1 Issue No 6 13 th October 2017 Trinity Sixth Form Open Evening We are delighted to inform you that our first Sixth Form Open Evening will take place on Tuesday 17 th October from 5.00pm 7.30pm. This is an exciting time in the growth of Trinity School as well as a milestone in our students progress towards their future aspirations. Our sixth form offer has been carefully selected to meet the needs of our students, preparing for success at university and the world of work. Parking will be available on site. Our expert teachers, who collectively have many decades of A level teaching experience, will be available to discuss the details and expectations of each course. In particular, what it takes to succeed in their subject in the sixth form. There will also be a presentation in the main hall at 5.30pm and 6.30pm that will cover the programme of study available, how to select subjects, what life will be like for a student at Trinity in the sixth form, and the application process. Although this event is aimed at parents and students from year 11, there is lots of information on the sixth form on our school website. Do take a look as there is lots about our plans for sixth form that we are very proud of. To the parents of year 11 students, we look forward to seeing you next week. Invigilators We are looking to staff our exams team for the summer exams. The exam season runs from 14 th May to 22 nd June (with half term in the middle). Training will be provided. Please spread the word and ask any interested parties to contact the school. This is an excellent fit for recently retired people, university students in their holidays or anyone else who finds themselves with some spare time next summer. Music Trinity School's Music Department is delighted to receive the gift of a piano which belonged to and was played by Miss Constance Cox the late Great Aunt of Patrick Cox, in Year 10. Connie Cox was a vibrant character whose formal education was cut short at the age of 11 in 1928 when she contracted polio. Through this life changing experience she became a Christian and all through her life prayed for her family and friends. Her quest for knowledge did not stop at 11 though and she was self-taught in a broad range of subjects. She had a large collection of sheet music of many genres and she would have been very happy and excited to know her piano had a new home at an amazing new School with a Christian ethos. For the Music department this means all music practice rooms now have their own piano to facilitate more student rehearsal and practise, and to support our fantastic piano teachers. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God s law. James 4:11 This week I spoke in worship about how quickly we notice the differences between ourselves and others much quicker than we notice similarities. The judgements we make about other people can be harmful and so students have been reflecting on how we treat others and how to celebrate diversity. It has been wonderful to hear some of their thoughts and I look forward to hearing more! Giving thanks for: The exciting plans we have for the year ahead God s word in the book of James and the chances we have to discuss it together Praying for: Our sixth form open evening and all the preparations for our first sixth form God s guidance, wisdom and discernment in all that we do Many thanks and God bless, Alice

7 What is counselling? The opportunity to talk about things that are of concern to a child or young person in confidence with a qualified counsellor. What is spoken about will depend on the individual but common themes are stress, relationships, change, loss and distressing or traumatic events. What does a counsellor do? How long will counselling last? Counselling may be for about 6 weekly sessions but can be extended. This can be reviewed between the counsellor and the child or young person. Where and when does it take place? A private room is used at YMCA Tower House, Vale Rise, Tonbridge TN9 1TB. Map at Sessions last 40 minutes. How much does a session cost? First appointment FREE, then sessions cost up to 30 - depending on circumstances. Is it confidential? A key feature of our service is that information discussed in the counselling session is treated confidentially. Counselling is a time when it s OK to talk about concerns without fear of them being discussed elsewhere. This includes not discussing anything with parents, unless the child or young person requests or gives consent for this. This can be hard for parents to accept at times, but ensuring confidentiality of our work is crucial to establish trust so children and young people feel confident to speak openly and freely about what is concerning them. However, if a client appears to be at risk of significant harm it may be appropriate to seek help from other agencies to keep them safe. The counsellor would aim to discuss this first with the client concerned. The counsellor receives regular supervision of his/her work to ensure quality of their practice - and this is also confidential. Tel confidential voic leave your details talk2us@westkentymca.org.uk
