1 My Golf Mini-Vacation By Jerry Schreck Every year for the past ten years my cousin Marv (more like a brother) and I have gone to South Lake Tahoe and Reno on alternate years for four days to play golf, eat well, solve the world's problems and play at night. We went to Reno this year from August 24th to 27th. We played D'andrea, Wolf Run, and Lake Ridge. D'andrea is a Troon course and in excellent condition, but the greens are unfair. Most of the greens are elevated and on some holes if you are within 100 to 120 yards of the green and hit your approach shot on the front edge of the green or just short of the green, the ball rolls back down to you and maybe past you. Wolf Run is a fun course with lots of challenging holes. Lake Ridge is an old course with the famous elevated tee on the 15th hole and you hit to a green on an island in the middle of a small lake. The view of Reno is great from that tee. Four years ago when we played this hole, it was the weekend of the hot air balloon festival and there were at least 300 to 400 hot air balloons of all different colors, shapes and sizes sitting above downtown Reno. It was an unbelievable site! Next year we are going to go Las Vegas. I wonder if we can find any golf courses there. Besides, what will we do at night time for fun? HOW SWEET IT IS! by Barbara Souza In mid -September I returned to northern Ohio for an extended vacation which not only included visiting with friends and relatives but also attending my high school reunion. This year the reunion committee secured a resort near Cedar Point amusement park called Sawmill Creek. The idea was to give participants from out of town more options for activities and visiting. On Friday night at the pizza party we announced two openings in the golf tournament. George (the class cut-up) said he d play if Carl (former football star would.) Neither had intended to play but with little arm twisting both agreed to rent clubs and buy golf balls and join us. I was particularly happy since up until that time I had been in the last group paired with a classmate¹s husband. There were only 12 of us playing. The first group was four former jocks who were very competitive. The second consisted of two married couples. And the third was my partner and I and George and Carl. I knew we were in for a good time since Carl was a former neighbor and we all had been in school since kindergarten. And I figured I had a good chance to win a prize since there were only three women in the tournament. Carl teed up his first shot with a pink golf ball. (Apparently he is color blind and thought he had bought white balls.) The jokes flew fast and furious after that. Both George and Carl had identical clubs and bags and rode in the same cart. George took a look at his banged up driver and insisted Carl had grabbed the wrong club. Carl played straight man to George s antics. It was like playing with Laurel and Hardy. I laughed so much I spit Coca-Cola through my nose. At the longest to drive hole I was disappointed to see only one marker for everyone. To my surprise I out-drove the guys--thanks to the advantageous tee placement. I was ecstatic as cameras snapped me signing my name to the list. Laughing so much apparently caused me to relax and get lucky. Two classmates accompanied the groups shooting pictures of all the participants. They told us we were more fun to follow since we were so lousy all we could do is laugh at one another and come up with more one-liners and continue razzing Carl about his pink balls. The fifth hole was a short one with water to the right and two sand traps on the left. Most of the guys went over it. The picture takers were down at the green finishing up the group ahead and turning their attention to our hole. I was the last up and took out my three wood since I was afraid of the water and tended to hit this club to the left. I swung and prayed it would shoot down the middle. The ball sailed low between the water and sand and hit the green disappearing over the high point in the middle and rolling down the back side. As we drove toward the hole, the gal shooting pictures started repeating, Oh my God, oh my God. You aced it! I was sure she was making more jokes since I thought the ball had rolled off the green. Imagine my amazement when I bent over the hole and saw that

2 sweet little Noodle at the bottom of the cup. I screamed loud and long and posed for pictures. What a feeling. My only regret is that I didn t play the lottery that day. p.s. Fall in the Foothills By Shirlee Cisneros First, a big THANK YOU to Jackie Flowers for her hard work making all the golf arrangements and pairings. Also, thanks to Ginger Guimarin for handling the money for the golf. We welcomed guests Judy Duval, Lynn Knoll and Sharon Kenyon to the outing and hope they ll be back. It was a fabulous fall-like morning when we faced the fairways at Forest Meadows. Just four miles east of Murphys, nestled among oak, pine and cedar trees, with panoramic vistas of the Sierras, this quaint course challenged us to hit em straight. It was a day for everyone to play regular golf as a warm-up before Sunday golf. After golf, at Sandra Hardy s suggestion, the group lunched in Murphys followed by wine tasting and shopping on Main Street. Later in the evening, some of the players got together at sunset to enjoy a pasta dinner prepared by Robin Lewis and Judy Duval. Thanks ladies - it was great! Also, Robin introduced us to Mexican Train -- a domino game. Warren was really proud of how long his train was and Will was blowing his whistle a lot too! After feasting on a delicious breakfast casserole prepared by Bonnie Rye, a perfect golf day greeted us for Sunday morning golf. The group traveled to Angels Camp to play Greenhorn Creek. With lightning fast greens, shouts of oh no and *#^@ were heard echoing through the tree tops after many three putts and sometimes more! A best ball competition was the game for the day. The team of Judy Duval, Jo Johnson and Will Steele was the winning team with a score of 82. Way to go! The team of Bonnie Rye, Jo Briggs and yours truly played flog CTP was played at hole #6. Unfortunately, the gentlemen were shut out for this competition. However, yours truly managed a 17 3 shot followed closely by Jackie Flowers with a 20 shot. So, we shared the $$$!!! Long Drive was played at hole #18. I led the way and got to set the stake; but, it didn t last long. Judy Duval moved the stake and no one else (except that Carol Tolan came close) could advance it and Judy took the winnings. Great drive Judy! Unfortunately, I have to be repetitive for the guys next time bring a weed whacker. It was a wonderful weekend outing in the foothills. Hope to see ya ll soon.

4 Newsletter Editor needed for 2007 By Ginger Guimarin As many of you already know, in November, I will be starting a new job within the company that I work for, and this job requires minimum 80 percent travel. So I will be gone a lot and will not have time to do the newsletter next year. Please consider taking on this activity for our chapter. All you need are basic MS Word skills and an hour or so each month to put everything together. The newsletter is ed to ASGA National and they produce the paper newsletter that you receive in the mail each month.
