Worth Chapter - American Singles Golf Association May 2008 Update From the President Waterchase started out windy and chilly but ended up absolutely beautiful; any day on the course is beautiful. I was fortunate enough to play with 3 awesome players: Phil who was apparently on steroids, Steve who tried to persuade the beverage cart lady to sell her jacket and Cathy who chipped in for a birdie on #12. Even with losing half a dozen golf balls, it was a great day. We had a great turn out for lunch afterwards at Pappasito's; even though I was sent to the "Kids" table. Hope to see you next time. ~Debbie Hutson, President Chapter News Waterchase, Sunday April 20 The mighty duo of Dave Petton and Don Vance won our two person scramble at Waterchase. Ben Thomas and Vernon Smith came in second on a scorecard playoff. Other winners were: Men's closest to the pin David Glasgow Ladies closest to the pin Nancy Van Cleve The club donated a free round for four, which was won in the raffle by Lisa Cox, who makes a habit of winning these things. The golf course folks really had their act together. Everything was organized. They treated us well. Next month's event is at Castle Hills in Lewisville, Saturday, May 17, 1:30 pm shotgun. Sign up early!! Summer Sizzler at Coyote Ridge June 6 Summertime is coming and things get a little wacky with the ASGA. We re going to have a special 9 hole, Friday evening event on June 6. The venue is Coyote Ridge Golf Club in Carrollton. Tee times start at 6:00 PM. If you need to arrive a little later, we can probably accommodate you. We ll just play our own ball and hang out afterwards. This will be some major stress relief after a rough week. Silliness will ensue! Let Steve DeLoach know you re coming. Details on the next page. Murray Stays! After we made all the fuss over Murray Tanner leaving in the last newsletter he decided to stay with us. Something about the $5000 per month rent up there in New York for a cardboard box made him think that maybe tele-commuting was a wise choice. We had already filled his former post, so we created a new staff level position for him called ASGA-DFW Executive Director for Global Strategy Integration Planning and Execution. From what we can gather it involves hugging Debbie a lot and just being himself. Welcome back, Murray. It s like you never left. From the Social Chair April's Happy Hour was a well-attended second visit to Texas Indoor Golf in Lewisville. Several new members and prospective members were in attendance and a good time was had by all. Food was shared, drinks not so much, laughter definitely. We had a bay set up for hitting balls and it was interesting to see people slide around in their dress shoes as they attempted their swings. The girls were smarter than the guys and kicked off their shoes to hit balls a la Sam Snead. Next Big Event: Reunion at Pinehurst, May ASGA members attended last year! There is a large indoor bar/lounge area with a dance floor and a large patio area outside overlooking the lake. No fears, there are bars both inside and out! Good food is available prepared by Chef Ty Thoren. Cowboy Troy will be the musical entertainment starting around 9:00. So bring your friends and your dancing shoes! In June, we're going to move the Happy Hour again to Dave and Buster s in Dallas at I-35 and Walnut Hill. Dave and Buster's has a good sized bar area, full menu and, of course, lots and lots of games - from skee ball to multi-player video games. Who wants to challenge the Air Hockey Master? Bring it on! We've all played video race car games before, but have you ever raced against your friends in a multi-player game? What a blast! Load up your Power Card and have fun. 5 CELEBRATING 15YEARS OF SINGLESGOLF IN AMERICA AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION MAY 2008 Event Dates: Thursday, May 22 Sunday, May 25, 2008 Want to Meet 400 Singles from Around the U. S.? If you re going to register, go online and do it now. Only about 80 slots left! Our reunion is almost here... now, just a matter of days golf in Pinehurst, North Carolina... becoming a reality. Just the thought of telling your friends you ve played in Pinehurst... the location of the 1951 Ryder Cup, the 1999 and 2005 U. S. Opens. It s a chance of a lifetime. The package we re offering, if you paid for it on your own, has been priced at $ The ASGA special rate is slightly above five hundred dollars, a true savings and great benefit of membership. We ve publicized this event since February and we re headed towards another great event. Now, it s up to you and your fellow members to make that call, to visit the website, to do whatever you have to do to get to Pinehurst. Three days of fun, fellowship and fairways. After Pinehurst, Look Forward to These Trips ASGA, through its member chapters, offer other events which allow you to meet singles from other chapters. All members are invited and encouraged to attend these Multi-Chapter Events. There s nothing like meeting up with a bunch of other singles for a weekend of golf. Each package is basically the same but there are differences, so we suggest you visit the website for the event. And, if you re chapter s interested in hosting one of these events, prepared to put a lot of work into it. But the reward of having singles play in your city and play your favorite courses is a life experience, well, hopefully! Contact ASGA to clear the date and then get your Board of Directors to give local approval. Then, start putting it together! Absolutely not. We get asked this question from time to time because people get unsolicited mail and s from others thinking it might have come from us. Since Day One, we ve made it a policy not to sell, trade, barter, give-away or any in way pass along your information to others. Likewise, we ask that members refrain from using their chapter s roster for non-asga related solicitations, mailings, jokes, etc. We all get enough .
