From the President Officers President: Danny Boyle Vice-Pres: Jim Goldsack Secretary: Ted Pogue Treasurer: Tom Vardase Board of Directors Marion Blackmon 2020 Zach Gabert 2020 Larry Phillips 2020 Lamar Frazier 2019 Claude Rhen 2019 Tom Schultz 2019 Jim Ruiz 2018 Cleve Shupe 2018 Bobby Wheeler 2018 Past President Danny Huckaby Chaplain Jim Adams Table Captains Monday Jim Means Tuesday Danny Boyles Wednesday Keith Boehringer Thursday Jim Goldsack Danny Boyles (770) First, I want to congratulate new SGAA member Bob Remich for his Hole-In-One at the Oaks Golf Course August 7, 2018! It is my understanding Bob was playing his first official round as an SGAA member. Don t know how you are going to top that Bob, but when you have time, I m open for a lesson. We ve just finished a great outing at Brasstown Valley Resort. This was a fun outing, with 52 golfers on Monday and Tuesday, and 38 on Wednesday. The service and hospitality were outstanding. The golf course was in great shape, but not easy. I don t know how they got all that sand over those mountains. I think everyone had a good time. Many newsletters contain something about slow play and remind us to pick-up the pace, but not from me, this time. I am going to say thank you to all who attended Brasstown and SGAA members in general. While meeting with the Pro and Marshals at Brasstown, I was told that we are one of the most organized group they ve encountered. The Pro said our SGAA members understand ready golf and that we know how to keep up the pace of play. I think we are doing better everywhere and Brasstown was just an example of what you do every day. September is going to be busy with the Annual Tournament at Golf Course. We have a few changes for this year s tournament. First, we will no longer play to double par, but will play to double bogey like every other dogfight tournament. Second, we will play hole #6 from the back tees and make it a par 5. This will make the course play as a par 72. I look forward to seeing all at Lane Creek in September. The Member/Guest info is attached to this newsletter and should contain all the info you need to get registered. Beachfront rooms are going fast. If you need additional info, I m sure Claude will help. On a sour note, there was an incident at Providence Club where one of the residents called the Pro Shop and complained that someone was using foul language loud enough to disturb them in their back yard. I find it hard to believe one of our members was guilty of this offense. I know we all miss those putts that were once given. So, be mindful of your surroundings and respect those with sensitive ears. While it was an adult this time, it could have been a child. A list of those running for office is listed below. If your name is not on the list and you want to run, contact the nominating committee and let them know. All nomination must be in by Sept 15, We need good people to step-up and keep SGAA running strong. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and three putts the 18 th green? Fred Corcoran

Vice President Jim Goldsack (770) AND THE DAYS DWINDLE DOWN TO A PRECIOUS FEW The Annual Tournament time is here. You may play all nine days, but only the four best scores count to determine your position in your flight. This year, for the first time, we will be playing the same type game as we have been playing all year, maximum double bogey, then pick up. Do not forget to putt out, no gimmes. If you pick up before the ball goes into the cup, your score is a double bogey. Please check the web site as there have been two changes in the play dates for the Annual Tournament. The Member Guest event is fast upon us. Secure your reservation before it s too late. President Boyles, assisted by Claude Rhen and Danny Huckaby, has made fantastic arrangements for all attending this event. Remember those BAG TAGS I have been mentioning for these past several months, well I have seven left. I am not going to list the names, as that has not produced the desired results. The remaining tags will be displayed every Thursday during the Annual Tournament. Pick yours up if you want it.

That s right, we re searching for volunteers to consider the prospect of holding an office. This is your opportunity to help SGAA to continue to run smoothly and to help it grow. So far, we have had the following members step forward and have their names placed in nomination for the following offices: (Names are listed in alphabetical order by last name.) President Vice President Secretary Board of Directors Jim Goldsack Bill Palmer; Ron Panter Ted Pogue Keith Boehringer; Frank Gudger; Harvey Hancock; Danny Huckaby; Dave Mueller If you know of someone you think would be ideal for one of these offices, make sure that person is willing to serve and then contact any member of the nominating committee. The nominating committee is chaired by Danny Huckaby assisted by Ted Pogue; Tom Schultz; and Jim Ruiz. Deadline for nominations is September 15, 2018 I have been assured by the current administration that should you agree to have your name placed in consideration for any office, you will not be subject to investigation by the Russian Collusion Committee and we don t really care who you were dating, or not dating, in your teenage years.

From the Editor Steve Puster Rambling from Tee to Green Our Annual Association Tournament will be held at and our rules are the same as for our weekly dogfight tournaments, we play each hole to DOUBLE BOGEY. Putt EVERYTHING out! It never hurts to refresh your memory regarding the rules which most often affect the course of our play. USGA, PGA and local course rules shall govern play, except as noted below. While SGAA Rules may seem to be very tolerant it is for the benefit of the members and to promote speedier play. SGAA Option: A player may pick up to identify, clean or exchange a ball that comes to rest anywhere within the boundaries of the golf course and replace the ball one club length, or within one club length, no closer to the hole without penalty except on the green*. The ball must be placed in the same environment (1st cut, 2nd cut, rough, etc.) as it originally came to rest. If a ball cannot be played within one club length and still considered unplayable it can be moved any distance on a line of entry back towards the last point the ball was struck with a one stroke penalty. *On the Green a player may mark the ball s location and pick up to identify, clean or exchange his ball. Ball must be replaced at the mark where it was picked up. 1 Lateral Hazard (Red Stake) Option 1 - Play it from the hazard. Option 2 - Replay the shot from the original position, incurring a stroke and distance penalty. Option 3 - Draw a line from the hole to where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard and drop anywhere behind that point keeping the point between you and the hole, incurring a one-shot penalty. Option 4 - Go to the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard and drop within two (2) club lengths, no nearer the hole, one either side of the hazard, incurring a oneshot penalty. 2 Water Hazard (Yellow Stake) Option 1 - Play it from the hazard. Option 2 - Replay the shot from the original position, incurring a stroke and distance penalty. Option 3 Draw a line from the hole to where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard and drop anywhere behind that point keeping the point between you and the hole, incurring a one-shot penalty. 3 Lost Ball or Out-of Bounds After looking for a maximum of five (5) minutes, you must go back to where the shot was originally played from and replay, incurring a stroke and distance penalty. SGAA Option: After looking for a maximum of three (3) minutes the player may place his ball any distance along the flight of the ball where it went out of bounds, or is lost. The penalty still applies. 4 Unplayable Lie in a bunker Option 1 Take a drop of no more than two (2) club lengths no closer to the hole, but still in the bunker, incurring a onestroke penalty. Option 2 Replay the shot from the original position, incurring a stroke and distance penalty. Option 3 Go back as far as you like in the bunker and drop, keeping that spot where your ball laid between you and the hole. This incurs a one-shot penalty. SGAA Option: If your ball lies in a foot print, any untended sand marks from a previous player, maintenance equipment, you may pick up your ball, rake the area of untended marks and replace your ball in the same spot without penalty. Also any ball resting in water or mud can be pulled out and placed one club length no closer to the hole but still in the trap or bunker, without penalty. 5 Removing Objects in a Bunker You may not move or remove any loose impediments in the bunker unless they are foreign to the area. For example you may remove a candy wrapper, but you may not remove a pine cone or tree branch. 6 Number of Allowed Clubs You are only allowed to carry 14 clubs in your bag. The penalty is two (2) strokes per hole (maximum of two holes/four shots). 7 Casual Water Find your nearest point of relief, not closer to the hole where neither you nor your ball lie in water that can be seen without pressing your feet up or down. You may then drop your ball within one (1) club length from that point, no nearer to the hole at no penalty. 8 Grounding your club in a hazard Practice swings may be taken inside a hazard as long as you don t touch the ground, sand, or water with your club. The top of the grass may be touched during a practice swing. The penalty for grounding your club is a two-shot penalty. 9 Repairing the Line of Your Putt You may repair any ball marks in your line and remove any pebbles or foreign objects in your line, provided you do it with your hand or club. You may not fix spike marks or fan the ground with a towel or cap to remove sand or foreign objects. This is a two-shot penalty. 10 Flagstick in or out If you are not on the green you may leave the flagstick in the hole. However, once you strike the ball the flagstick must remain either in or out whichever the case as the ball was struck. Moving the flagstick after the ball has been struck is a two-shot penalty. If you are on the green, the flagstick must be removed from the hole before the ball is struck. A competitor my tend the pin but the flagstick must be removed from the hole before the ball arrives. This is a two-stroke penalty.

LOST AND FOUND Effective immediately, any found items should be turned into the table for that day s tournament. Those items will be held by the table until it is time to depart the course, at which time the table will turn any found items over to the course pro shop. NOMINATIONS ARE DUE Who s that guy you play golf with every week?? You know, the one with the suggestions; yea that guy! Now s his chance to see how things are done and to help. Get his approval and nominate him for one of the offices up for election. BY SEPTEMBER 15th A U.S. citizen is vacationing on his own in Ireland. He decides to play a round of golf and is paired with three local gentlemen. He takes a few practice swings, steps up to the first tee, and proceeds to hook the ball out of bounds. He shakes his head, reaches in his pocket, and re-tees another ball. He tells his playing partners that he is taking a mulligan. He pounds one down the center of the fairway about 270 yards out. With a big smile, he asks the others In the U.S., we call that a Mulligan; was wondering what you called it here in Ireland. After a moment of silence, one of the locals replies, Just like in SGAA - Hitting three.
