5 Club Notes Frankston YCW The 2009 Grand Finals are here and another season is about to complete itself and thus time for a little reflection!! Our Colts took out the Peninsula Colts Premiership, our Seniors just missed out on another Grand Final appearance by a 4 points, and our Reserves and Under 18`s finishing Minor Premiers, a great effort and well deserved by all involved. Not a bad years work by anyone s standards, but our success this year will also be determined by how we perform today in the Under 18 and Reserve Grand finals. Coach Mather s boys are undefeated this year and intend to keep it that way in yet another hit out against perennial foe Mornington, whilst Coach Schneider has his boys peaked and roaring to go against Seaford in the grand final. One thing is certain about these two teams and that is that they both never give up and will give their all in bringing 2 more flags home to Jubilee Park. The Club congratulates Scott, Nick and all the boys in making it this far and wishes them success in their games today. These teams would never get out on to the field, let alone have the success they have had but for the little band of helpers that turn up time after time, week in week out to help with all the onerous tasks that are involved in getting everybody to the bounce of the ball and keeping them there. Kudos must therefore go to (and apologies to anyone I miss out) John Goble and his trainers and masseuses, the Team Managers, Col Carey, Allan Hardstone, Denise Swales & Ross Booth for a thankless job well done, the Committee members who manned the various facilities over the season, particularly the Beer Tents over the finals and to Gay and those who kept us fed on a Thursday night. Gold plated kudos should also go to the little band of men and women who go about their duties generally unsung and unknown, but for whom, we would never have a game. Therefore to all those Timekeepers, Interchange Stewards and match day officials and assistants who may have waved the flags or filled the water bottles thank you. In particular the Club wishes to thank, John Robertson (Timekeeper), Michael Clancy (Interchange), Pat Strickland (Stats) and David Lee who helped our Senior teams this year on match days. To all our Sponsors, without whose support, we would not be able to function, go our sincere thanks for your continued assistance.. Go the Stonecats and see you in 2010!! On this Rock Since 1908 MPNFL 37

Four Dandenong Stingrays players, Ryan Bastinac, Tom Scully, Levi Casboult and Luke Parker were named in the TAC Cup team of the year last night at the Morrish medal awards night. Ryan Bastinac was named on a Wing following a fine season both with the Stingrays and for Vic Country. Bastinac has the ability to play as an inside mid fielder as well as outside the centre square as he can win his own ball in 1 v1 contests and well as reading the play and getting on the end of attacking moves. Tom Scully was named as the Ruck Rover of the team as he has continued to play at a high standard in the TAC Cup and the AFL Under 18 nationals. Named as an All Australian Under 18 for the second year running, Tom has returned to the Stingrays fold where he has led by example with his professionalism, desire and work rate never questioned only adding to his skills and game knowledge. Levi Casboult and Luke Parker were both named on the interchange and both have had excellent TAC Cup seasons. Both appear in the top 10 for the TAC Cup in many statistical areas. Casboult contested marks (1st), Goals (4th) Hit Outs to advantage (4th) Hit Outs (5th) and total marks (6th). Parker Contested possessions (2nd) Hard ball gets (3rd) Goals (5th), total marks (6th) and hand balls (8th) and both are worthy inclusions in the TAC Cup Team of the Year. Stingrays win another TAC driver innovation award The Dandenong Stingrays were awarded a special commendation of the TAC driver education innovation award at the Morrish Medal awards night last weekend. The Stingrays completed a number of programs all designed around maximizing Learner driving opportunities and encouraging Learner and Probationary licence holders to make responsible decisions when driving. The Stingrays TAC Cup and Under 16 players with Learners permits drove to and from their away game against Gippsland Power at Morwell in Round 1 of the TAC Cup this year which gave all players a couple of hours of vital driving practice on unfamiliar roads. Another program was a short DVD filmed, edited and produced by Stingrays player Mitch Drummond and starring Stingray players Darcy Holden and James Hallahan and parent Mark Amalfi where they acted out a scenario around making smart decisions when it comes to drinking and driving. On behalf of all the TAC Cup regions, Gippsland Power Region Manager Peter Francis thanked the TAC for the awards and made special mention of the parents of all the TAC Cup players for their support of the L120 message and their reinforcing of the message of safe driving to their sons. 17 Frankston Park Pup keen to play ball doesn t know what will come next in his football career, but he knows what he has learned in the last three years will hold him in good stead. A Crib Point junior who played more than 100 games at the club, Clark was invited to play for Dandenong Stingrays and says he has undergone a steep learning curve ever since. It was a huge step up for me, going from Crib Point to the Stingrays and then the Dolphins in basically two years. That was a massive step. A private man, Clark has quietly made a winner of every step along the way, being selected to represent Vic Metro at the 2006 U18 National Championships, and then working his way into the Dolphins senior team in the second half of 2007 and becoming the side s main target at full forward. Come 2008, then coach Brett Lovett tried to move Clark up to centre half forward, a position Pup found hard to learn in the intense environment of the VFL, and found himself back in the reserves midway through the season. But before finals time, Clark s hard work saw him back into the full forward position, and he produced an outstanding finish to the year, booting multiple goals against the toughest of opposition and drawing attention from some AFL scouts. That first year (at Dolphins) was just a huge learning curve to me, he said. But that finals series (2008) was probably the best experience of mf my football life, maybe except for representing Victoria. The Dolphins were the story of the finals, and dragged huge support from the peninsula up to the games at Port Melbourne. They were my first ever finals, so that was great in itself. But the finals atmosphere and the crowd was just amazing - I didn t expect it to be so good. For various reasons, mostly outside his control, Clark did not play a senior game in 2009, despite the club struggling to kick goals all throughout the season. Like many players, the 21 year old is waiting to see the direction the club takes before committing for next year. Luke Clark I would really like to stay, I love the place, he said. But I am not really too sure at the moment, we ll see what happens. While that is still up in the air, Clark has no doubt that he is a much more complete player and person than the one who first ventured to Frankston Park. I really learned a lot from Brett Lovett in the time he was there, he said. My leadership probably isn t as good as some of the older blokes at the club, but I have really improved that area. Especially in terms of speaking to guys one-onone, that s become a strength. When I go back to Crib Point guys there look up to me, which is great. If I can help other guys play better footy from me being around and helping out that would mean a lot. Want to have a bet on the Premiership of your favourite Peninsula FL team? 24 Nepean in Review Live Forever In the last quarter in the Nepean Division Grand Final between Frankston Bombers and Sorrento last weekend, Bombers coach Tony Blackford turned to the time clock and had yet another glance at the time remaining. His side was four goals in front and his full back all season Jeremy Waixel had just kicked his first goal. It was at that stage that Blackers looked across to the 3RPP commentary box, gave a very satisfied grin and pumped his fist. A couple of minutes later, tears began to roll down his cheeks as his charges came from the field, the massive and parochial crowd cheering them off as they continued their rotations. They were embracing their leader on the boundary line, knowing that they were about to experience the ultimate dream being part of a premiership. It was the realization of a dream for many. Frankston Bombers fans have done it tough in grand finals so have the hardworking committee and the players, while partners are there to pick up the pieces. Their previous three grand final appearances all resulted in losses. Frankston Bombers needed a change culturally and list-wise. They needed a strong and committed group of off-field leaders who would sing from the same hymn book as the coaching team and playing group. MPNFL legend Chris Bull and Frankston Bombers lifeblood Chris Batty Sharman took the place by the scruff of the neck and went after the man they believed could bring the club that elusive premiership. Tony Blackford had been there once before as coach and couldn t bring home the bacon in the early 2000 s, losing to Mt Eliza in the Grand Final. It burned deep inside of him. Blackers was a favorite son, a premiership player in the same year as he won the league medal. It was the Bombers last flag. He won a flag as playing-coach at Berwick and Sorrento, worked under Brett Lovett at Frankston Dolphins for three years and had the utmost respect of the entire football community. Things needed to be done differently and the group that had led the Bombers on their previous journeys were not necessarily the same ones that could lead them to where they wanted to be in As a result, the Bombers lost some players (and supporters) along the way. There was plenty of work being done behind the scenes, the Bombers forming long-term ties with Frankston Rovers, which was a massive step for both clubs. On-field, the first two months were tough. With that came the sniping. 56 MPNFL Since 1908 The coach was being questioned. Could he communicate with the players? Was his game style conducive to local football? Were the recruits to the club disruptive to the existing list? The list eventually sorted itself out, players walked, game plans were tweaked, players took ownership and the Bombers were eventually up and running by May 28 against Tyabb. A lot of players were given an opportunity this season at Bombers, 39 playing senior football. Eventually, that list was broken down to the 22 that ran out onto the field last Saturday. All wearing premiership medals around their neck for the rest of their lives. The coach, Tony Blackford, and his supportive off-field team, never lost faith in their plan. They knew where they wanted to get the team and were well aware of how to get them there. People questioned Frankston Bombers tough six weeks leading into the grand final and the extra hard training they had endured in preparation. Were they going to burn out? It was all part of the ultimate plan to have 22 players, a coaching team, backed by a loyal group of passionate supporters, a hard working committee and supportive wives and girlfriends, celebrating the only real football prize the Premiership. Question the path the Bombers took as much as you like, the prize they have so desperately been screaming out for was finally delivered. In addition, the executive and committee was rewarded for its vision by being awarded Best Administered Club, as well as winning the Club Championship. The Reserves finished runner-up and the Under 18s lost the second semi-final to the eventual premier by 12 points. Premierships are about everyone pulling in the same direction coaches, players, the committee, supporters and their respective partners. The catch cry from the Bombers in the lead-up was Live Forever. The 2009 Premiership will live forever at Frankston Bombers Football Club and everyone involved can take ownership of it. A brilliant job from all involved. In the reserves, Rye played committed, tough football to beat Frankston Bombers comfortably. It was the fourth grand final in five years for the Demons and their second premiership. Kyle Jennings has been a premiership captain, now he is a premiership coach. In the Under 18s, Somerville was clearly the best side in the competition all season, going through the year undefeated. They continued that throughout the finals series, winning the premiership against Red Hill. By Toe Punt

Refer to the following rule in case of a draw in the other finals games In the event of scores being level at the elapsed time, the timekeepers are instructed to sound the siren. The field umpires shall then. a) Direct the goal umpires to consult with each other as to the correct score. Teams are required to stay on the ground until goal umpires confirm scores correct. b) On receiving confirmation that the scores are level instruct both captains that the match shall recommence with the teams kicking to the same end as in the final quarter and that two five minute periods (with time on) shall be played with teams exchanging ends after the first five minute period immediately after the siren sounds. c) Consult both captains as to their readiness to recommence the match. d) Hold the ball aloft to indicate to the timekeepers that the match is about to recommence. e) The timekeeper shall then sound the siren and the match will recommence. f) In the event of scores being level after the two five minute periods, a further two five minute periods (with time on) shall be played with clubs exchanging ends after the first five minute period. This process shall continue until there is a result. Coaches are not permitted to address players at any stage after the three-quarter time interval.
