The Home Depot NFL Youth Coach of the Year award, now in its eleventh year, is designed to recognize community or high school level coaches across Canada who dedicate themselves to the development of young players both on and off the field. Over the past ten years the program has contributed more than $130,000 in equipment and facility upgrades to deserving programs. For the first time, any Canadian can nominate a coach for recognition. In past years only Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) football players were eligible to submit nominations. Acting as spokesman for the program in 2009 is Brian Billick, coach of the Super Bowl XXXV Champion Baltimore Ravens. Youth football coaches are some of the hardest working volunteers out there, said Billick. This program is our way of saying thank you to these leaders of young men and women. Beginning on October 1, 2009, a public service announcement featuring Billick and encouraging Canadians to nominate a local coach will air during NFL broadcasts on CTV, TSN and Rogers Sportsnet. Canadians can nominate a coach by visiting 6-A-SIDE Football scheduled to hit the Kamloops First Nation Community in British Columbia. Kam is going to run from Saskatoon to Regina on October 21st 2009 I start at Potash Corp Field in Saskatoon, I will then pick up the game ball for the October 24 th game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the BC Lions, then its off to the races. I will then run with the ball from Saskatoon to Regina to deliver the game ball. Just in case you are not familiar with the distance from Saskatoon to Regina it is 257km from the 50 yards line at Potash Corp Field to the 50 Yard Line at Mosaic Stadium. On the way to Regina I will have players from minor football teams helping me at certain spots to carry the ball. Each Minor football team will also be raising money for the campaign and the top 10 minor football athlete fundraisers will get tickets to see the game on the 24 th and have access to the dressing room after to meet the players. How can you Help? Through the Loonie for Saskatchewan Minor Football Campaign all we ask is you circulate this around through your work place and maybe even to your friends outside your work place. Our goal is to reach 100,000 people with this message and have 100,000 people donate a Loonie which would get us to our goal of $100,000. All the funds go to Saskatchewan Minor Football. Other Ways to Help: We can set up a deposit box at your workplace to collect the loonies, the minimum donation is a Loonie but if people want to give more than a Looine we are not going to turn it away.
