1 CELEBRATING 19 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Sacramento, CA Chapter - American Singles Golf Association July 2012 Big Surprises at Goat Mountain Saturday, June 23 was not your typical California sunny summer day of golf for Sacramento Singles. First of all... it WAS summer but the skies were overcast and windy and temperatures never got above 70. Many of us passed through rain showers to get to Goat Mountain... I mean Apple Mountain. Big surprises. Still and all, 14 Sacramento Singles braved the climate challenges for a day and a half of muy challenging golf adventure. No tournament or contest. The challenge was to finish... The prize was the all day buffet of really good food from breakfast to burgers, spectacular views of the Sierra and experiencing the Foothills of the Sierra in early summer when plants are blooming and critters roam. Team 1 teed off at 11:00. They were Mike Newby, Carol Norris, Connie Deblaquiere and Kathy Wichert. Kathy joins us occasionally from Incline Village. We were glad you could meet up in Camino. Team 2 was Karl Winkler, Melody Hayes and Mel O"Neal. Team 3 was Paul Arquete, Martha Murray, Jan Valine and Jan's guest, Ben Moran. Welcome Ben. We hope to see more of you. Finally Team 4 was Ernie Finkbeiner, Dwight Pattison and Sue Jeffery. It's a lot of uphill/downhill golf with narrow winding fairways. Even the short shots can seem pretty long on Apple Mountain. The payback is many spectacular views of the Sierra and blue skies and sunshine in the afternoon after the clouds had passed. There were no birdies or eagles but most of us had a shot at a turkey off the Number 1 Tee. We saw a doe foraging on the back 9. Some of you might think that is merely a picture of Dwight's hand. If you look very carefully, deep in the woods you'll see that doe. We left her alone and she ignored us. 4th of July 9 and Dine at Emerald Lakes. Mare Island on July 14. July is shaping up to be a busy month.
