1 CEO Talk Hi and welcome to September! Whilst it is coming to the end of the football season for the club, we are excited to see the cricket club starting to come together for training and the recruitment of junior players for the new season. We look forward to seeing all cricket club members enjoying our wonderful facilities over the coming months. I would like to formally welcome 2 new chefs into our kitchen. Tajender Bindra (Lucky) is our new Head Chef and Le Tinh Pham (Kevin) is the new Chef de Partie. Lucky & Kevin have many years of experience having worked in the hospitality industry for a combined 17 years. They bring a variety of knowledge on cuisine to our Sports Club. I hope you will join me in making them feel welcome. There will be some exciting new menu items coming soon, so look out for advertising within the club shortly. Unfortunately we see John Costea leave us as our previous Chef De Partie. John has worked at the Sports Club for over 2 1/2 years and we thank him for his commitment and hard work over this time. John is excited to be embarking on a new position at another restaurant and we wish John all the best with this new challenge. We look forward to seeing John at the club in the future when he pays us a visit. Congratulations to Chantelle Law who has finally had her baby. A picture and details are on page 2. Apparently Chantelle had her bub in 2 1/2 hours and then went home shortly after like it was no big deal!! Some woman are just amazing. We wish Chantelle and her family all the best with this new edition! One of our Director s Harry Schulz recently celebrated his 65th birthday. We have a few pictures on page 2 from Harry s party which was held in the Club s bistro, a great place to hold your next function! The Club has purchased a 120inch screen projector to use for special events. We will be hosting the AFL Grand on Saturday 28th September and hope to see as many members and supporters at the Club to join us on this day. Finger food will be offered throughout the day. As l mentioned above, it is the end of the football season and l would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the teams for making it to the finals. Thanks to Ian Denny for all his hard work and dedication as senior coach. Ian is stepping down as coach for next year and we hope to see Ian at the club in some capacity in the future. On a good note, Vern Ryan has (reluctantly) agreed to stay on as the Football Club President. Vern works tirelessly for the football club and will be making sure to receive further support from the committee next year so we can be even more successful on and off the field. Thanks again Vern! Cheers, John French Club News New Chefs in the house! 5 Football News Presidents Report Hi to all St Albans Supporters, A brief look at our season so far, we still have 2 games pending as both the U18 & Reserves teams have made it to the Preliminary s which will be played this Saturday 7th September. I wish both teams all the best with these games. Our Junior teams had a good year. Our U10 s team built up a great squad. They started the season with only 7 players and ended the season with 23. Great work not only by Michael & Nick Brown (Auskick) but also all the parents. Thanks to Nick Brown for all his hard work with the Auskick kids, we look forward to even more recruits next year. Our U13 team made it to the Grand for the first time with Charles Grech & Shaun Pearce doing a fantastic job coaching. These boys have been beaten on the scoreboard for years, so they deserved their chance to play finals footy this year. They came runners up but we are proud of them nonetheless. Well done boys! Our Youth Girl s team played in the Grand and came Runner s Up also. I know they will be disappointed with this result, but well done to the girls for getting this far. Thanks to Irene Floros who started the season as our Junior Coordinator. Irene worked tirelessly for the Junior teams, but unfortunately had to leave during the year for personal reasons. Irene was replaced by Nick Schneider who did a wonderful job as her replacement and we thank both Irene and Nick for giving us their time and commitment for this busy role. The U15 team had a tough year playing out of their age group. This should be rectified with the balance of even teams next year. Thanks to Paul Mifsud for trying his best to give these boys a game of footy under these trying circumstances. Our U16 team also made it to the finals but was unable to capitalise on this moment. They were runner s up, but l believe they all had a great year with much stability in the team. This was due to the hard work created by Damien and his assistant Perky. Great work boys, let s make it one better next year! Our Senior team lost in their Elimination final against Altona. Yes this was a disappointing result, but Ian, Rob & Marcus have put together a very good squad with their recruiting, and the U18 players who came up to help the team when they needed players also stepped up and played well. In saying that we should have performed better in the final game because on paper we looked like a very good team. So no excuses will be made. The In s and Outs for the year hurt the club in crucial times, but when you can t put together a full squad each week for the season it takes it s toll. Our coaches did the best they could with what they had and that s all we can ask of them. For the U18 players who did step up and play senior footy this year, we are proud of the way you conducted yourself on and off the field and hope you enjoyed your footy. The top rewards will be coming sooner rather than later if you keep up this good work. As you may be aware, Ian Denny is stepping down as Senior coach. The last 4 seasons under Ian has made this football club a much better one. His guidance to all footballer s from the U10 s to Seniors and the Woman s teams was invaluable. His input into all aspects of the club was taken on board, not just by myself but by all supporter s, players and sponsors too. Ian gives more of himself than he receives and we thank you again Ian for all your hard work, commitment and support! Maybe all is not lost when things settle down, Ian could still have a role at the Club. Thanks everyone for your support this year. Sadly for some of you l will still be President next year but l hope we can go one step further in making this club better than ever. Cheers Vern Ryan September 2013

6 Football News COACHES WANTED 2014 SEASON The St Albans Football Club is currently seeking coaches for the 2014 season. Search for St Albans Football Club and press like to join. Results for August Coaches Report Hi supporters & sponsors of St Albans, On Sunday we ventured out to Avalon oval in Werribee to take on Altona in the elimination final; having beaten twice during the home & away season we were very confident that we could complete the hatrick; in perfect conditions the game started with Altona gaining an early breakthrough kicking the first 3 goals of the game before we steadied to get one back. It was a typical finals type game where the ball carrier was under extreme pressure from the their opponent and this was going to be the difference between the teams as to who would be able to absorb that pressure. The second quarter started similar with both teams scoring a goal before we had one disallowed; this appeared to rattle our guys a bit and Altona put on some late goals to take a 5 goal lead into half time. The third quarter was very even as both sides scored although we seemed to have to work harder for ours as they constantly hit their forwards lace out. The last quarter started with us still 5 goals down but with some hope if we could get on the board early but it was Altona who scored first and our players seemed to fall away after that; as it turned out Altona ran away with an emphatic victory and all accolades must go to them. We had enough of the ball but failed to hit targets on a constant basis where they hit every target on the day. Our reserve & under 18 team are still in finals contention so please continue to support them over the coming weeks. I would like to thank you all for your continued support of the club; without you clubs are not successful as it takes a lot of cash to run one these days. This will be my last newsletter for this season & beyond as I have stepped down as coach. I wish you, your businesses & the club all the success in the future and look forward to catch up with you at some stage. 10 September 2013 Golf News It was a bad day for those 15 brave Hookers & Slicers that took on the blistering winds and tuff greens out at Point Lonsdale. Winner of the day with a brilliant score of 37 stableford points was Bill Vella well done Bill glad you knock off Danny Wild which came in with 32 stableford points. Malta would like to thank Andrew Millo for yet again winning another ball marker for him, this is starting to get really boring now might need to step up the competition with someone with a little bit more skills then young Millo. Nick Gia and Mitch both went to Malta with his ball marker! the toilet together. Mitch was walking towards the sink to wash his hands when he sees Nick using the Sun Screen as hand wash, to no surprise Nick says to Mitch this stuff feels like sun screen not hand wash. Mitch replied put your glasses Nick Gia and his sun cream evidence back on and read the bottle you clown. Nick tried to convince Mitch not to say anything so while Nick cleans himself up what does Mitch do? Yes you guess it, tells everyone. Great laugh on Nicks behalf. We have a new Naga next month - Michael Kwiecinski. He will have to wear the pink shirt as well as use a pink golf ball. He nearly got away with the pink shirt until he opened his mouth and told Danny that he thinks he scored his card wrong and tried to bargain with Danny not to go to the Pro shop and double check. After checking his card he was correct. He did win the Naga on count back.this will be a pleasure to watch Mick play in pink. He is telling everyone now that pinks suits him! Next game is at Heathcote on 22/09/2013 tee off at 8.30am playing Stroke & Matchplay September 2013
