You may lift, clean, and place your ball within one scorecard length (12 inches), through the green, except for hazards and greens. Otherwise, play will be according to USGA rules, with the exception that putts within one scorecard length of the closest edge of the hole may be picked up, counting as one stroke and considered holed out. The purpose of a limited Playday is to have a block of tee times for OFWW members who are not playing an interclub match that day. There will not be a starter or a scorer. A starter sheet will be put out with tee times from 7:30 to 8:45. A player in the first group must pick up the starter sheet from the patio and take it to the 1st tee. The sheet may be discarded when the last player has teed off. LP will not count as an OFWW Playday. Our OFWW web site is

2 Volunteer Tournament KWCC s annual Volunteer Tournament has been scheduled for Friday, November 7, 9:00 am on the Forest Course. This event is the reward for the year s volunteer activities, such as the spring divot days. You can check your qualifications for the tournament and register for it on the OFWW web page. Please notify Rodney at randrwmson@aol.com if you think your point count is incorrect. OFWW Annual Meeting The OFWW Annual Meeting is scheduled for November 13, at 7:15 am (prior to the November 9:00 am), in the Tin Cup. We will execute the business of OFWW including election of officers/directors for 2015 and decisions on proposed by-law amendments and changes. New Board Nominations A five member Board-approved Nominating Committee, consisting of John Dove (chair), Ben Bowman, Larry Breen, LeRoy Herren and Gerry Weeden... has nominated the following eight positions for our 2015 Board of Directors: President: Vice President: Secretary: Treasurer: Communications: Tournaments: Lake Team Captain: Marsh Team Captain: Charles DeVoe I.D. 3 By-Law Amendments/Changes: The Board has proposed two By-Law Amendments. The Board has proposed a change in our By-Laws regarding Dues structure. Currently, the annual dues are $15 if joining during the first 6 months of the calendar year... and $10 for the last 6 months. As we ve had several new members join in November & December during the last two years... the Board is proposing a change in dues structure to reflect an adjustment for members joining very late in the year and to avoid someone deferring membership until after the first of the year to join. In addition, the Board adopted the USGA guidelines to adjust handicaps for play from different tees during an event. We have been using this USGA adjustment during the last few months and this amendment simply formalizes the adoption of the USGA guidelines. The texts of the proposed amendments follow. Article II; Section 2 Dues (Amendment): Dues are $15.00 per calendar year. The Club will bill and collect OFWW membership dues via the monthly statements in December of each year for the following calendar year. Members joining after January 1 will be billed as follows for the period in which they join: January - April $15; May August $10; and September December $5. Article III; Section 3 Handicap Adjustments (Amendment): Each member shall have a valid handicap from Kingwood Country Club. The primary tees with be the White tees markers. However, individuals may elect to play from the Blue or Gold tee markers instead. Additionally, members in the High Handicap group and the 9-Hole group have the option of playing the Red Tees on all courses, using the adjusted Red tee handicaps as provided by the USGA guidelines for playing from different tees.

4 We will vote on these amendments during our Annual Meeting. Bash: ABCD Scramble November 13 at 9:00 am Our November Bash is Thursday, November 13, on the Island course. The format: ABCD Scramble. Every player will play on the White Tees unless he meets these qualifications for the Red Tees: Hcp Index plus age totals 95 or more. Sign up on our website by November 12. Interclub Season Completed In the final days of the Interclub season, the Kingwood Lake Team edged out the Marsh Team for bragging rights in the standings. Following the play-offs, the two Kingwood teams stood second and third in the 15-team league standings. (The winner, for the third year in a row, was Walden Lake Conroe.) Congratulations to all the Interclub players on an excellent season. Playday Handicap Groupings The current groupings are: Low = <16; Middle = 17-23; High = >24 The Board continues to review the Playday handicap grouping participation numbers and will maintain the current handicap groupings based on participation results for the past several weeks. High Handicap Group Red Tees Players in the High Handicap Group (24 or more from the White tees) have the option of playing from the red tees, regardless of age, and must play with their red tee handicap. Further, any reduction in handicap (i.e., 24 reduced to a 23 due to red tee adjustment) will NOT move the player to the Middle group.

5 Red tee handicaps are now being calculated using the USGA methodology (Caution: you may see the stoke cost of playing the Red tees substantially more than you have come to expect). You can check your handicap for all tees on the OFWW webpage. Hole-in-One Pot We have 40 members signed up for our H-i-O Pot. To join the pot, just give your name and $5.00 to the Scorer during a Playday or Bash. Pot is currently $200. Pots are paid for a H-i-O made during any event opened to the OFWW membership (Playdays, Bash, Lads & Lassies). In addition, $10 is paid from the OFWW treasury. Playday Scores On regular Playdays, a Score Sheet will be on the scoring table. Please write down your name and your ESC-adjusted score on the Score Sheet. It is your responsibility to list your score on the Score Sheet. These Playday scores will then be given to the Pro Shop for GHIN entry. ESC (Equitable Stroke Control) is an adjustment of individual hole scores in order to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability. ESC is applied after the round and is only used when the actual score or the most likely score exceeds a player s maximum number. ESC sets a limit to the number of strokes a player can take on a hole depending on Course Handicap. Apply ESC to all scores, including tournament scores. Below is the maximum number a player can take:

6 Course Handicap Maximum Number 9 or less Double Bogey and above 10 Starter Duty All OFWW members are assigned Starter duties for Tuesday or Thursday regular Playdays during the year. Tom Lyda assigns the Starters and you will receive your Starter assignment notice via asking for your confirmation. If you are unable to serve on your assigned Playday, please contact another Starter for that month and switch assignments. As a member of OFWW, you are required to serve as a Starter (which means once approximately every 1.5 years. When a Starter does not show, it is disruptive to our play. Thanks for stepping up to the plate when it is your turn to be the Starter. Welcome New Members We currently have 160 members. Please welcome our newest members Dan Casey and Mike Chaddick. Remember to invite your retired friends to join OFWW and play with us.

7 Local Rules Golf clubs often apply local rules to meet local and timely situations. Here is an example temporary 1940 rules to compensate for German aircraft flying over on bombing missions. Cheers Tom
