3 The purpose of Lamar Soccer Club is to provide an opportunity for the youth of Fort Bend County to develop soccer skills, to foster proper attitudes toward competition and sportsmanship, to learn respect for rules, the value of teamwork, self-discipline, and the gaining of self-confidence through the improvement of their soccer skills. Most importantly, the purpose is to provide a fun, enjoyable, satisfying experience for all participants: players, coaches, referees and parents. Programs are organized for children based on their age and skill level. To support our mission, LSC is a volunteer-driven organization. At the same time, we are a player-centric organization. All our programs focus around the player. We recognize that the player will likely play with other teams, systems, and programs over their soccer career and want to develop players who can succeed in whatever path their lives and soccer careers take them. Through this model, our development programs are goal driven in order for the player to succeed. This translates to success for our teams and for the club as well. We would like to be able to offer every child in the community an opportunity to play in our program, but this is not viable given the costs and travel associated with play within HYSA, STYSA, and USYS. However, we do offer need-based full and partial subsidies to players wanting to play in the program. This year, we are making a drive to install fencing for traffic control and child safety. As we continue to grow and serve the population in the Richmond-Rosenberg area, we rely on sponsors and generous donations to meet the needs of the growing player-base. Although based in R- R, we play throughout Houston and across the state in competitions and bring in teams from all over the area.
4 CLUB CHALLENGES Unfortunately, in today s society, child security is of utmost concern. The club is working to be able to install fencing around our entire complex to protect our children further. We need to upgrade our current competition fields. We have space but must reconfigure the fields for play in the fall of The minimum cost for this project will be around $15,000 as we purchase goals and backstops. In order to water the fields, we rely on a hand-watering system including hoses and water cannon. It is not capable of reaching all the fields we currently have much less the additional we must add. We are working to raise enough capital funds to put in an irrigation system to maintain the grass on the fields. With the additional fields and increase in players comes the need to expand our current lighting. We currently only cover 2 full-sized field equivalent with proper lighting. Two other full-sized fields are covered only from one side meaning the opposite side is dark and unusable. We also have a 3-light system lighting up about two-thirds of one half of a smaller competition field. This means multiple teams are sharing fields in order to train especially during the shorter days. Our current storage system is one 20-foot intermodal container that is damaged (not weatherproof) on one end. It is also located at the far end of our leased area. We would like add centrally-located storage near the electrical pen. If we can raise enough funds, this project would include covering our electrical pen. The field conditions are becoming more and more difficult to maintain without a major overhaul. We would like to have all our fields reworked which includes leveling the fields and putting in new turf as well as some methodology of dealing with digging varmints. We meet at the PGVFD on Pitts Road for all club meetings and training. We also overflow into the public library in Richmond on occasion. Our players use questionably maintained public bathrooms at the park including no lights which is unsafe especially for our youngest players and their young siblings. We would like to eventually build a club house where we can have our board meetings, conduct coach training and player classroom sessions, and provide better restroom facilities for our players and those from other clubs. Although definitely a more luxury item, the club would also like to build 2-4 covered futsal courts. We could run futsal leagues (winter and summer) and utilize the courts for training during rain. This would also be another revenue source for the club. We are frugal with our money and make little money from year-to-year from our players. Almost 90% of the money brought in is spent directly on programs with the other 10% going to club improvements. In keeping with our mission to serve the entire population, this amount of money is not enough to continue growing the club and serving our members. We will either have to raise our cost to the players to make some of these improvements or involve sponsors who share our vision to serve the community and receive good will in return.
5 HOW CAN YOU BE INVOLVED All sponsorship monies left after cost of fulfilling obligations go toward scholarships for deserving and disadvantaged players, supplies and equipment, challenges listed previously, and other club programs as designated by the board of directors.
