1 CELEBRATING 27 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Orlando Chapter - American Singles Golf Association January/February 2019 From the President Happy New Year everyone! We are looking forward to having a great Our holiday party at Deer Run was a wonderful way to celebrate a fun year with 32 of our golfing friends and cap off a spectacular 2018 that included hosting this year s Florida Cup to 110 Florida Chapter members at the Omni Resort, fun golf getaways, weekend golf and annual Club Chapter Championship, added social activities and happy hours, home parties and the like. Please note this change: This is the first bi-monthly newsletter you will receive (rather than monthly). In 2019, you will receive the newsletter in Jan., Mar., Jun., Aug., Oct., and Dec. In between you will receive a Chapter of upcoming events and activities as well as the normal Evites to sign up for golf and social outings. We hope this will enhance our communications and provide you with information on a more timely basis. The existing Board members that you see in the left column of this newsletter will remain in place for A few folks have already volunteered to help with events, but the Orlando Chapter can always use your help. It will be hard to beat the great time that everyone enjoyed at our lovely Christmas party at the Country Club at Deer Run. We had a terrific crowd who were entertained by Zach Scott, our deejay for the evening, and we loved having some delightful guests, including several former members of the chapter. Dinner was very nice, and the beautiful bundt cakes were the hit of the evening. Coming up in January or February (date to be set soon), we have a happy hour planned at Sam Snead's Tavern in Maitland. We look forward to seeing you out on the course! ~Pam Reese Golf Chair I'm sitting in Seattle, WA as I type my portion of the ASGA newsletter looking outside at the overcast clouds and rain. The temperature is about 40 degrees and I can't wait to get back to Florida! It's been much fun visiting friends and family here but I can't wait to get back to hit a golf ball. So here goes my first contribution of the 2019 ASGA, Orlando chapter newsletter! First off, I'd like to welcome Cathy Semyck as my assistant. Cathy has graciously agreed to help with scheduling our outings as well as covering for me when necessary. She has done much for the Executive Women's Golf Association and still maintains a close relationship with them. Please feel free to contact Cathy if you have ideas or suggestions. Our Club Championship round at Celebration was held on a beautiful golf day in December, and we had a full tee sheet. At the end of the round, our champions Steve Hall and Virginia Borchert were heartily congratulated, and then they bought a round of drinks for all. It was a splendid day! As most of you know, golf rates go up during the first four or five months of the year. This is the period of time that courses make their money to help them get through the sweltering Summer months. As the golf chair, I work to keep your green fees as low as possible. I've built relationships with many courses and often I get rates comparable to or even lower than last year. Sometimes, courses undergo new management changes and are difficult to deal with. That's why I end up booking some familiar courses and will do so until warmer weather. I'm also in the process of booking our overnight trips. I'm currently looking at returning to LaCita and Jekyll Island and need suggestions on where YOU want to go.
