1 Friday 29 January 2016 Applying For University Upcoming Events Monday 1 February Lake Garda Sports Tour Parents' Information Evening Tuesday 2 February Parents Forum With the application for my course, Primary Education, it is compulsory that you attend an interview before you receive an offer. I was lucky enough to get an invitation for an interview from all 5 of my university choices and then receiving an offer from all 5 as well. Over the past 6 weeks, I have travelled from the most eastern part of England to the most western. Despite every University's interview process differing, they all followed a similar programme, consisting of a half an hour test in English and Maths, followed by either a group presentation or an individual presentation and then finally a one-to-one (sometimes even paired) interview. The most useful thing I discovered when preparing for my interview was wider reading around the subject, for me this was education, therefore I ensured I was up to date with all the issues and current events in education today, and slipping these bits of knowledge into my answers. Despite the website The Student Room giving you a set list of questions from each university, I wouldn't rely on these as they develop and change the questions according to your personal statement, so make sure you've refreshed yourself on what you've written. My main advice, which at first even I didn't follow, is to stay calm. The interviewers are not there to give you trick questions, they want you to do well and ultimately if they've invited you to an interview, they want to offer you a place. Rebecca Poole Deputy Headteacher Quick Thinking Elise Comes To The Rescue Elise Busset, one of our Year 10 student, had to react quickly when she noticed a small puppy near the school, on Tuesday. She became really concerned when the puppy crossed the road on its own. The puppy, only 13 weeks old, had become temporarily separated from her owner (who was frantically searching for her, of course). Elise picked up the puppy to make sure she came to no harm, and took her to a local vets. They were able to scan her microchip, and re-unite her with her worried owner in a very short time. The owner very kindly wrote to the school to thanks Elise, and invited her to visit the puppy, whose name is Elsie. Fhiona Shaw Deputy Headteacher

Teddington School Girls Football On the Thursday 28 January, fourteen girls went to represent Teddington School in an U13 football match against Convent.

3 Teddington School Girls Football On the Thursday 28 January, fourteen girls went to represent Teddington School in an U13 football match against Convent. A win would take us to the quarter finals of the cup. Teddington School got off to a great start; passing well, keeping possession and commanding the midfield when, after 10 minutes, Charlotte Flood received a pinpoint pass from Holly Morgan on the left wing and shot through the goalkeepers legs to hit the back of the net. 1-0 for Teddington School! After a restart, we continued to control the game with good possession until half-time. Teddington School had some good shots on target; Phoebe, Sadie and Holly both had good attempts but nobody could convert so the half ended with a score of 1-0. Nobody knows what the Covent s manager said during the half time, but they came out battling and scored two goals within the first five minutes of the second half. Teddington School was 2-1 down after being in control of the first half. We were battling against the odds as what seemed to be the whole of the host school came out of lunch to support their team. But is wasn t long before our determination put us back in the game. The ball came out of defence and Molly Lavin picked it up on the half was line. She turned, saw an opportunity and shot. Their goal keeper made a great attempt but she was beaten and the ball curled into the top right corner for a score of 2-2. In the last 15 minutes of regular time, the play became much more intense, both physically and verbally as Convent realised they had lost their advantage. We held our nerve and saw out the half without anymore goals. 2-2 at full time. The teams then played another seven minutes extra time to try to resolve the deadlock. The teams had a short break before extra time started to Ms Phillips, Teddington School s excellent manager, took advantage of the break to give the girls a pep talk. You ve improved to much, you ve done so well to get this far, get out there and enjoy yourselves!. Thanks to her we did just that. Within three minutes, we had won a rare free kick outside the penalty area. Molly Lavin walked up, took the free kick and the ball sailed around the wall, beating their goalkeeper, to give Teddington School the well earned advantage. A minute later, Molly Lavin slotted an excellent pass out to Phoebe Head, who destroyed the defences skilling up a defender and finding herself on her own, rolled the ball over the line past a bewildered keeper. After switching ends for the second half of extra time, our improved fitness really began to pay off. Convent were exhausted and Abi Avery took full advantage of this in the last 20 seconds, scoring a powerful goal in the bottom left corner to make it 5-2. A convincing and well deserved win. Overall all the girls made an excellent effort, especially given the number of injuries they picked up during the match. Holy Morgan was awarded man of the match as she kept going when Convent made inappropriate comments towards her. Well done, Holly! Well done, Teddington School! Onwards to the quarter finals! The School Goes Back To The 80s Next Week! This week, the school has been awash with pastel shades, rah rah skirts, electronic music and Rubik s Cubes.

Every night the school atrium is full of those catchy songs we, of a certain age, remember from our youth.

The 80s are definitely back in fashion at Teddington School! This year the aim of the school production was to fully represent the school values and the way we work.

4 The School Goes Back To The 80s Next Week! This week, the school has been awash with pastel shades, rah rah skirts, electronic music and Rubik s Cubes. Final rehearsals for the School Production have taken over the school. We are in a complete time warp of Top Gun, Madonna and arcade games. Every night the school atrium is full of those catchy songs we, of a certain age, remember from our youth. School staff can be found humming along to You Give Love a Bad Name and Video Killed the Radio Star. What has been really great is to see how much our young people love the songs too. The 80s are definitely back in fashion at Teddington School! This year the aim of the school production was to fully represent the school values and the way we work. So, the principles are that it is a production where all the year groups can work together and it is open to all students no matter how experienced or talented they are, and that all stage sets, music and production are created by the students. It has been a real joy to see the students work together with their teachers to bring the show together. Staff and students have given generously of their time and will be in school all weekend too to make sure that when The 80s hits Teddington School Theatre next week the audience will have a great time. Cucina News The Food Cube in the outside area is now open, making it another great location for our students to purchase hot and cold snacks as well as drinks at break time and lunch time.

5 Cucina News The Food Cube in the outside area is now open, making it another great location for our students to purchase hot and cold snacks as well as drinks at break time and lunch time. Its aim is to reduce the queuing and congestion at the other food areas around the school, giving our students access to the food in a quick and easy manner. Most of the firm favourites (various sandwiches, pastries and buns) are currently available at the Food Cube. Cucina has also approached the Student Food Council, asking for suggestions as to what food they would like to see there in the future. This is the opening part of Cucina's continued investment in providing the best service and delivery in Teddington School.
