We have had great opportunities to play some awesome golf courses, with more to come.thank you Barney. Some of us are looking forward to the trip to Pinehurst for fun, fellowship and GOLF. hope some of you are considering going, it was a great time last year. Speaking of good times, thanks to the social chairs, Christine Mehan and Steve Hall for all the good opportunities to socialize with members off the course and have more fun. The Culinary outing to the Greek Olympia restaurant was a nice turn out, delicious food and fun watching the men belly dance.steve H know how to shake those hips.go men. There is a possibility that National will be going to Homestead in Virginia over Labor Day so save the day/weekend. Very nice place, beautiful mountains, Sam Snead course is interesting to play. Tampa is having an outing the weekend of Memorial Day. That information has been sent to you. See you out there. ~Susan From the Handicap Chairperson Our handicaps are held through the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA). The system is called GHIN. When you sign up, you get a GHIN number that is good at courses throughout the US. When you go into GHIN.COM, click on Addresses and put in your address to receive your updated Handicap Index. Handicap Index is updated on the 15 and 30 of the month. You received a Handicap Index after five scores are posted. You have an established Handicap Index after 20 scores are posted. The system uses the best 10 scores out of the latest 20 scores posted to establish your Handicap Index. ASGA is a organized group and not affiliated with a golf course. Therefore, we have a Handicap Index and not a Course Handicap. When you play a course, you use your Handicap Index to establish your Course Handicap. For instance, if your Handicap Index is 36.8, you check the slope of the tees you are playing. For instance 117 is the slope. Look in the back of your USGA Handicap System Reference Guide for 117 slope. Find your index 36.8, follow across the line and your will find your Course Handicap. Which would be 38. You received this handbook when you signed up to have your handicap established through ASGA last year or new members this year. Inputting your scores - I will input the scores when we play as a group, IF THE CARDS OR SCORES ARE GIVEN TO ME. If not you can input your own scores when we play, as well as when you play on your own. If your handicap is held at your home course, don't forget to input your scores in your system when we play as a group. Scores are input through the internet at GHIN.COM. Open the screen and click on "Post on Line". You will need you GHIN Number and Name and click on "Continue". Information required to post a score is: DATE PLAYED, SCORE, SLOPE AND RATING. Our games are always 'AWAY'. The slope and rating can be found on the score card or you can get the information when posting your score. You have a choice of "Course/Tee" or "Manual". Course/Tee is when you do not have the slope and rating. Manual is when you have the information. In both cases use the pull down screens and fill in the information you have. See the table on page 6 of the Handbook. Example: If your handicap is 10 thru 19 you can only post a 7 on a hole. If you have a 9 on a hole you take off two strokes from you total score. You must adjust your score when posting your score. This does not mean that you do not put your true score on the score card while playing. This is for posting a score only. Nine & Dine ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE From the Golf Chairperson Greetings all fellow ASGA golfers, April brought warmer days on the course and we only had small groups at Sugarloaf Mountain and at Eastwood. It had been some time since we were at Stoneybrook and we had 26 golfers which included a guest and a member Terry T. who had never played with us. We hope you decide to keep coming out Terry. We then had 28 members decide to play at Sweetwater and after our round we all trucked over to Sue W. s house for lunch and good conversation. After most had left, a group decided to stay into the wee hours and play cards. I heard that PAPPA was the big winner. Closest to pin winners for Stoneybrook were Steve H. and Pam W. Winners at Sweetwater were Rick D. and Josephine B. By the way, Josephine is heading back to the northeast for the summer and will join us again in late Oct. The last week end of April we will be playing at Providence Country Club and have lunch in their wonderful grill room, do not miss this fairly new course and all the wildlife on the course, wide fairways and lady friendly. For the month of May we have Falcons Fire, Mystic Dunes (one of the best resort courses in Orlando), and North Shore. I am not scheduling any golf for the memorial week end due to a good amount of our A club rule is to pick up at double par to speed up play

3 members going to the National event in Pinehurst. You should consider going to this event. If anyone would like to volunteer to help plan the Ryder cup match in Oct., please contact me. Also, if anyone has some ideas for golf, games or courses, let me know. Rules and More Rules Does hitting found golf ball to player who lost it count as illegal practice swing? Q. Larry was in the tree line the separates holes #3 and #5. Larry was playing #3. A golfer from #5 had given up looking for his ball and played on with a new ball and a penalty. A minute later, Larry found both his ball and the ball belonging to the player on hole #5. Larry shouted out to the player on #5 that he had found his ball. The player shouted back to Larry to throw him the ball. The other golfer was about 100 yards away, out of throwing range, so Larry hit the ball to him with his pitching wedge. When Larry returned to his stroke play foursome, Scott said, I think that practice hit is going to cost you a stroke or two. Was Scott correct? What is the correct ruling? A. Larry's good deed goes unpunished. Larry receives no penalty. B. Scott was correct, practice strokes during a round are prohibited. No good deed goes unpunished. Larry receives a one stroke penalty. C. Scott was correct, practice strokes during a round are prohibited. No good deed goes unpunished. Larry receives a two stroke penalty. And the answer is... The answer is A, Larry's good deed is not punished. Yes, Rule 7-2 details penalties for taking practice strokes on the course. However, in this situation, Larry was acting out of courtesy, there is no penalty. Decision 7-2/5.5 Player Finds Ball and Hits It to Player Who Lost It addresses this exact situation and the decision is, no penalty.

5 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLESGOLF IN AMERICA AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION MAY, 2011 Event Dates: Thursday, May 26 Sunday, May 29, 2011 With great excitement and anticipation, we re happy to announce our continued association with the fine folks at Pinehurst Resort in announcing our Reunion in Pinehurst. The Reunion on Memorial Day Weekend has shown to be ASGA s largest-attended event each year with attendance soaring over 400 in years past. It s a great time to see old friends and meet friends you never thought you had. Dates set for this year are May 26-29, a Thursday through Saturday (we polled you and that s what you wanted!). We asked Pinehurst to price this event as if you walked-in on your own and wanted the same exact package on the same dates. The standard package would be $1593 and the room-byyourself package would be $2349 at the Carolina. Our packages start at $515 per person, based on double occupancy and $674 per person based on single occupancy, which includes all taxes, resort service fees, gratuities for wait and bell staff, etc. Also, ASGA will rebate to your chapter $20.00 per attendee if your chapter sends 10% or more of your membership (as of 5/26/11) to this event. Make Sure You re a Member Before Traveling! It really should never have to be said, but sometimes we have to remind folks. In order to attend ANY multi-chapter event, you must be a member of ASGA. Multi-chapter events are special events and it s very important that you are a member before showing-up. Who wants the embarrassment of being told to join on the spot or else? Also, we occasionally need to remind folks that our official national policy on guests is that you can attend one (1) event as a guest, either a meeting or a golf outing, but to attend any other event, you must be a member of ASGA. We ve had comments from members asking why should I renew my dues if others don t have to pay? ASGA has four (4) employees and dues income is our primary source of revenue.
