1 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Philadelphia Chapter - American Singles Golf Association May 2011 SPRING HOLLOW- APRIL 2 nd Combine partly cloudy skies, a slight breeze, a really nice golf course and 33 avid golfers and you have the makings of the opening of the 2011 golf season. Spring Hollow was the scene of the first outing of the year. The outing was titled a blind draw outing. Instead of posting the pairings days before as is the custom, the only way to find out who played with who was to arrive at the course. It was nice to see old friends we may not have seen in a while (shame on you for not coming out to our social events) and new friends Carmel Ciarvardone and Dave Fabian who joined us for the first of hopefully many outings. Who is kidding who.we roped them both in. Being the first outing of the year, almost all of us spent the day getting the rust off. Scores were not important unless you shot under par for the day and although some may have come close, no one was able to break par for the day. As is the norm, the day s events did not end after the 18 th hole. Thanks to a shot gun start and pre-ordering our meals, we all were able to share dinner and a drink or three together. The topic of conversation was a former member who is now an author. No need to name names, when you are famous everyone knows you. Once the party made its way to the bar, the new Bobbsey Twins Nancy Cataldo and Karen Eckert elevated the laughs to a higher level. All we know is they have fun and games planned for Shawnee and if things work out they may even have an extra roommate. Wonder who the lucky guy could be. There was talk of an exciting social event that would definitely be a huge success, after all who doesn t like to play with toys or play dress-up. In case you are wondering why there are a few unanswered questions or incomplete thoughts, the reason is simple you missed out on the fun we always have at our outings. Come out and get the answers. Who knows, you may even get your name in the writeup. ~Tom Sheehan, Outing Coordinator MASTER S SUNDAY GOLF OUTING APRIL 10th Our annual Master Golf Outing was held on April 10 th at Westover County Club with 36 anxious golfer ready for play. Finally, the weather cooperated and we had no rain. Great Day and fun for all especially for Dave Walsh in a 4-some with one of our couple groups, Pat Kosek! Sorry Don but that s the risk you take for going off in separate carts. After Pat verbally abused Dave s erratic game, the Lord had her duff the next three shots and she became known playing her 7 Game, a score easy to add. Dave always seems to have a good golf story to tell. Westover donated a round of golf for four and lucky Connie Hanson s name was drawn. Her reaction was I can count on my hands how many times I have won something. I certainly felt LUCKY today, more ways than you will know! 4 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLESGOLF IN AMERICA AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION MAY, 2011 Event Dates: Thursday, May 26 Sunday, May 29, 2011 With great excitement and anticipation, we re happy to announce our continued association with the fine folks at Pinehurst Resort in announcing our Reunion in Pinehurst. The Reunion on Memorial Day Weekend has shown to be ASGA s largest-attended event each year with attendance soaring over 400 in years past. It s a great time to see old friends and meet friends you never thought you had. Dates set for this year are May 26-29, a Thursday through (we polled you and that s what you wanted!). We asked Pinehurst to price this event as if you walked-in on your own and wanted the same exact package on the same dates. The standard package would be $1593 and the room-byyourself package would be $2349 at the Carolina. Our packages start at $515 per person, based on double occupancy and $674 per person based on single occupancy, which includes all taxes, resort service fees, gratuities for wait and bell staff, etc. Also, ASGA will rebate to your chapter $20.00 per attendee if your chapter sends 10% or more of your membership (as of 5/26/11) to this event. Make Sure You re a Member Before Traveling! It really should never have to be said, but sometimes we have to remind folks. In order to attend ANY multi-chapter event, you must be a member of ASGA. Multi-chapter events are special events and it s very important that you are a member before showing-up. Who wants the embarrassment of being told to join on the spot or else? Also, we occasionally need to remind folks that our official national policy on guests is that you can attend one (1) event as a guest, either a meeting or a golf outing, but to attend any other event, you must be a member of ASGA. We ve had comments from members asking why should I renew my dues if others don t have to pay? ASGA has four (4) employees and dues income is our primary source of revenue. No revenue - no organization. Thanks for helping to spread the word about the importance of dues.
