1 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Tampa Bay Chapter- American Singles Golf Association June 2011 From the President When What Where Saturday, June 18 Golf 1 p.m. Plantation Palms Sunday, July Noon Westchase Greetings Fellow Members: It s summertime and we have some exciting golf and social events coming up that I hope you all will attend. We'll start the month off golfing at Isla Del Sol on June 4th. Thanks to Gail Kutay and Donna Douglass for arranging this outing. On June 11th, Sharon Leavitt has planned a kayaking trip at Ft. De Soto Park. June 18th is our monthly golf tournament at Plantation Palms. And, as always, be sure to keep checking your for surprise golf outings from Dick Patton. I do want to mention that as a courtesy to the golf and social committees, please register for the events by the deadline dates. In a lot of instances, it's very difficult to accommodate last minute sign-ups. Our monthly meeting is June 14 and our special guest speaker will be LPGA Pro Vicki Goetze-Ackerman. Vicki has been a member of the LPGA Tour since 1994 where she enjoyed a competitive playing career with the best female golfers from around the world. After retiring in 2009, Vicki is now teaching golf in the Tampa Bay area at Buckhorn Springs Golf and CC. Please join us on the 14th and give Vicki a warm welcome. I hope you've noticed that your Board of Directors has been hard at work planning and organizing activities for your enjoyment. You recently received a questionnaire from us asking for your input on how we can make our organization more competitive with all of the other golf and social organizations in the Tampa Bay area. We'd like to know what we are doing right; what we should stop doing; what we should start doing, and why. Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete this for us. We will be reviewing your answers at our next Board Meeting and will discuss implementation of any changes that the majority of members feels we need to make. This is YOUR club and your input is very important to us. We'll keep you posted on the outcome of the survey. Thank you for your support. Golf Committee Review- Chi Chi Rodriguez Outing May 14 The friendly people at Chi Chi s were most welcoming and we had a nice outing. The course was in very good shape. There was a rain delay of about 25 minutes, but most teams completed the course. Closest-to-the-Pin winners were Cynthia Martell on Number 6 and Danny Leslie on Number 11. The first place team of Tom Patka, Cynthia Martell, and Renee Roulo won $10.00 each. The second place team of Harmon Youngblood, Ray Preston, Katherine Anderoos, and Hunter Dixon won $5.00 each. The links-style design starts with a welcoming par-5, and then slowly steps it up with a mixture of strong par-3s. The true-rolling elevated greens have good movement and are challenging to every skill level of golfer. Narrow in spots, but basically wide open, some holes require carries over marsh or water to reach the green. Plantation Palms Golf Club provides every golfer with a challenging and rewarding golf experience. The ASGA outing will be a shamble with a shotgun start on Saturday June 18 th at 1:00pm. A team total gross score will be used to decide first and second place winners. The team must use at least one drive from each player. Cost is $48.00 and includes a meal of Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, and tea/ water Be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before tee time and check in at the registration table. See you at Plantation Palms! July at Westchase Sunday, July 17 is our monthly outing at Westchase. Tee-times, starting at noon, with play your own ball will be the format for this outing. After the registration deadline, all registered players will be ed the pairings and associated tee times Please include your address with your registration. Please sign-up by using our online registrations at or by submitting a completed registration form. Registration forms are available on our website at Social Committee Ft. Desoto Park will be the venue for Kayaking Saturday June 11th at 10:00am. The cost is $31.05 for two hours on a single kayak or $42.80 for two hours on a double kayak. There will be 10% discount given to former teachers, military, etc. Pay when we get there... and we can even pay after we kayak if we decide to do more than two hours. TOPWATER KAYAKS accepts VISA & Mastercard credit cards in addition to cash and local checks. Fifty-Fifty Winner: The winner of the raffle at the May meeting was Danny Leslie, one of our new members. He won $ Congratulations, Danny!! Handicap Coordinator This is a reminder that it is the individual member s responsibility to update their information on the national website to keep it current-including your handicap, as well as address, phone number, etc. There is no system in place that automatically transfers the information from the GHIN system to the National s database. To update the information go to and click on My Account on the left side of the page. You will need to establish a username and a password. To keep it simple I just used my membership number as the username. Once signed in there is a link to update your personal information and then be sure to save it before you exit. Each month when you receive the from GHIN with the updated handicap is a good reminder that the next step is to update the roster on the national website. All of your information is important to the chapter BUT your current handicap will be used for pairings by the golf committee for our outings.
