1 Dedicated to Good Golf and Fine Fellowship SGAA Newsletter, October Officers President: Larry Thomas Vice-Pres: Danny Huckaby Secretary: Ted Pogue Treasurer: Jesse Dooley Board of Directors Larry Phillips 2015 Lamar Frazier 2015 Ed Nugent 2015 Pierce Richardson 2016 Jimmy Robinson 2016 Claude Rhen 2016 Joe Roberts 2017 Danny Boyles 2017 Harvey Hancock 2017 Past President Pierce Richardson Chaplin Jim Adams Table Captains Monday Ed Walke Tuesday Jimmy Robinson Wednesday Larry Phillips Thursday Jim Goldsack by Larry Thomas Member/Guest Report In spite of 11 inches of rain, we had two great days of golf, great accommodations (except for a few that had their rooms flooded), good food, dancing, and great comradery. Cameo (hotel) and Jessica (food) did a fantastic job to make our trip enjoyable. I appreciate everyone that attended and I hope you enjoyed the outing as much as I did. A special thanks goes to Claude Rhen and Howard Smith for another successful Member/Guest. Member Participation I want to encourage everyone to consider getting involved with the organization. Talk with the volunteers working the Tables; get an officer or Board member to let you know about other volunteer opportunities, find out about all the committees we have, and start volunteering. It is through the efforts, kindness, and goodness of our volunteers that keep this GREAT organization running and we always need fresh blood --- I mean volunteers. I have had numerous responsibilities since I joined SGAA and I relish each and every one. Some opportunities may have been trying at times, sometimes I made mistakes, but I always had a great time working with great people. Respecting the Golf Course This is an unwritten SGAA Rule that needs repeating and it extends to instructions or requests from the Pro or Greens Keeper regarding carts on the course, 90 degree rule, divot repair, housekeeping, or staying X number of yards from the green. Our volunteers bear the brunt of these complaints, but ultimately, abuses impact our fees to play, the number of rounds allowed, and in some cases, not allowed back at all. Please display proper course care while representing SGAA, bad behavior reflects on all of us. I believe pace of play also comes under this topic. If 90% of the group finishes in 4 hours, there is absolutely NO reason for a few to take 5 to 5 ½ hours. Your slow play imposes on the valuable time of the volunteers waiting for you to play your game. Ready Golf does not mean playing fast; it means playing smart without delays and taking your shot as timely as possible. Please consider this on your next round. Respect for others goes a long way in group play.

2 SGAA Newsletter, October 2015 Drop Zones On a course where there is NO clearly marked drop zone you must drop in a line from your previous shot and prior to the hazard (water) your first shot entered. You cannot take your next shot from a few feet off the green unless the course has a clearly marked and/or defined it as a drop zone. Golfism: Adolf Hitler A shot that doesn t make it out of the bunker, or two shots in a bunker. Senior Rule 2.d.6 (b) - A ball hitting a tree shall be deemed not to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no place in a scientific game. The senior player must estimate the distance the ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree and play the ball from there. <Not a real SGAA rule> Vice President Danny Huckaby In the September newsletter I said I would have a full month. Boy was I right. It started off in Lexington, Kentucky and ended in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Played 7 rounds of golf in Lexington, which I will not tell you about because they were terrible. Came home thinking I was ready for our club tournament. I must have been dreaming I was awful. So I told myself I ll do good in Ft. Walton Beach. Going to see my Doctor next week, he is going to have to change my meds. TOURNAMENTS FOR September Oct 5, 6, 7 Mon, Tues, Wed Lane Creek $25 Oct 12, 13 Mon, Tues Panola Mtn $26 Oct 14 Wed Cotton Fields $25 Oct 19 Mon The Oaks $30 Oct 20, 21 Tues, Wed C C Gwinnett $28 Little Ocmulgee Oct 26, 27, 28 Mon, Tues, Wed Out of Town I would like to thank Larry Thomas for the job he did setting things up in Ft. Walton. I thought it was great. I know he didn t want it to rain Monday but that part was out of his hands. And just think, if I had played golf, I would not have had the chance to go in about every store in the area. It was great to see old friends and be able to meet and play with some new ones on their first Member Guest trip. I hope they start going on all of them. Stayed over Wednesday night and had a great dinner with Claude and Pattie Rhen. Told them how much the members appreciate the work he does for us. You tell him also the next time you see him. Danny #2 wants to thank everyone for asking how he knee is doing. I hope Jim Reid has a speedy recovery from his fall and broken wrist.
