5 LOGO tba Nepean Sponsored by Leader Community Newspapers T Jimmy Jennings - Rye FC. his weeks MPNFL young gun nomination is awarded to Jimmy Jennings of the Rye Football Club. Jimmy has played the first 4 games of this season on the wing for the Rye Senior team and has been named in the best in each game, a fantastic achievement for this 17 year old, who last year was playing under 16 football for the Rye Junior Club. Jimmy started at Rye in the Under 12 s in 2004, having a fine junior career, many people who had watched Jimmy s progression in the juniors knew he would play senior football at a young age, and he hasn t disappointed them. Jimmy was also named co-captain of the Rye under 18 side this year, another outstanding achievement for a player in his first year at the senior club. One person not surprised on how good Jim has been so far this year, is Coach Steve Ryan. I could tell last year, when Jimmy was playing under 18 s as a 16 year old he was going to a very good player, and honestly I am not surprised by his form in the first 4 games. He trains extremely hard, and has been training since the first night in Pre-Season, back in November, and is rewarding himself and the football club with his great form. He is a pleasure to coach, is very committed, has a great fitness base and shows great maturity for a player so young. His willingness to learn and listen to myself and the other assistant coaches is another reason he is playing so well. Ryan also said, For a player of his age he plays like he has played senior football for 2 or 3 years, physically he is fantastic, goes in very hard and makes the ball his priority and if the opposition doesn t pay him any respect he will cut them up. He keeps his feet and is very very quick for a player around 6ft.1. He has been great for us on the wing this year. Jimmy said, he just loves playing football, and to play seniors in his first year of open age is fantastic. I really follow what Steve and the assistant coaches tell me about certain players I will come up against and my instructions for the day. I also get great advice from senior players like Travis Shaw and Matt Noldt, who have both taken me under their wings and that s great. In the AFL I follow Essendon, and loved watching James Hird, while of the current players I like the way Adam McPhee plays. Jimmy played most of his Junior football on the half back flank, or at centre half back, and last year was runner up in the under 18 s best and fairest award as a 16 year old. Playing on the wing is great, and it s a position I haven t played much as a junior, so its new to me, but really I would play anywhere the guys want me to play, I just enjoy the opportunity I have in playing senior football at Rye, its great. The Rye Football Club would like to congratulate Jimmy Jennings on being nominated this weeks MPNFL Young Gun. M.T. Let s turn things around today and get three wins on the board at home. The 18 s kept on their winning ways, but almost kicked themselves out of it in the second quarter. Today we meet Somerville and have the chance to do just that. Our next home game against Red Hill will be a prostate awareness day and not knowing a lot about this subject, during the week I did some investigating. Who better to quiz than two blokes, both well and truly the other side of fifty. I found the Gourmet Guzzlers down at the RSL. The boys have been running security for the courtesy bush since a rather ugly incident occurred during the off season. Apparently a couple of liquored up seniors ran a muck one night and the boys have stepped in to clean things up. Anyhow, between trips I asked the bouncers what they knew about prostate cancer. Davo seemed the more knowledgeable Well there are two ways to have a check up. The one I prefer is unobtrusive and actually quite pleasant, the other is a blood test. It was hard to get Mick s assessment as it was happy hour and he was in a froffy frenzy. Good luck to all players today. Last week s come from behind effort was up there when you consider it was 6-1 to a single goal at the 15 minute mark of the first quarter. The potency of the forward half has improved dramatically in the last two weeks. The takeaway in the centre of the ground is also better given the unavailability of Smithy and Floyd. Indeed the loss of Robbo, Jamie & Duffie for various reasons (not all of which the club is extremely happy) has created opportunities for others. Congrats to Kane and Happy on their milestone games, which I hope they celebrated with gusto along with their mates. I m not sure which senior coach was the happiest last week. The Two s played the best footy I ve seen from them for a couple of seasons. Their shooting for goal was sensational, and resulted in a 9 goal win. When you consider the players taken up to the seniors, plus several unavailability their depth has been sorely tested. Today we welcome the boys from Tractor Land. Pearcedale had two big wins themselves last week so the challenge is there for all three teams to perform today. Unfortunately the girls don t have a netball game, so they have to wait a couple of weeks for their next game as next Saturday is Queen s Birthday bye. We welcome our visitors for the first Coterie Lunch, and hope you enjoy your day. The Past Players Day has been rescheduled to a later date. Ball tickets are $100 a double, and Greeny needs deposits for the trip away. Friday opening on June 5th Musician s Night from 5.00pm. Light meals served from 6.00pm. A terrific turn out at the function lost of great outfits, lots of fun and it was great to see the effort that everyone went to make the function what it was! Unfortunately the thirds couldn t bring home the points, however battled hard all day. Best players were Little Dan Baxter, Dicko and Maxy as usual. The reserves got off to a great start and didn t look back, the s-man medallist and inspirational skipper, Pumper, had the boys ready to go from the first bounce, and Spud Walton rose to the occasion down back with easily his best game for the year. The seniors was a one sided affair, a goal within the first 30 seconds, and four to Big Bass in the first quarter alone sent an ominous sign to Somerville, and we didn t let up! Kreme rose to the top to finish with 11 (again) and Luke Damon dominated in the middle, picking up a mild case of leather poisoning and the s-man medal to boot! All in all it was a great team effort and to beat a team by a touch under 20 goals was great way to get or season back on track, lets take the form into a red hot Red Hill this week, and make it two on end at their home deck! Our last outing two weeks ago saw our Seniors win in a convincing fashion over Frankston Bombers. Although losing three players by half time, their teammates were able to continue applying enough pressure to bring home a fantastic 44pt win. Long term injuries are always hard to accept, but from adversity comes opportunity if you re given the opportunity to play in the senior team, grasp it with both hands. Our Reserves and Under 18 s, although battling hard were unable to sustain their efforts over four quarters and went down to well-drilled Frankston Bombers sides, Reserves by 20pts & Under 18 s by 9pts. Last Saturday the Rye FC s Teams of the Decades function was held with a number of the players since our inception in 1946 being honored. It was great to see so many former players accepting their awards and all speaking very highly of their time as players with the Rye FC. Those attending not only traveled from many parts of Victoria, but we also were lucky to have players returning from interstate and overseas. Congratulations to all those involved in getting this function to fruition, particularly President Mick O Rourke and Alex Yashenko for their work over a long period. Towards the end of the night it was great to hear the Rye theme song ring out over Mornington Racecourse, particularly from one Sorrento and two Rosebud stalwarts! Today all of our teams (including netballers) face another challenge from the in-form Dromana sides when we welcome them to Rowley Reserve let s bring the spirit and endeavour of those players from previous decades to the playing field today and continue creating our own slice of history. 14 Frankston Park News Young locals give a silver lining While it has been the Dolphins worst start to a VFL season, local players are still providing plenty of positives as the team tries to turn its season around. Particularly pleasing for the Dolphins hierarchy has been the return from a serious knee injury by Mornington s Dale Whelan. Wheels started the year by kicking a bag of goals in the reserves, and has since cemented a spot at centre half forward. In the Dolphins heart-breaking loss to ladderleaders Williamstown, Whelan was one of the best players on the field, completely out-pointing former AFL star Jason Cloke. Dale s brother Peder Whelan has also shown promising signs, adding significant size in the off-season and showing steady improvement to his tap ruckwork, while Narre Warren s Trent Shinners has stepped his game up to become one of the Dolphins key players. Langwarrin star Mark Baguley has been arguably the Dolphins best debutant so far this season, providing a strong contest across half forward and even spending some time on the ball. While Baggers has yet to kick a bag of goals, his strong tackling and unyielding attack on the ball have won him praise from teammates and supporters alike. Bonbeach whiz Shane McDonald is another who has shown promise up forward, helping create goals and even kicking multiples against the highly ranked Williamstown. If both Baguley and McDonald increase the quantity to match their quality, they will develop into excellent senior players. A number of Stingray recruits have also tasted senior football. Matthew Clark from Edi-Asp, one of the best midfielders in the TAC Cup last year, has spent some time on the ball, learning what it takes to succeed at senior level. Matthew Hibberd from Somerville has been solid down back, rarely being beaten in a one on one contest and beginning to show confidence in his ability to win the football. Alongside him the past three games has been Paul Rogasch from Hastings, who has shown poise and class beyond his years. While the Dolphins are currently in second last place, they are still only three games out of the eight, and a number of these talented y o u n g s t e r s could yet help lead a Dolphin revival. The Dolphins have launched their Target Dale Whelan 2000 membership drive, aimed at securing the club s future in the face of the AFL s determination to make significant changes to the VFL competition. The Target 2000 campaign has been running for just over a month, but already the club is approaching 500 members nearly doubling their membership base from To help secure the Dolphins future, you can join up as a gold member for $80 or a regular member for just $70, while pensioners can join for $35. Every member signed helps the Dolphins continue the broad service they offer the community. Despite competing each week against teams funded by AFL clubs, and filled with AFL players, the Dolphins have chosen not to align with an AFL club, meaning they can give far greater opportunities to local MPNFL players. So come on! Use some of your Rudd money and get on board, and make sure the Peninsula is represented in Victoria s top football competition. Phone or go to to become a member. 50 MPNFL Since 1908

16 Casey Cardinia Preview Game on again KEYSBOROUGH is still without a win at the bottom of the ladder but last week s close loss to Narre Warren proved that the Burra is on its way back to strength after a horror run with injuries at the start of the year. That is good news for the competition as we move into the middle part of a long season. The top sides are sorting themselves out with Pakenham and Doveton looking strong and Cranbourne, Narre Warren and Berwick all having excellent starts. But as all footy fans know, there are no premierships won in April or May and the next 12 rounds will sort out the contenders from the pretenders. Tooradin has underlined its improvement in recent weeks, while Beaconsfield is at the cross roads after an inconsistent start. Of the others ROC and Devon Meadows might be able to cause an upset of two on their way up the ladder. The Casey Cardinia league season continues to enthral and interest its legion of supporters. Narre Warren v Cranbourne This will be a great match providing both sides bring their A-games. The young Magpies have again defied all by, not only being competitive, but looking a certainty to again contest finals despite losing so many players both during pre-season and also as a result of injury this season. With the class of Brett Evans, Daniel Borninkhof, Jarrod Anderson and Michael Collins leading the way, the Magpies will be tough to beat again. However travelling does not seem to faze Cranbourne and that means the Fox Road home ground advantage might not be as great as many think. With a dangerous forward set up including Marc Holt, Brad Coller and Matt Fletcher all capable of kicking multiple goals, confidence will be high at the Eagles camp. However, confidence is one thing, putting it into action is another and the Magpies get the nod in this one by about three goals. Devon Meadows v Beaconsfield Devon Meadows season is slipping away and this weekend they face a must-win match at home against Beaconsfield. However the same sentiment applies to the Eagles and that should ensure a great game. Coming off the bye, Beaconsfield will have been doing their penance for a poor loss to Cranbourne a fortnight ago. They will likely welcome back Lachlan Oakley from injury but will need every player doing their bit from coach Robbie Taylor down to force their way back onto the winners list. Devon Meadows has been a better team this year but still has far too many lapses. With dominant forwards led by Aaron Henneman, Scott Morrison and Ash Adams in good form, a winning score is within reach, especially at home. These two sides have had some tough and, at times, spiteful contests in recent seasons but there will be no time for that stuff on Saturday. Beaconsfield might have a little bit too much class around the ground. ROC v Keysborough Last weekend s results make this an even more interesting game. Keysborough is poised to finally win a game, while ROC must regroup after a lesson from Pakenham. The Kangaroos have been much better and far more competitive this season. With the Tivendales, Greg and Ben, along with Tyler White, Kym Jones and Ash Comer all in great touch, the side can no longer be taken lightly whether they are at home or not. Coach Kris Fletcher s task is to instil a winning culture and that is still a work in progress. The Burra have been used to winning for several seasons, so what has occurred at the start of 2009 is for- 52 MPNFL Since 1908

17 eign to them. Big guns Tyson King, Luke McGuinness, Shaun Witherden and Greg Walker are just starting to hit better form and that will have the Kangaroos brains trust moving their magnets this weekend. How many moves they will need is the point but if ever the Burra are going to win one this year, this is it. Hampton Park v Pakenham The news just gets worse for Hampton Park. After capitulating last weekend against Tooradin, Josh Taylor s side has to front up to league powerhouse Pakenham this Saturday. The Redbacks look very good when they play consistent and simple football but unfortunately that is not often enough. Their leaders include Ryan Simpson, Matt Shorey, Gary Murphy and Dean Jamieson but every player will have to stand tall if they are to even be competitive this week. There are not many superlatives that have not been used to describe the efforts of the Lions this year and, again last week, they were superb. Captain Jared Goldsack is in tremendous form, as is Ryan Cassidy, Jeremy Everett, Beau Wheeler and Anthony Young. As much as we want to pump this game up, the only thing that may stop the Lions making a mess of the Redbacks is the severe home ground edge that the Booth Reserve supplies. Doveton v Tooradin Doveton often look like millionaires but just as often forget what makes them look that good-winning the hard ball. Tooradin are a well-drilled but simple side this season and if the Doves take them lightly a shock could occur. The inclusion of Chad Liddell and Beau Miller have strengthened the Seagulls but it is the simple but effective game plan supplied by coach Cristian O Brien that has been the difference in several games so far. Maintaining momentum is the key. The Doves are a top-notch unit but they stopped running in last weekend s game and, despite a magnificent nine-goal haul by spearhead Danny Casset, only fell over the line by two goals. They will be looking for a lot more run over four quarters this weekend. Unfortunately for the Seagulls they are a good chance of doing just that and this will be a case of the men against the boys, with the Doves winning by a lot and cementing themselves as Pakenham s main danger. Reserves THE two reserves sides yet to sing their song in 2009 ROC and Keysborough will square off in an attempt to earn their first four points for the season this weekend. The Kangaroos were expected to have more depth than they have shown while the Burra have been raped by injuries all year. Last week Keysborough looked good with the return of players and that should be enough to triumph in a close one. Top side Beaconsfield will be challenged by Devon Meadows at the Glover Reserve but it is impossible to see the Panthers winning despite their good early season form. Doveton will take time to put down the advance of a much improved Tooradin side, while Pakenham should account for Hampton Park. A top contest can be expected from Narre Warren and Cranbourne with the young Magpies tipped to take the points at home by a slender margin. Under 18s CRANBOURNE will travel to Narre Warren in the hope of overcoming the talented young Magpies and keeping their top three status in the under 18s in tact. Narre Warren is full of class but the Eagles dominant forward line should be too strong for their opposition and boot a winning score. Beaconsfield will expect to chalk up another four points but had better not take Devon Meadows lightly of a big upset could be the result. Pakenham has been a little disappointing to date this season but should work their way up the ladder a spot or two by accounting for Hampton Park without too much stress. Keysborough is struggling to get a full side, as is Tooradin and all players who continue to show up for a game each week are to be congratulated. Neither of those two sides will worry ROC or Doveton respectively this weekend. casey cardinia Tipsters Garry Howe Pakenham Gazette Keysborough Narre Warren Devon Meadows Pakenham Doveton 23 Geoff Ablett Mayor City of Casey ROC Narre Warren Devon Meadows Pakenham Doveton 20 Darryl Nisbet SWGFL Legend ROC Narre Warren Devon Meadows Pakenham Doveton 22 Brad Kingsbury 3SER Keysborough Narre Warren Beaconsfield Pakenham Doveton 23 Rod Willshire MPNFL Director ROC Narre Warren Devon Meadows Pakenham Doveton 20 Since 1908 MPNFL 53

The day started off well with a hard fought win in the Colts. It was good to see the hard work by the boys finally pay off, for there first win of the season. The Under 18 s played good football for two and a half quarters and were still in the contest at half time but didn t have enough goal kicking power to go with Pakenham on the bigger ground. The Reserves took it right up to Paky and were only down by 4 points at half time, but just couldn t run with a much quicker and fitter team. The Senior were competitive for about two quarters of the game, but again turnovers and a lot of basic skill errors cost ROC. 23 Snapsh t WHILE the weekend s football results were disappointing, Hampton Park centre half forward Matt Shorey was still in the mood to celebrate after his Partner Julie gave birth to their first child, a boy, Fynn last week. The big bloke has been a Redback since under nines apart from short stints with Garfield and Cora Lynn. Name: Matthew Shorey Club: Hampton Park Best player seen: It s a toss up between Lincoln Withers (Pakenham) and Shane O Brien (Hampton Park). Hardest opponent: Danny Brewster (Narre Warren). Biggest influence on career: My old man Derek. He doesn t miss a match. All time favourite sporting moment: Sydney s 2005 grand final win by far. My weakness is: Not helping out the missus enough, that ll keep me sweet. Most annoying team mate: Kev McLean. He s a one off, just really out there. Congratulations to our reserves team on a tough win, the whole team fought hard all day and got the reward in the end securing the 4 points. Best players were Reedy, Moony, Saunders, Bainy, Hammo and Glover. Our first win ever at Casey Fields! The senior team fought hard all day with the game being neck and neck at most stages of the day, unfortunately we didn t have the final quarter we had hoped for going down by 22 points in the end. Best players were Whoppa, Dehey, Damo, Morrison, McInnes and O Hare. The U/18 team didn t have the best of days but picked up the game after half time but it wasn t enough better players were Alanis, Churchy, Benay, Laing, Mitch and Varga. Better luck today boys. Today we face Devon meadows in our next test to see whether we still want to keep season 2009 alive. No excuses anymore. The Reserves also face their biggest test once again, and with a month of tough games ahead today is a great way to kick it off. Rockets Under 18s are travelling along nicely after a great performance against Cranbourne, like the Reserves they face their major challenges in the upcoming month so lets hope this form continues starting this week. Good luck to all teams involved. The Senior s started off slowly but once they hit their straps played some great attacking footy to over run the red backs. Arvo had a great game with a 4 goal and BOG performance. Hobbsi had another strong game with great run from the back line and Adam Splatt in shutting down a dangerous Shorey. Well done to Adam Galea who also racked up plenty of quality possessions. The Reserves had a strong win against a team they hadn t previously beaten in this competition. Well done to Az for BOG, Luke, Dave and Deszczy on standout games. Still great numbers getting to training putting plenty of pressure on everyone to perform. The under 18s, whilst getting easily beaten did show positives signs of improvement. Keep working hard Chris and the boys. The Senior boys should try to come watch and help the younger boys. A little support and advice to the kids on game day will build confidence and hopefully Tooradin s future. 33 Casey Cardinia Netball Preview Thelma and Louise present White Line Fever No. 6 I t was a pleasure to be out in the beautiful weather at Pakenham on Saturday to view the much talked about match up of the Lions versus the Roos. A disappointingly one sided game saw the Pakky girls easily take out the game over the Kangas by a convincing 18 points. Pakenham GS Rachel Priestly was unstoppable with her height under the ring, and easily accounted for ROC GK Sarah Villiers for the first half of the game. ROCs GS Kara Gerrads and GA Sarah Smith started the first half, after which time ROC coach Nic Robbins moved herself into GS which was a better combination for the team. Robbins also moved Mel Overdyk into the GK position for the last half, a move that paid dividends with Overdyks hussle type play doing a better job on tall shooter Priestly. Pakenham s mid court were the big difference though, with WD Jodie Bird an absolute stand out with a Best on Court performance. With a mature, strong and fast mid court, Pakenham controlled the ball for most of the game and were never challenged by the ROCers this time around. Berwick defect Jackie Dwyer made her A Grade debut for ROC with a last quarter display in WA. She showed great potential and we expect big things from this young speedy centre courter. At the other end of Cardinia we had Cranbourne host Devon Meadows in a must win game for the Eagles on their home turf. Cranbourne were with their full side which boasts coach and C Ally Hook, GD Tara Cecil and GA Tootai Nooroa, a menacing line up on paper any way you look at it. The Panthers on the other hand are playing some fine netball and took their A game up to the young Eagles team, eventually only going down by a mere 9 goals which is a great effort against a really strong Cranbourne side. For Cranbourne its now time to start stringing some wins along and they should as they start to CASEY CARDINIA FOOTBALL NETBALL SHOW Saturday mornings 8.00am am 8.00 am Netball with Alison Neil 8.20 am Football with Brad Kingsbury tackle the easier side of the draw on this half of the rounds. Looking at the ladder so close to the start of the season and we have the top five teams being not any different from the norm how boring! Now onto interleague news, and we have the squads announced for the Queens Birthday Weekend clash with the West Gippsland Football Netball League at Pakenham. It should be a close encounter and the win could go either way, but we will go with the ROC girls this time around Since 1908 MPNFL 69

34 Casey Cardinia Netball Narre Warren could be a chance against Cranbourne, but the Eagles look to have too much strength over the court and will take out the game on the weekend. Pakenham will crush the Parkers, as will Tooradin against the Doves. Beaconsfield should account for the Panthers, but the score line should be interesting as I don t think it will be as a significant win as some may assume. This weeks winning selections: ROC V Keysborough Narre Warren V CRANBOURNE Devon Meadows V BEACONSFIELD Hampton Park V PAKENHAM Doveton V TOORADIN Berwick with the bye Good luck to all teams today. DON T FORGET!! Every Saturday at 8am on 3SER 97.7 CASEY SOUNDS OF THE SOUTH EAST FM Alison Neil will be discussing the MPNFL Netball league with a different special guest each week. Hugs and kisses! Thelma & Louise XOX HAMPTON PARK Are we at crisis point, 2 weeks and 12 losses, and the way we are playing as a Club probably another 6 losses this week. What has gone wrong? I am not sure I can put it into words for the public to read. On the positive side we have the U\13 s coming along nicely and are competitive week in week out, the U\15 s are finally starting to listen to Scott and are playing much better, but there is still a lot of work to be done, the U\17 s were the shining light at the week-end, leading for most of the day only to lose their momentum when A.J. went down and badly spraining her ankle, eventually going down by 2 goals. C grade keep showing improvement and I am sure that a win is just around the corner, also we hope that James is okay Brem and that you are back and firing this week. B grade seem to have fallen of the rails in the last 2 weeks, they actually don t look like the same team that won 3 in a row, maybe it is time to go back to basics. A grade and I just don t know what to say so to be diplomatic I will keep my mouth shut. On a sad note the Club and the Hampton Park community lost a person who has been the backbone of the area with the passing of Elaine Milnes on Friday the 22nd, for people who are not aware of what this lady did for Hampton Park I will try to give you some idea. She was instrumental in the formation of Netball at the Football Club when it was first played in the old SWGFL then she started up Netball at the High School where 70 MPNFL Since 1908 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Club A B C Total Beaconsfield Pakenham Tooradin Berwick Narre Warren ROC Keysborough Cranbourne Doveton Hampton Park D Meadows she served on the Committee and as a Coach achieving Life Membership and was the present President all of which she duplicated at the Dandenong and District Netball Assoc was the Secretary and I believe a Life Member of the Hampton Park Progress Assoc, Secretary and Treasurer of the Hampton Park Sports Ground Committee and was the driving force behind all the improvements achieved within the Community, especially at Robert Booth Reserve, to say this Lady will be sadly missed is an understatement and on behalf of everyone at the Hampton Park Football Netball Club we pass on our sincere condolences to her family. BERWICK In perfect netball conditions we were able to win all games at home against Doveton, well done to all coaches and players. Thanks also go out to the gate keepers, advertising hangers, court sweepers, scorers, timekeepers and the tireless committee members who make each week happen without a hitch. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. On a very sad note, we offer our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Elaine Milne who passed away over the weekend. Elaine was a familiar face at the Dandenong & District Netball Association and ran the canteen like clockwork. She was a wonderful & tireless supporter of netball in this area and will be sorely missed by many within the Berwick Netball Club.

35 Casey Cardinia Netball TOORADIN What a weekend it was last weekend! Beautiful weather, function hype in the air & most importantly 6 out of 6 wins for the netball and a win for both the reserves & seniors! Yay, finally a win for our little 13 s to kick-start a great day of netball. Well done to Naomi and all the players. A great come from behind win for our 17 & under girls. Andrew wasn t worried a bit!! 3 physical games of netball in the senior matches and 3 good solid wins. Well done. With all the senior girls winning and the footy getting 2 wins, the 70 s disco was always going to be a BIG night. The costumes were just fantastic and the dance floor was packed all night. It was a fantastic night and I m pretty sure there were a few sore heads the next day. Bring back the 70 s I say!! Congratulations to Emily Van Rooye for making the 19 & under Interleague side. Good luck to all our sides today against Doveton and to Wellsy, Cristian and the footy boys. GO SEAGULLS!! KEYSBOROUGH What a busy week. We had ladies day with great weather. Thanks for all the fabulous food and desserts, they were unbelievably tasty!!! It was a good turn out and all the hard work paid off. Sadly we have to request that anyone who has information to come forward about a lady driving a 4WD who reversed into a car, then drove into another car AND the drove off! Costly damage was done to both of the parked cars. C grade had a close game with fabulous intercepts all down the court giving us lots of opportunities to get ahead. Jackie and Paula in defence did a fantastic job and they worked extremely hard. Fiona got some stunning intercepts. Bec had such a strong grab it was great to watch. Unfortunately we fell short by 4. Well done to all the girls you are terrific to watch. B grade had another great win having a tough side to play. But our quick shooters and strong team were too much for Narre s girls. Cannon s threw a few of her cannon-like passes, which 90% of the time hit the target. Larn s was given a tough run but played beautifully! Penny s shooting was phenomenal! A grade has unfortunately been hit by costly injuries having fewer than 7 players at the moment. Thank you to Steph for stepping up and giving her usual 110%. We ended up with a big win and our shooters were unstoppable. PAKENHAM Pakenham hosted ROC last week in great weather conditions for playing and spectating netball and had a very competitive day on the courts coming away with 5 out of 6 wins. The A grade game was going to be a great hit off between the neighbouring clubs and could always go either way with these very competitive teams. Pakenham showed their strong skills early and going into the final quarter widened the margin with an easier than anticipated win. Clearly the arrival of the strong support of the ROC footballers on the side line only motivated the Pakenham girls to prove their domination. B grade had another great win establishing a consistently strong team with great team spirit and talking on the court which will see them striding up the ladder. The strong and confident undefeated ladder leaders of C grade showed true commitment from all the girls delivering another fantastic win. Mel Tozer and Jess Christie played with confidence in the goal ring and goaled accurately while Bri and Aleisha s concentration in defence made it hard for ROC forcing many turnovers. Under 17 s against ROC is always a tough outing however the fitness training on a Thursday paid off resulting in a winning margin of 11. The under 15 s girls played extremely well with some excellent defensive work from Zoe and Bec and intercepts from Teagan with Ashleigh and Christie both working the ball well into the goal ring to ensure Paige, Courtney and Jac had many goal shooting opportunities. Pakenham came away with a solid win of 18 to 9. The under 13 s played a good game with much improved defensive pressure in the second half and Tahlia Brown played a great game on her tall opponents while Elise Russell also played a good game in defense. Unfortunately the result on the scoreboard of 14 to 43 was mainly due to inaccuracy of attacking and moving towards the ball. NOTES: Pakenham Netball Club celebrates 70 years with a function on July 11 in the social rooms. If you have any details of past players and supporters and/or would like to attend, please contact Club Secretary Jackie Christie on for tickets and information. Since 1908 MPNFL 71

37 Central East Tournament Report Under 13 s The Under 13 s were in Section 1 of the U13 Reserve competition. Round 1 was against City of Berwick and we had a convincing win of 8 to 4 to start off the day. Mikaela goaled very well and Taylor moved well in the goal ring. Gabby, WD made some brilliant intercepts and Maddy as WA worked around the circle well, feeding the ball into the goal circle. The second game, round 4 against Ariels Vic Churches, we lost 8-6. Tess defended well intercepting a number of passes. Olivia also intercepted a number of passes and moved very well all over the court as centre. Elise goaled well scoring 4 of our 6 goals. Round 7 was our 3rd game for the day and we played Springvale and District. We lost again by 2 goals, 6-4. Good defense combination Carly GD, Tess GD and Dani WD. Maddy played well in centre until injured her wrist and had to go to hospital. Round 10 against Lillydale Yarra alley 2 was our 4th game and we won The combination of Olivia in C, Lauren in WA, Mikaela in GA and Elise GS led to the ball flowing down the court into the ring beautifully. The fifth game, round 14 against Caulfield and District, the girls won 3-2 in a nail biting, low scoring match. The defence combination of Carly in GK, Dani in GD and Gabby in WD kept the ball out of the opposition s goal circle. Ashley goaled and moved well as GS. Our final game for the day, a must win game if there was a chance to play finals, was in round 17 against the Whitehorse Opals. We lost by a disappointing 1 goal, 6 to 5. By this stage the girls were tiring as it had been a long day, however there were a number of great intercepts by Lauren and Gemma. Casey Cardinia Netball Under 17 s Another great day of netball was played by all at Waverly on Sunday having a much stronger competition. Lauren Vardi (Dov) and Megan Dyker (Ber) were named captains for the day. The U17 s played a total of seven games 4 inside which was a change for a lot of the girls having mainly played outdoor netball and 3 games outside. Lucky for everyone the weather was kinder to us this round, being a lovely day. We only had 11 out of our 12 girls for this tournament having one of our girls playing for another rep side, but we did not let that stop us. The sharks got of to a flying start winning by 12 in the first game. The strongest game of the day was played against Waverly City with Danielle Adrian (Beaconsfield) playing in their squad, we knew it was going to be tough and tough it was, Lauren Vardi (Dov) and Stef Hompot (Ber) proved to be a tough defending combination but were just beaten by some accurate goalers assisted by a dominate centre court, Waverly proved to be the bench mark for our competition and won the game and the day convincingly. The next game saw us match up against our equal 2nd on the ladder and it was goal for goal for the first half, having Makalah Greer (Beac) and Kayla Simpson (Dov) proving they were a strong goaling duo helped out by Emily Pratt (Ber) feeding fantastic into both goalers. After some changes at half time they got the lead on us by a few. We kept trying but just couldn t peg back the lead, losing by only a 4. In the final seconds of the game Emily Armstrong (ROC) one of our key defenders was sent to hospital with a suspected broken hand. The rest of the day we had a draw and won the others trying a few different things. We finished 3rd on the ladder which was a great effort from all girls. It was another great day by the U17 sharks. Makalah Greer was TID in this tournament which is fantastic for our league and Beaconsfield. Congratulation girls who got TID Good luck for the future.
