1 CELEBRATING 16YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Asheville Chapter - American Singles Golf Association May 2009 Chapter News April was a great month for the Asheville Chapter; at our monthly meeting we had a local radio personally in Tom Horan. We then had a great Easter/Master party at Kathy s house (we want to again thank Kathy for hosting this event) and last but not least we had a very beautiful day at Grove Park. In May our monthly meeting we will having Happy from Highland Lakes talking with us also we will be going to Link s of Tyron to play I hope that everyone will be able to make each of these events. Most of you have received the first for Mountain Fall Weekend the 2 nd edition and we have already have registration for this so get your in early. Last year we had a waiting list by late summer so sign up now. And when Hank asks us to help out lets jump at the chance. See you at Lone Star on the 14 th. Golf News No Tiger, no Phil, no Sergio, no Ernie. BUT-19 guys and gals looking for a fun time---and boy did we get it!! The people at The Grove Park Inn were ready and willing to assist us! 77 sunny degrees, light breezes, and a course in good shape. Well, maybe the greens not quite up to snuff-some aeration holes still were there. I didn't hear any complaints though. Scores in our complicated game were good. Andy Anderson had a 77, Cliff Orr had 74, Hank Parish, Maria Han and Ed Younger all had 81's. Teresa Spears had an 82. Five others were in the 90's. 4 of the 5 teams were under par and Linda McCrea net eagled # 7 and 9. Not bad-huh? Maybe this will bring out more golfers for GPI in 2010.(I suggest we play in March or after April so the greens will be in tip top shape.) Now to the Winners: Third place was won by the team of Andy Anderson, Bob Utley, Gloria Andrus and Linda McCrea at 8 under par. Second place was won by Hank Parish, Judy Elmore, Ed Younger and Libby Quinlan at 22 under par. First place was won by Cliff Orr, Maria Han and Teresa Spears, by 1 stroke, at 23 under par. Who says we don't treat our guests from other clubs well!!) 18 of 19 players went to dinner after golf andwow- did I hear some stories--lol!! If you won money at GPI, payoff will be at the meeting- another reason to be there. Other things I'd like to share: we will have Happy Fox, golf professional at Highland Lakes, as our guest at the next meeting on May 14. Social will be at 5:00-5:30 PM. Please get your chatting done there so we can get down to business promptly at 5:30 Please don't forget to send me any questions you would like Happy speak about, etiquette, rules, whatever. He'll be delighted to get them. ALSO while 9 n' dine was rained out the Monday after the Masters, we will play on March 20th and every Monday around 5 pm regularly. Just c'mon down!! May s golf event will be at Links O' Tryon. Date is May 16th at 12:00 sharp. Price will be $30...plus the $3 game fee. The game will be a simple one this time; its called Play your own ball, all the way through the hole. The teams will count 3 net scores on the par 3's; 2 net scores on the par 4's; and 1 net score on the par 5's. The 3 over par rule will be in play as will be winter rules in your own fairway. L.O.T. is a pretty course-you will love it. Finally, bring a guest to the meeting-i think they'll find us an interesting groupone they just might want to join!! It was by far the best outing of any of the ASGA chapters that I have attended in three plus years and everyone was so friendly... 5 You'll have the time of your life at Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure October 16th to the 18th, ASGA Mountain Fall Weekend at Lake Lure, NC - Rumbling Bald Resort, in the mountains of Western North Carolina. This will be the site of a spectacular weekend of golf and fun from October 16th to the 18th, The event will be hosted by the Asheville Chapter of ASGA. The theme: You ll Have the Time of Your Life is taken from the words of the Bill Medley/ Jennifer Warren song of a similar name; the theme of the movie Dirty Dancing which was filmed on the site of this outing. Rumbling Bald is 1 hour from Asheville, 1 hour from Greenville/Spartanburg, and 2 hours from Charlotte. This world class resort has a variety of facilities that will support this outing including a large restaurant (Lakeview) area with private rooms to accommodate a reception, breakfasts, and Saturday night dinner. Golf: The Apple Valley course is a Dan Maples creation, and is called one of the most beautiful mountain courses around by Golf Digest s places to play. Apple Valley s length provides a number of opportunities for spectacular drives. It's after the drive where golfers need to think clearly to score well. The Course Rating is 73.2 and the Slope Rating is 140. Bald Mountain's name come from the rock faced cliffs towering over the course. This course is a true challenge in a lovely setting and is popular for golfers of all abilities. The course has a rating of 70.9 and a slope of 128.

It s totally up to you. You can hang with your friends this Memorial Day Weekend or you can make new ones at one of our nation s premier resorts. Countless U.S. Presidents have visited this historic venue in the rolling hills of Virginia and countless ASGA Chapter Presidents have teed-off there as well. Why Homestead? It s convenient to our membership base to the extent that probably 50% of our membership can drive there but most importantly, we feel home there. It s just our kind of place. Are you man enough to attend? It seems we ve got ourselves into a bit of a predicament. We know women love these spa resorts but when do we SCREAM out loud and tell the MEN to signup as well?
