1 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Orlando Chapter - American Singles Golf Association December 2010 From the President Hi everyone, Congratulations to our new club champions, Mitzi Seem and Barney Coomes, who won their trophies at our club championship on November 20 at Harmony Golf Preserve. Taking 2 nd were Susan Smith and John Byrnes, and placing 3 rd were Kathleen Gaudiano and Terry Kuschel. Chuck Waltz contributed a putter and a free putting lesson to the winner of our putting contest, Errol Bannister. Congratulations to our new officers for 2011 elected at the November 10 th meeting: Golf Chair - Kathy Hutchinson, Social Chair - Barb Tinsley, Membership Cochairs Bonnie Cochran & Bev Mundt, Communications Chair Rick Dawson, Treasurer Merl Pelletier, and Secretary Margaret Miller. They will be supporting our new President Susan McCullough and new Vice President Jim Smith. Rosina Huber will continue as Sunshine Chair. Thank you all for volunteering your time and talents to give our club a great 2011! We will be having our annual holiday party on Friday, December 17 th at the Altamonte Springs Hilton. We are looking forward to a great evening of dinner and dancing. The cost will be $25 for members and $35 for non-members. The Evite with all the details has been sent out, so please RSVP and get your check in to Jackie Rogers soon. I hope to see you all there. Our social chair also has a dinner planned for Café Trastevere on Friday, December 3 rd, to help you recover from too much turkey with some great Italian food. We have some great golf planned for December. We ll be at Remington on Sunday, December 5 th, at Dubsdread Golf Course on Saturday, December 11 th, and we ll finish a wonderful year of golf at Grand Cypress on Sunday, December 19 th. Our meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at the Best Western Mount Vernon Inn in Winter Park. Join us at the next meeting on December 8th at 6:00 for socializing in the lounge and 7:00 for our meeting, followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! ~Pam Woodard From the Handicap Chairperson Our handicaps are held through the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA). The system is called GHIN. When you sign up, you get a GHIN number that is good at courses throughout the US. When you go into GHIN.COM, click on Addresses and put in your address to receive your updated Handicap Index. Handicap Index is updated on the 15 and 30 of the month. You received a Handicap Index after five scores are posted. You have an established Handicap Index after 20 scores are posted. The system uses the best 10 scores out of the latest 20 scores posted to establish your Handicap Index. ASGA is a organized group and not affiliated with a golf course. Therefore, we have a Handicap Index and not a Course Handicap. When you play a course, you use your Handicap Index to establish your Course Handicap. For instance, if your Handicap Index is 36.8, you check the slope of the tees you are playing. For instance 117 is the slope. Look in the back of your USGA Handicap System Reference Guide for 117 slope. Find your index 36.8, follow across the line and your will find your Course Handicap. Which would be 38. You received this handbook when you signed up to have your handicap established through ASGA last year or new members this year. Inputting your scores. If you play in a foursome on your own, you can input your own scores. Scores are input through the internet. The address is GHIN.COM. Open this screen and click on Post On Line. Your will need your GHIN number and name. Enter. Information required to post the score is Date Played, Score, Slope and Rating (found on score card), Our games are always "Away" as we do not have a home course. Once you have an established Handicap Index (20 scores posted), you must post an Equitable Stroke Control Score (ESC). See the table on page 6 of the Handbook. Example: If your handicap is 10 thru 19 you can only post a 7 on a hole. If you have a 9 on a hole you take off two strokes from you total score. You must adjust your score when posting your score. This does not mean that you do not put your true score on the score card while playing. This is for posting a score only. Instructions are also found on our website You can look up slope and ratings by clicking on Check Rating Lookup. Your will need the course name, city and state. If you signed up last year and have not paid your $11.00 for 2010, then you are now inactive in the GHIN system. If you would like to renew your membership in the GHIN system or become a new member, you can see Sue Walther or mail a check to her made out to ASGA Orlando at My new address is 2549 Fox Squirrel Ct., Apopka, Fl If you are a new member and have had a previous GHIN number, she will need your GHIN number to put you in the system. If not you will get a new number.
