1 CELEBRATING 13 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Philadelphia Chapter - American Singles Golf Association August 2006 Message from the Chairman What a great summer we are having! Even though it has been a hot and humid, we have held over 14 golf outings and 20 of our members attended the Battle of the Mason-Dixon held in Gettysburg with the Washington Chapter on July 15 th and 16 th. Thank you Ron Schillow for helping with the event. There is more to come over the next two months including Bucks County Country Club, Golden Oaks, Riverwinds, Reading Country Club and Split Rock Resort. One of our goals this year was to grow our membership and we are proud to report that we have added over 20 new members since April of Special thanks to Al Griffith for donating his time for the new mentoring program for the new golfers, and to Pat Kosek and Laura Crump for their hard work and time spent in advertising for our chapter. Can't forget our Golf Chairman, Howard Schwarz and Communications, Debbie Kindt and Sugar Daddy Treasurer, Paul O'Connell. Thanks to all our loyal members for your continued support! ~ Chairman, ASGA Philadelphia Chapter Westover Nine & Wine The second Nine & Wine of the season was held on Saturday, July 1 at Westover Golf Club with 30 members and guests participating. With several prospective new members playing for the first time this season and many of our new golf members anxious to get back into the swing of their golf game, a scramble was played. Prizes were awarded for the closest to the pin and low team score. Winners included: Ed Murphy, Michaelene Nini, Joanne McGuire, and Howard Schwarz. Everyone stayed for dinner along with a few invited guests and that night we added 3 new members to our Philadelphia Chapter. Special thanks to all our members who have welcomed, encouraged and given instructions to our new golfers who joined our chapter. Center Square Outing Even though the weather was hot and humid, 26 members and guests attended the Center Square Golf Outing. Prizes were awarded for the closest to the pin and least number of putts. Winners included: Sylvia Senseny, Joe Cirovola, Ralph Bowers, Therese Comyns George Farley and Laura Crump. Everyone was happy to finish and get in the air-conditioned Champs Bar. Thank you Jeff Robinson for helping - Great Job! ~ Gettysburg Weekend Golf Outing The inaugural Battle of the Mason-Dixon Line was held between the Philadelphia and Washington Chapters in the sunny and warm (HOT HOT!!) Gettysburg, PA area over the July 15th weekend. Several of our members took advantage of arriving on Friday to sightsee the historic battlefields of Gettysburg as well as do some outlet shopping. The golf competition began Saturday afternoon on "The Links at Gettysburg" golf club. A combined total of 56 golfers enjoyed the links style course. The closestto-the-pin contest was won by the Washington duo of Vicki Carr and Tony Paduno. The 44 members that spent the night in Gettysburg enjoyed a nice dinner at either the outside cafe of The Gettysburg Hotel or in the Gettysburg Pub across the street. Once back at the hotel, Christine Sorge and her professional mixologist, Gerry Miatech, made frosty fruity cocktails for all. yes, there was even a hallway putting contest!! 2 Philadelphia Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association PA. Once again the Washington contingent of LeAnn Jensen and Bill Finneran won the closest-to-the-pin prizes. Everyone had an enjoyable time and were already asking when the next Battle will be held. ~Ron Schillow Five Ponds Golf Outing 7/22 26 people came out to "Five Ponds Golf course" in Warminster anticipating the heavens to open any minute. The rain held off for most of the afternoon, but then the Apocolypse came around 4:00. Most of the groups managed to finish at least 12 holes. How the golf cart drivers found their way back to the clubhouse was a miracle - what with the winds and driving rain. After "drying off" for a bit about 18 of us went to "Mike's" Restaurant down the street for drinks and dinner.
