. We have been approached by people to start other age group and girl s teams that is fantastic and we will consider everything with careful planning. So, as well as our plans around our squads we are always considering equipment, qualifications and facilities. We are already in discussion with the community council and others regarding improving the current 11 aside surface at Brock Street. That is no small undertaking but one we are ready to take on for our boy s futures, so watch this space. It is a good time to point out that unlike many clubs our committee meetings are open events. Our agendas are published in advance and minutes posted afterwards. Any parent, concerned party or person wishing to get involved in some way is more than welcome at our committee meetings. If you have any questions, ideas, concerns or comments you can always approach a coach, a PPO or committee member or even better come to one of the meetings and tell us all in person. Help us shape the club s future, the future is bright the future is Claret(&Blue&White)! Interview with The Head Coach Three of our players Fraser, Josh and David took some time to interview Head Coach Danny Creasey to find out a bit more about the man they call the human hair-dryer..

Fraser: What is your opinion North Queensferry as an area? Coach: It s brilliant! In footballing terms, we have access to amazing facilities which, with a little bit of investment, will be turned into something very special. Josh: Do any of the coaches have jobs outside of football coaching? Coach: Yes, we all have jobs, all except my dad Ian who s retired, although he would probably tell you his full-time job is looking after me Fraser: Why did you want to become a coach? Coach: Because of my Dad. My dad helped me when I was young with football, golf, cricket and rugby. So, once I had kids of my own I felt it was my turn to be a coach. David: What s the worst thing about being a coach? Coach: Laughs. Not being able to use the boot of my car because it s full of footballs. Josh: Does the team have set positions for each player? Coach: No, not really, apart from the goalkeepers. Players usually start a game in the same position but once we do the first substitutions we mix it up a bit. We want to see players playing in different positions so we can decide on their best positions in the future when we move to 11-a-side. Josh: Is NQFC hoping to have a long future ahead for 06 boys? Coach: Definitely. We have increased the 2006 squad to three teams of 7-a-side so that when we move to 11-a-side in August next year we will have enough players to field two teams. And you can keep playing in those 11-a-side teams until you re as old as me if you like. Josh: How many teams will we have for the Futsal league this year? Coach: We haven t decided yet. Ian and I have talked about this very briefly. We will probably have 4 teams to make sure everyone gets a game each week but that will depend upon us having enough coaching resources to cover the games. David: Do you prefer to win ugly or lose pretty? Coach: That s a tough one. Yeh, I do like to win but I prefer seeing good football so I ll say lose pretty, but don t let Mike know I said that!!... My view on training, matches and the future of the club. By Alex Thynne, age 10, Defender, 2006 Whites I have enjoyed training despite the challenges that have arisen. I think that all the boys work as hard as they can, and so do the coaches. I have also enjoyed meeting new friends that I get to see at training. I enjoy the new training at North Queensferry as it is somewhere I know very well and it being in my own village is great. Matches The matches have been challenging, but challenge can be good. We have also had some good matches where we have done very well. We also get a chance to work as a team and develop our skills that we have learned in training. The Future In the new season we are starting a new third team called The Whites and we will enjoy getting to know any new players that join the squad, or any new coaches. We are also looking forward to the new MUGA that will be coming our way in the next year. Our club is doing really well and I enjoy being a part of it. North Queensferry Multi-Use Games Area As a result of an incredible amount of hard work over a number of years by

the North Queensferry Community Centre who have helped us when we have been Council and the North Queensferry short of players. Community Trust and with the generous We have trials organised so hope to get support of Fife Council, the green light was more players, which will give the boys given in May for the development of a competition for places. Training as a whole purpose built games area in the village. The has been good with some wilfulness pitch will be second generation AstroTurf creeping in at times. Overall Danny and I which will allow the community to enjoy a are pleased with the way the season has wide variety of sports including football, gone, and can see a bright future for the hockey, netball, basketball and tennis. The team. I would like to thank our loyal band area will be fenced in and will have of supporters, whose support on match floodlights to allow sports to be played all days is much appreciated. year round. Stats for Clarets. During the winter NQFC currently has to spend a large amount of our annual budget on AstroTurf training facilities at Dulloch and for indoor facilities at Woodmill. The NQ MUGA will allow us to train in the village all year round at a significantly reduced cost and keep our winter training sessions in the village. We also hope that it will encourage other parents and children in the village to become part of our club now that we will have our very own training hub based in NQ. The Council will be managing the project on behalf of the Community and all being well this will hopefully be completed by the autumn. NQFC would like to record our thanks for everyone in the village who has played a part in getting this amazing project over the line. [Please see the back page about how you can further support this project.] Season Report for NQFC 2006 Clarets. By Coach Ian Creasey The Clarets have so far played 13 games, their performance has been somewhat a mixed bag but more wins than not. On their day they have played some really good football, as in their victory against Burntisland Shipyard. In the games they have lost, they have contributed to their own downfall by not defending as team. In their defence they have had a few injuries, which with a small squad has not helped them, I would like to thank the boys from the Whites Played 13 won 7 Drawn 1 Lost 5 Goals for 43 Goals against 37 View from the Kitbag By Mike Symes Kit Manager At the start of 2017, there we were a group of parents who shared an interest in our boys playing football together following the collapse of their former club locally. Facebook Messenger had been our means of communication: what if we could we..do you think it s a lot of work..what about funding? You get the idea - we had a mad plan starting to come together, but could we actually pull this off? Fast forward a week and we re at the Albert Hotel discussing next steps form a committee, agree a club name, a badge, colours, where to train and many more unanswered ponderables, a whirlwind of a night but we had the nucleus of a football club coming together. Could we pull this off? If the passion and enthusiasm of this group of parents could be harnessed, we might have a chance of seeing this to fruition. First step, a committee who, what positions? So, the need for a kit and equipment manager was raised, at that

stage my body turrets kicked in, up went my hand too late, the deed was done. So, 3 months later and I have a full time job, oh no not my previous day job which I ve held for many years, but a new one; home kit, away kit, training tops, hoodies, equipment, extra kit, coaches kit, new boys joining, match balls, training balls, goals, bibs and many more and then 2004 s.what have I done! Fantastic effort from the committee and some great fundraising including new amazing support from idcit, Close Brothers, Handelsbanken as kits sponsors as well as Atkins and others have made this all possible. I ve also made a group of new friends, no not my fellow NQ committee members (although they are a super bunch!), but ACA Sports in Kirkcaldy, in particular Ross. Ross has been my go-to man for everything kit & equipment, he has the patience of a saint and without his help we would have made a few costly errors! Sizing should be relatively straightforward I hear you say but oh no, think again! Each manufacturer has a very different idea of what constitutes Medium, or when a boy stops being a Youth and becomes a Small Man or a Medium Man! Forget genetics, this is life according to Mitre or Adidas! Ross and the ACA team have been outstanding and having them at the end of the phone and - and ultimately just up the road in Kirkcaldy - has been a godsend. We re now pretty much there in terms of kit, we ll shortly have the track tops and then we ll move onto players hoodies. Important; if ordering a home or away shirt or any other article of kit please remember to tell ACA what sponsor logo you require, idcit for home, Close Brothers for away/training, Handelsbanken for track tops etc and also add club badge and squad number. Moral of this story; I ll keep my hand down next time and say nothing, ok so that s not entirely realistic, but my hand will stay down at least! The Sponsors When we decided to set up North Queensferry Football Club we quickly realised that running a football club was an expensive business. Thanks to our generous sponsors we have been able to purchase both home and away strips for the children to both wear for matches and to train in. Our main strip sponsors IDCIT have also provided sponsorship for the coaches kit so that they look the part too. Our strip sponsors are listed below. Who Has Made a Donations?

In addition to the sponsorship deals we have also kindly be given substantial donations from the following companies. These have helped us cover some of the set up costs for the new club and enabled us to purchase training equipment for the children to use. funds for the last instalment needed for the MUGA. and distributed around the village by the players of the North Queensferry Football Club. For more information or to contact the club please see the website For football equipment please use the following or contact Mike Symes: acasports.co.uk/team-kit/clubshops/north-queensferry-fc-clubshop We would like to thank all the companies highlighted for their help in getting NQFC off the ground. If you would like to help we have further sponsorship opportunities available as more squads join to club. If you would like to discuss sponsorships or donations further please contact Roddy Dalziel at A debt of gratitude is owed to the North Queensferry Community Centre and other members of the Community Council for arranging access to the playing fields for training, and for their supporting in championing the MUGA which will be a huge asset for the players and all village residents who want to get fit and have fun. North Queensferry Football Club is still looking for financial support to allow the club to grow and include more players and volunteers, The club is also helping to raise
