Hope to see a lot of you at Creekmoor Golf Course in Belton on April 16th. In March, the club had its annual Casino Night and it was a great night of gaming, food, and fellowship. Thanks to Debbie Opfer for again hosting this event at her home. Debbie and Paul did a super job. We only have one event scheduled for April but for any of you that can clear your calendar for the Lake of the Ozarks trip May 13-15, it is a fun trip. I'd like to finish with a quote from philosopher Thich Nhat Hanh. "Peace is all around us, in the world and in nature and within us in our bodies, and our spirits. Once we learn to touch this peace, we will be healed and transformed. It is not a matter of faith; it is a matter of practice." Getting to Know KCSGA Members: Have you met Margaret Lange yet? She s one of our newest members who discovered KCSGA at The Golf Show in Feb. Growing up, Margaret lived all over the Midwest. Her Dad worked for IBM and in those days it meant I've Been Moved. As an adult, she has lived mostly in Indiana and California with a short reside in Iran before the revolution. Margaret loves to travel. She feels she has been fortunate in having gone to Scotland many times, Israel a few times, Ghana, Guatemala Honduras, Costa Rica and an extensive trip to Eastern Poland last summer where she had some of the best food she has ever had while traveling. Margaret has a wonderful family of 3 grown daughters and 4 grandchildren who are almost grown. She is a retired school teacher who taught at risk kids in KC and Hickman Mills in alternative high schools. Presently Margaret still works part time for her Synagogue where she is Program Director and she also tutors students for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Life is exciting and fun and she looks forward to what each new day will bring. Be sure to say Hello and introduce yourself to Margaret when you see her at an upcoming event.

Rules and More Rules Stroke breaks golf ball into pieces Q. Larry's golf ball broke into pieces when he hit it off the tee. I think Larry was proud of his "mighty swing" but I think the ball disintegration had more to do with the ball lying in the bottom of his bag for years than with the power of his swing. Anyway, here is the question. What is the correct procedure when a ball breaks apart because of a stroke? A. Play from position of largest remaining piece, without penalty. B. Play from position of largest remaining piece, one stroke penalty. C. Play from original position, without penalty. D. Play from original position, onestroke penalty. AND THE ANSWER IS... The answer is C. Rule 5-3 Ball unfit for play applies. If a ball breaks into pieces because of a stroke, the stroke is canceled and the player must play a ball, without penalty, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was played. Ball in bunker moved during search Q. Hapless Larry managed to get in another golf predicament. Larry s soaring ball to the green landed short and buried itself in a bunker. The ball was completely covered by sand. I mean the ball totally disappeared. In searching for the ball, Larry s foot accidentally moved the ball and the ball became totally exposed, or in this case, uncovered. What is the correct ruling/requirement? A. No penalty, however the ball must be replaced and totally covered with sand. B. No penalty, however the ball must be replaced and covered with sand but a part of the ball may be left visible. C. One stoke penalty and the ball must be replaced and totally covered with sand. D. One stroke penalty and the ball must be replaced and covered with sand but a part of the ball may be left visible. And the answer is... The answer is B There is no penalty; the ball must be replaced and recovered so that only part of the ball is visible. Rule 12-1 is applicable to this situation. In a hazard, if the ball is believed to be covered by sand or lose impediments, a player can remove by probing or raking with a club as much sand as needed so that he can see a part of the ball. If an excess is removed, there is no penalty and the ball must be re-covered so that only a part of the ball is visible. If the ball is moved during the removal, there is no penalty; the ball must be replaced and, if necessary, re-covered.

The Reunion on Memorial Day Weekend has shown to be ASGA s largest-attended event each year with attendance soaring over 400 in years past. It s a great time to see old friends and meet friends you never thought you had. Dates set for this year are May 26-29, a Thursday through Saturday (we polled you and that s what you wanted!). We asked Pinehurst to price this event as if you walked-in on your own and wanted the same exact package on the same dates. Our packages start at $515 per person, based on double occupancy and $674 per person based on single occupancy, which includes all taxes, resort service fees, gratuities for wait and bell staff, etc. Also, ASGA will rebate to your chapter $20.00 per attendee if your chapter sends 10% or more of your membership (as of 5/26/11) to this event. Hawaii Trip Was Fun, Relaxing Our group had not been to Hawaii in a couple of years and it was time for us to go. Twenty-eight of us ventured to Maui-land for seven days of fun, fellowship and beautiful fairways. We played the Wailea courses located near the Fairmont Hotel. Generally, the weather cooperated and so did the seven men who accompanied the 21 women. (Hey, we had a man in each foursome, who can complain?) Kay Reisz had a two-inch closest-to-pin. It was, without a doubt, the shot of the week. Members snorkeled, rode bikes down the side of the volcano, went whale hunting, oops, I m sorry, whale watching, a authentic luau and did many other things to make their daze. As our wheels left the runway, the seven-foot tsunami hit the island. Everyone made it back home safely. We ll head back to Hawaii, most likely in February, 2013, so start saving those beads!
