1 Top of the mountain, top results. Issue th September 2013 What s On TERM THREE Thursday 12th September Last day of Premier s Reading Challenge Thursday 19th September Grade 5 Production News and Views... Grade 6 Production A Hit! Well done to our fantastic grade 6 students who performed beautifully in this year s production Making Contact. The production was written and directed by the very talented Miss Rosie Brehaut. It told the story of alien visitors who upon arrival in Metropolis were discriminated against and locked up even though they came with a message of peace. It took a group of open minded and brave children to make contact and discover the peaceful and helpful purpose for the intergalactic visit. We were absolutely blown away by the calibre of Making Contact and wish to thank all those involved. Our appreciation goes to the wonderful and dedicated team of volunteers and staff that ensured that our grade 6 students were able to make the most out of this exciting opportunity. Book Fair Thanks to the great efforts of Cheryl Sinclair and Sue Gibson this year s Book Fair was a resounding success. We sold over $4000 worth of Book Fair products which entitled Mt Dandy to $1500 of reading resources for classroom use. Thank you to the many community members who supported this year s Book Fair. Election Day Sausage Sizzle Thanks to the many donations of cakes along with Bills of Belgrave Butcher s kind donation of delicious sausages and Roger Phillips magnificent coffee our hard working Fundraising Committee raised over $1, Thank you to Kylie Gilson and her committed team for organising such a wonderful fundraiser. This money will be put towards the purchase of a bike rack. Please be sure to visit Bills and thank him for his kind donation. MDPS Community Footy Tipping Competition Results After leading the competition for the whole season, former student Nathan H, managed to hang on by a solitary game to win the competition on an impressive 150 correct tips, despite my best efforts I could not peg him back and finished in second place. For his efforts Nathan received a $50 Kmart voucher. Gabriel F finished strongly in third place and gets a $10 voucher for his excellent tipping. We will do it all again next year. What s in this issue? News and Views 1&2 School Sub Committees 2 Mind and Maths Matter 2 OSHClub 3 Art News 4 Canteen Menu 4 OSHClub Movie Night 4 Grade 6 Major Production 5 August Birthdays 6 Footy Colours Day Thanks to Bon S in grade 1 we are having a Footy Colours Day. Bon s initiative includes wearing your favourite teams colours, AFL or otherwise, and having a special treat lunch of footy food. Each student who makes a $2 donation on the day will go into the draw to win a genuine leather Sherrin football. Proceeds from the donations and the canteen will be used to support our World Vision sponsor child Tillahun and also to send sports equipment to Vanuatu for underprivileged communities. Footy Day Lunch orders close this Friday late orders will not be accepted. Have a Great Time Julie Julie Francis is off to Western Australia for a long service leave break to enjoy the warmer climates and sights and sounds of Broome. We wish her well for what is a well-deserved break. Julie will be replaced by Julienne Hyams who worked here for a 6 week period in Please make Julienne welcome. Maths Game 0s and Xs with a difference This is good old fashioned noughts and crosses but the two players are not able to look at the board or write on it! 3 players needed Player one draws up a grid like this A B C Players 2 and 3 then have a quick look at the grid, then turn their backs and take turns to request grid positions. E.g B1. Play continues until a player gets 3 in a row. This player then play against player one. This is a good strategy and memory game!!!
