Some offerings are noted higher; however, sales at the higher levels are limited as demand has turned quiet due to buyer resistance to the higher levels. The undertone remains full steady to firm. European buying interest is rated active and replacement offering from both Central & South America and Asia would indicate a stronger US spot market. Gulf Domestic Shrimp The shellon market continued to exhibit a firmer tone given the sharp increase in fuel prices and severe weather that has cut the number of days at sea. Sellers of domestic PUD s have once again raised their asking prices in an attempt to recoup some of the increases in production costs. PUD s & PTO s Asian PTO s are limited due to the tariff situation and the market is firm with some offerings noted higher. Central and South American product is limited. However, the undertone is mixed as the AK crab fishery, scheduled to begin tomorrow, may relieve some pressure on this size. In anticipation of overseas production arriving in the coming weeks and the opening of the AK crab fishery some sellers discount small crab from previous levels to stimulate movement of existing inventories. The market is sloppy on small crab. Canadian Snow Crab The market holds steady in quiet trade. Warm Water Tails Brazil and Caribbean tails are reported moving well at listed levels. The undertone is steady. Cold Water Tails Australian tails are full steady to firm. The new season will get underway in November but new season product will not be available until January. 5 Tel Fax SALMON SITUATION Farmed Salmon The Northeast wholefish market is about steady on 68s and 810 lb. fish today while larger fish are full steady to firm as quotations trend higher. This situation appears to be due to a slight increase in demand and the continued limited supply of larger fish on the east coast. Offerings of west coast and Chilean wholefish remain on the market as well. The predominant size in the region continues to be the 810 lb. size. Demand is rated fair to seasonal. European wholefish remain steady at listed levels. The Chilean fillet market continues to be barely steady on the 2 3 and 34 lb. size. The 45 lb. size is weak as quotations trend lower today. 23 lb. fillets are barely steady at listed levels with some lower offerings reported. Demand in the area continues to be quiet for a fully adequate supply. Additionally due to downward pricing pressure from the fresh fillet market, frozen portions also trended lower today. West coast market is full steady with quotations trending higher on most sizes. 14up fish are about steady at our listed levels. This trend appears to be due to the wild salmon season coming to an end in a few weeks. Supplies appear to be adequate for a fair demand as product continues to move at the listed levels for today.
