1 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Sacramento, CA Chapter - American Singles Golf Association August 2011 JULY TRIP TO MARE ISLAND It s tradition for Sacramento Singles to escape the summer heat in our valley by traveling all the way to Mare Island in Vallejo in July. This July was no exception... except that it wasn t all that hot in the Sacramento Valley. But tradition is strong and the benefits were a chance once again to play the old Naval Base, breathe bay air and enjoy the spectacular views. 24 Sacramento Singles signed up for the trip but Dwight, Golf Master, injured his back just before a big and long planned golfing vacation. So Dwight came down to Mare Island just to send the group off. Thanks Dwight. Hope your back is better. That left 23 of us to soldier (or sailor) on. Team 1, minus Dwight, consisted of Sue Bowser, Warren Peacor and Jo Briggs. They teed off right on time. Team 2 was Mike Newby, Patti Mc Reynolds, Ernie Finkbeiner and Von Canale. Team 3 was Mark Natividad, Lavon Hester, Mira Wooten and Lynn Manfree. Mira and Lynn joined our group for the Napa Wine Trip and we are happy to see them again. Welcome to our group. Team 4 consisted of Don Pavlich, Jan Valine, Mel O Neal and Janice Van Gutman. Team 5 was Marty Wiseman, Mel- ody Hayes, Paul Arquette and Carla Zuelhke. Carla s new to Sacramento Singles and she, too, is most welcome. Finally the Team of Karl Winkler, Shirlee Cisneros, John Wardlow and Sue Jeffery brought up the rear and all of the basic information regarding that most important of all subjects... winners and big money recipients. Big Money Team was Team 1, Warren, Sue and Jo with a team score of Team 1 - Sue. Warren & Jo 179. Closest to the Pin winners were Don Pavlich for the men and Janice Van Gutman for the women. Closest to the Pin hole was number 17. Longest Drive on Hole Number 18 was Marty Wiseman for men and Melody Hayes for women. Congratulations to the winners. After distributing all the winnings, the group adjourned to the Wharf Restaurant, across the bridge because, you guessed it, it s tradition. Team 5, Paul, Carla, Melody, Marty Team 6 -John, Shirlee, Sue, Karl Hilsia Souza Hilsia Souza passed away June 25 after a long struggle with breast cancer. Hilsia is the beloved daughter of our good friend and long time member, Barbara Souza. Hilsia lived in San Francisco where she was employed by Hornblower Cruises. A memorial service for Hilsia s Fabulous Life was held on July 16 at Hornblower s in Sacramento. For any Sacramento Singles who wish to make donations in Hilsia s memory, the following organizations are suggested by the family: Barbara s loss is unimaginable and Sacramento Singles wishes to extend Barbara and her family sincerest condolences.

SACRAMENTO ASGA S FALL WEEKEND GOLF EVENT RENO, NV SEPT 9-11 The Sacramento Chapters of ASGA has annually had a fall weekend golf outing, last year cosponsoring a multi-chapter golf outing in Bend, Oregon with the Seattle Chapter. This year we are back on our own and are having the event in Reno over the weekend of September Our host will be the Peppermill Resort and Spa which resently was voted Reno s finest hotel. You will have your choice of a two or three day golf trip with two nights lodging and dinner on Saturday evening at the Peppermill. The event is a package deal and includes lodging, golf, Saturday dinner and hosted cocktail hour and applicable taxes and resort fees. If you choose to only play two days, you can choose which days you wish to play. We will play Red Haw (Private Course) on Friday September 9 th, Red Hawk (public Course) on Saturday, September 10 th and Lakeridge on Sunday, September 11 th. You will be able to choose from four options: All three days, Friday thru Sunday, Play on Friday and Saturday, Play on Saturday and Sunday, or Play on Friday and Sunday. The cost of the packages are as follows: Golf Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Double Occ.) $395 Golf Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Single Occ) $505 Golf any Two Days (Double Occ) $345 Golf any Two Days (Single Occ) $455 taxes. Rooms are available for extra days prior to the event or after the event for $59 plus resort fees and The area can be reached by air by flying into Reno-Tahoe Airport. Nearly every major airline serves this airport. The DEADLINE for signing up for the golf packages is August 1, We will attempt to partner members up if requested, but we can t guarantee that we will have available space. 6 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION AUGUST 2011 Return to the Meadowview Resort Event Date: Thursday, Sept. 1-Sunday, Sept. 4 It s been several years since we held our Labor Day weekend event in Kingsport, TN. Kingsport is geographically located in a part of our country where many members can drive-in from all directions. As a consequence, we re looking for a good-sized crowd of over people. With gas prices the cheapest they ve been in several months, it s time to get with a friend or two and load-up the van. The Marriott Meadowview works perfectly for our group. We ll play Graysburg Hills GC and Crockett s Ridge GC. The standard package price is $379 and includes three nights stay (you ll have a roommate), two rounds of golf, welcoming cocktail party, cookout at Graysburg Hills after the round, two full buffet (hot) breakfasts and a final night dinner at the Marriott. We ll also have a deejay for the first and final nights. If you want to play some additional golf, you can sign-up for day-of-arrival (11am, Sept. 1) golf at the Cattails course at the resort, or the same course for day-of-departure (9am, Sept. 4) for only $30. It s a great rate, however, we ve been told the greens will have been aerated about a week earlier. You re welcome to stay additional nights, so see the registration form for details. In addition, we ll have our 50/50 raffle on our final night and you can pre-pay for those on the registration form as well. Meet More Singles at Multi-Chapter Events ASGA, through its member chapters, offer other events which allow you to meet singles from other chapters. All members are invited and encouraged to attend these Multi-Chapter Events. There s nothing like meeting up with a bunch of other singles for a weekend of golf. Each package is basically the same but there are differences, so we suggest you visit the website for the event. And, if you re chapter s interested in hosting one of these events, prepared to put a lot of work into it. But the reward of having singles play in your city and play your favorite courses is a life experience, well, hopefully! Contact ASGA to clear the date and then get your Board of Directors to give local approval. Then, start putting it together! It s been said that the greatest thing about being a chapter president is that some day, you get to be a past president. I can vouch for that myself having served as a chapter president years ago. Chapters should never become stagnant, that s why our bylaws require a change in leadership once each year. New minds, new ideas. We elect our chapter presidents for 2012 at the October meetings and the committee chairs in November. All new officers take their position effective January 1, leaving ample opportunity do make plans for the upcoming year. What s involved in being a chapter president?
