2 Dedicated to Good Golf and Fine Fellowship Vice President Jim Goldsack (770) No more talk about golf, speeding up play, putting out, or abiding by the rules, proper completion of Score cards, and especially no more talk of BAG TAGS. The subject this month is the SENIOR GOLF- ERS ASSOCIATION OF ATLANTA. It is important to recognize and remember we all volunteered to join this organization, we were not drafted. I say this because when I was drafted into the Army, I quickly learned about and abided by the age old axiom do not volunteer for anything. The SGAA is comprised of 296 members, and of that number, 28 are involved in the day to day, week to week and month to month operation. So, approximately 10% give of their time, talent and energy to keep this organization up and running. What do they do you ask? Many multitask, that is, serve on more than one committee. The Table Committee, In Town Tournament Committee, Handicap Committee, Parliamentarian and Web Master Committee are but a few of the units keeping us going. For more information, go to our web site and click on Committee What are your talents; Computers, Software, Finance, Management, Common Sense? Whichever, there is a place for you on at least one of these committees. For years, I was content to just play golf. Then one day I decided to take an active role in the operation of the SGAA, and since have met more people, made more friends and enhanced my knowledge of this entity. I hope many of you will do the same. Our goal is to have more than one or two people knowledgeable and capable of performing a particular function. Will you help us achieve this goal?? If yes, please see or contact me. Raffle Tickets will be available for purchase until the drawing on October16th at the Member-Guest outing. You do not have to be there to win one of the prizes, but hopefully you will attend that event. Please see me to purchase the winning ticket. Congratulations!! Yes congratulations to all 110 members who participated in this years Annual Tournament. A special congratulations is in order to the 2018 SGAA Club Champion and to the Flight Champions Pat Parisi Club Champion Pat Hold Alan Golden Tom Schultz Richard Phillips Flight A Champion Flight B Champion Flight C Champion Flight D Champion And Thank You to the Tournament Committee for all your had work.

4 From the Editor Steve Puster Dedicated to Good Golf and Fine Fellowship Rambling from Tee to Green The longest drive and the shortest putt all count the same on the scorecard, and that was never more painfully true than on Sunday at the Shaw Charity Classic on the PGA Tour Champions. Tied with eventual champion Scott McCarron on the 17th hole, Joe Durant nonchalantly stepped up to his short par putt and missed it. The dropped stroke put him one behind, and following an 18th hole birdie by McCarron, Durant needed an eagle to force a playoff. Instead, Durant could only muster a birdie of his own, falling one agonizing shot short of the title. And that Gentlemen is why there are no gimmes and we putt everything out! Do you have a perfect golf swing? Can you strike the golf ball with a perfectly square clubface and path 100% of the time? If so, this tip is not for you. The next time you find yourself in the trees, and you are forced to punch back out in the fairway, try using this tip. If there is a tree blocking your line of play, aim for it unless of course, it s massively wide, or you are very close to it. Chances are, you won t be able to hit the tree when you aim directly at it. Let s face it, we aren t perfect, and our golf shots reflect that; if we were perfect, the tree wouldn t be in our way. AWARD POINTS The end of the year is approaching very quickly and soon it will be time to send out checks for your award points. Treasurer, Tom Vardase, wants to be sure your check is delivered to the correct address. Please check the current roster to make sure your address is correct; any changes need to be forwarded to both our Secretary (Ted Pogue [tandgpogue@att.net]) and Treasurer (Tom Vardase [mvp-bestt@att.net]) as soon as possible. IT S ELECTION TIME AGAIN!!!! We will elect a President and a Vice President, each to serve a one-year term; a Secretary for a twoyear term; and three members to the Board of Directors each to serve three-year terms. The following pages will provide a brief background of each of the candidates and their involvement in SGAA.
