2 Message from the president Welcome to the first edition of our weekly newsletter for the season A special thanks to Lauren who has volunteered to publish the newsletter along with the various team representatives who will be providing much of the reading content. Last week we fired up our new electronic scoreboard for the first time in an actual game. Although the score itself was not a pleasing site, the ability for the scores to be readable from all areas of the ground is a great improvement. As is always the case, using new technology first up always presents its challenges and this was no exception. After a shaky start and a few bumps along the way we seemed to have it under control. Thanks to Jan Prib and Daniel Morland for their technical support on the day. The new scoreboard did not just happen and it was only with the tireless support of our local Councilors Peter Brown and Roz Blades that this became a reality. On behalf of the Club I'd like to thank both Peter and Roz for all their efforts. Senior Football Report The Seniors took on Narre Warren at home at Rowley Allen Oval. In what was a better effort than the previous week, the boys started well and kept in touch at both the quarter and half time breaks. In the third quarter a couple of early goals had them within 4 goals. A promising start but with a disappointing last quarter Narre kicked away to a very strong win. We have the confidence to play well; we now have to have better stamina to finish our good work. Reserves Football Report Our Reserves played a very good Narre team and battled all day. They started off well and had a crack, showing in patches they are capable of playing good football and playing to our structures. No doubt as we go on we will put whole games together and bring home success. We can see the teamwork improving with each training session and game. Getting to training and working our butts off is the key. In the best were Vinnie, Brad, Dom, Ando, Bowser and Calum. Best on the day were Mick Downie, Chooka Hoskins, Bryce, Corey W, Wellsy and J Mac. In the multiple goals were both Chooka and Moose. 2

3 Women s Football Report On Saturday morning, Keysborough took a lovely drive out to Chirnside Park to take on a team that had recruited all new coaching and development staff for season Keysborough didn t know what to expect and only had one thing in common both sides coming off a win from previous round. By Saturday evening Keysborough was on top of the Ladder 3 wins from 3 starts this season. Keysborough s messy affair in the first quarter looked like Chirnside had come to play and put pressure on right from the start. It took until the second quarter for that to be resolved. Keysborough had finally composed themselves to keep Chirnside with no more goals for the rest of the match. In that Keysborough had rumbled Chirnside Panthers and kicked thirteen goals keeping Chirnside with only 3 behinds in 2 of the 3 quarters to go. Keysborough swarmed over Chirnside with Jaimee Lambert kicking 7 goals for the round and a personal best. The Keysborough Burras bullied the Chirnside Panthers in a brutal manner, denying them the ball. Worse still the Panthers had only gone inside-50 three times in the last quarter and Leah Lavelle who will play her 100 th game this week sent it straight back out. Numbers were sweeping across the entire ground intercepting marks and setting up the play was impressive. Coach Natty Cardamone has been pleased with the girls this year so far. It s only round three, we have a long way to go, our skills and fitness are in synergy and we will build on that. We are hungry for success this year. It was a great team effort & that in itself means a lot. Everyone has a role to play and all did their job this weekend for a good win. Keysborough will take on Hallam this week and once again we hope to keep them scoreless. Netball Reports Back in familiar territory the Burra Babes were pumped for their first home game for the year. C Grade - Having a couple of players out and still a full bench the C Grade girls took the court in the hope of getting a win for their first home game of the year. The girls got off to a good start but by the end of the first half they were chasing a 16 goal turn around. Triskits stood out in the ring popping in shots from everywhere, although we were no match for Narre going down with a 36 goal loss. Time to talk team tactics! B Grade - Laura Cannons! Super star B grade player was on fire on Saturday showing off her amazing skills, plus Lovey and Sarah Vella in defense it was a great line up making Narre work for the ball. Having some great feeding from Pants, the Vieceli sisters definitely made a difference. After being up at half time and only down by 1 in the third quarter the girls definitely put up a great fight going down by only 5 goals to last year premiers. These Burra Babes put up a tremendous fight. 3

4 SATURDAY 20TH APRIL 2013 A Grade- After last weeks efforts of packing the A grade side there was a last minute call up for Old balls, Lovey, Cannons and Pants who definitely gave it their all. Stepping up in Defense Big Titty Smitty was outstanding working well with defending veteran Sammi D Dizzle and even Burnard gave it a fair crack. The return of our young gun shooter Tarzan definitely made a difference to the side. Holly Bailey and Burnard's mid court team was nearly unstoppable working the ball into the shooters superbly. One great game of netball to watch and the final score definitely doesn't show for the hard work these Hot Rods put in. Unfortunately Narre just got the better of the Burra Babes this time around! Heads are still high so bring on round 3! Anthony Branno Brannan to play his 100th Game! After a successful juniors career and stint at Noble Park, Anthony Branno Brannan pulled on the Burra s jersey in 2007 and has never looked back! He became instantly one of the family and has stepped up through his career into a well respected leader around the club. Not only is he known for his leadership qualities on the field but in the social rooms Branno is well known for his easy going, fun loving personality. One of Branno s most favorable moments on the field was in the 2008 prelim final. It would be the goal he kicked that got the Burra s across the line and into the Grand Final. In 2011 he shared the honor of Best and Fairest winner at the club and continues to play with passion and pride for the team mates he loves and the club he wants to see succeed in Off the field Branno is a sports educator at a local Secondary College. He devotes lots of his time to steering youth out of trouble and into his successful Rugby team. So successful he would find himself coaching at State Finals. Two weeks ago he married his best friend, Lyn and although enjoyed his honeymoon, he can be found posting on facebook for the Burra football scores! We hope that all our club members and supporters will help us celebrate such a big achievement, 100 games to Number 22, Anthony Branno Brannan. 4
