1 CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Kansas City Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - October 2013 President s Note The golf season in Kansas City should be winding down but not for KCSGA members. We just got back from our weekend Branson trip, which was a blast (see pix below). On Oct 11, some of us are traveling back to Firekeeper Golf Course to use our rain check. We were rained out on Sunday of our original weekend, so Oct 11 was set up to use the rain checks. Then immediately following on Sat, Oct 12, we have a tournament at Golf Club of Kansas hosted by Rhonda Shorten and Konnee Cook. Our last official golf event for October and for the season is Drumm Farm on Oct 19. A special weekend spa/golf event in Excelsior Springs is planned also so watch your s for details on all of these events. The October general meeting will be Thurs 10/17 at Birdies Pub & Grill located at 75 th & Antioch in Overland Park. Plan to join us for social ½ hour at 6:00 and then a short meeting at 6:30 to discuss pertinent business and all of our upcoming events. Special Ops Warrior Foundation Don t forget our charity jar--special Ops Warrior Foundation. Look for it at all of our events and general meetings. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) is a top-rated nonprofit organization that supports the military's special operations forces and their families through three programs: - College Scholarships for the surviving children of fallen Special Operations Forces - Family Services, including educational & family counseling, wellness retreats, and advocacy support - Wounded Special Operations Forces Support: We have had our jar at several events already and plan to have it at all our October events plus our general meeting. Will be taking donations through the end of the year and will send in our final total in after the December general meeting. This has been a great money maker in the past and we want to continue as long as we have golf balls to offer. To add a little incentive to the bidding we are taping prizes to the bottom of one of the boxes. Once the auction has closed, we will reveal who has won the prize and what it is. Each month we will have a different prize. Please continue to support your chapter by bidding on these experienced balls at our general meetings. VP for 2014 During the October general meeting, we will be voting on our Vice President for The office of VP automatically takes over as President for the following year. If you or anyone you know would like to be VP next year, please let Dohn Kennyhertz know you are interested. Or you can let anyone on the board know you are interested. ~Rhonda Shorten, President Next 1st Friday - October 4th From what I found out from Alleyne Johnson who helped me out with the hosting in my absence, there were only around 18 people that went to Piropos in Briarcliff (Northland KC). Some of the members thought that the place was a little too pricey. Thanks to Alleyne Johnson for that help. I sent out a survey about which venues would be more favored to have a repeat First Friday gatherings. The result was inconclusive because the responses were only from 8 people. However, from that, Gaslight Grill, Gordon Biersch and Nick & Jake's seem to be winners. Ergo, I decided to go with Gaslight Grill for October. This place has a new bar menu ($5 appetizers -..\..\..\..\..\..\Documents\Sports-Golf\KCSGA Photos\Oct 2013 Newsletter photos\gaslight Grill New Happy Hour.htm) for the Happy Hour and they appear to be very tasty and nicely presented when Bob and I went there. I encourage all of our members to try to come to this one. Many thanks and sincerest appreciation to Larry Shockley for organizing to buy tickets to see a Royals game last September 4th. Sixteen members enjoyed watching the Royals play against the Seattle Mariners. Saturday, November 9 is our Banquet & Dance. It will be at Blue Hills Country Club, 777 West Burning Tree Drive, Kansas City, MO. Watch for follow up ed details, but plan on arriving around 6:30 for socializing before dinner. 3 September 1st Friday vided by the same DJ at our Spring Fling event. I look forward with great anticipation as this will be an event where all our members and guests will appear in their elegant, chic and dashing outfits and perhaps magic dancing shoes (?). November's First Friday is in the works as of yet. Sandy Kolderup suggested and will take on the job of putting the details in the , to have a mini-golf outing at Smiley's in Lenexa, then continue on to a wine tasting in Bonner Springs, Kansas, which is about 15 minutes away from Smiley's. Halloween costume is very much encouraged. Boo! ~Luisa Cadavillo, Social Chair Remaining Golf in 2013 There aren t many events planned in the remaining weeks, but review those remaining and get signed up as soon as possible as a courtesy to both the courses and your esteemed hosts that put a lot of time to managing the events. And don t forget, we have the special event at the Elms and the course in Excelsior Springs before the end of the year. Watch your s and/ or talk to Bob Fisher or Bob Haefele to confirm details on The Elms event or the Drumm Farm tournament. The remaining events are listed below for your review: Golf Club of Kansas, Lenexa, KS Sat, Oct 12 th Tournament Drumm Farm, Independence, MO Saturday, Oct. 19 th Wine & Dine Watch your s for details and how to sign up. ~Golf Chair - Bob Haefele BOARD ELECTIONS 2013 (The following is being supplied as a follow up to Dohn s on Monday, Sept. 30 th ) Dear Fellow Singles Golfers, It is that time of year again to select and approve new Board Members for the coming year. As your current Vice President, the bylaws state that I will be moving into the President s position in All other positions will be open except for the Golf Chairman to be held by Bob Fischer. The positions open are: Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, New Member Chairperson, Social Chairperson, and Correspondent Chairperson. All positions will be held from January 1 st through December 31 st, The Vice President s position will require a two year obligation since that person will become the President in The new 2014 VP is the only position that must be approved by a majority vote by the members attending the upcoming General Meeting at Birdies, October 17 th. All other positions are appointed on a volunteer basis. Being on the Board of our great organization will give you an opportunity to make a difference in our current policies, decision making, and general future of our organization. It is also a great way to get to know our current and future members. Also, as a Board participant for the last three years, I found it to be a lot of fun! Therefore, I am soliciting your help in filling the above positions. I am inviting some of you new members to help our organization look at our group from a new perspective, and the more seasoned members who have not served on the Board to give back to the membership you have enjoyed for some time now. Also, any current Board members who wish to continue his/her service will be greatly appreciated. Great scheduling, 3 awesome courses and wonderful meal hosting/planning by Konnee, Sandy, Rhonda and Bob. I m surely going to try and make it next year!
