1 ANNOUNCING THE 2012 SHANGHAI OPEN FOOSBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SUMMARY Friday April 27 to Sunday April 29 at Bubba s Expo Village, Shanghai Pudong, China. Please also see our separate poster and location map. More questions? Just contact us. For everyone s convenience, we have put the event schedule in a separate document as well. It is still subject to revisions as we get feedback from players. PLEASE REGISTER TODAY OR WE CANNOT ESTIMATE ENOUGH TABLES, TIMING, ETC.!! Contact Fred at or Zheng Bin or fred_gower@yahoo.ca REGISTER NOW TO SAVE MONEY! At the door, 40 RMB per event individually or 300 RMB for all events. Or, HALF PRICE IF YOU REGISTER EARLY (prior to March 2). Plus, an extra 10% off if you travel 500+kms to attend. As an example Steven from Lanzhou registered early for all events would be 135 RMB (300 divided by two, less 10%). If you live outside of Shanghai, we will take your word for paying your fees, but please register early. If you live in Shanghai and want the special price then please register today and pay your fees no later than Friday March 2 nd. After that it is still a great deal at only 300 RMB for all events. NO TABLE FEES DETAILS We challenge you to a table soccer contest of: Amateur Events (we hate the word Rookie ), Semi- Pro Events, and Open events for Pros and everyone else. If it is a ranked event (e.g. Amateur or Semi Pro), players can play in their rank or above but not in events below their ranking. So, Professionals cannot play in Amateur events, but Amateurs can play in all events currently planned. We already have interest or confirmations for players coming from: Australia, Hong Kong, Lanzhou, Harbin, Dalian, Shenzhen and of course Shanghai. We are happy to say that we have 6,000 RMB prize money but of course even more important is the competition itself, the beautiful trophies and certificates plus honor and bragging rights! New style trophies this year too The matches will be played on the latest Fireball tables under ITSF rules and using the current generation red Tornado ball. The latest Fireball orange ball is being updated and we will test it out in some fun matches to get your feedback.

2 This will also be a great opportunity to visit Shanghai, one of the most interesting and exciting cities in the world, as well as having an opportunity to show your foosball skills on the newest and best- designed foosball table in the world. The Fireball table is now an official ITSF table and will likely be sold in your region soon if not already. If you have not tried it yet, this is your chance to try it out first hand. Most events will be Winner s side play Best of Three race to 5 format. Loser s side play Single Game race to 7 format (see below). The Open events will be best of 3 for winners and losers side. Handicap is only for events listed as Handicapped. Amateurs +0, Semi Pros +1, Pros +2, Pro Masters +3. If it doesn t say Handicapped for the event, it isn t! So, in the best of Three Handicapped Format: Win 2 out of 3 games to win the match. First to 5 goals for lower ranked team. Higher ranked team goes to 5 plus handicap for doubles, 5 plus double their handicap for singles. It s easier than it sounds and we will explain it at the event. But, if it is not handicapped, then just a simple race to either 5 or 7 for both teams. No added handicapped goals for any team. Single Game Format: Win 1 game to win the match. Lower ranked team goes to 7, higher ranked team goes to 7 plus their handicap for doubles and to 7 plus double their handicap for singles. Goalie war and forward shootout is not the same format as a singles event because players are only playing one set of rods and therefore it is only a single handicap. Losers final match goes back to best of three format (see above). RANKINGS Pro Master (+3) No one in China. Maybe Tony Spredeman type players if they ever visit us again. Especially the players that we have not seen play yet. We will play on Fireball tables with the red Tornado ball. We will try to have 10 tables at the event.. All will have good lighting and be well maintained. So en if eliminated early there should still be a fun play table available much of the time.

4 VOLUNTEERS Running the event is too much for one person to do so we are counting on volunteers to call matches, look for players who go missing, report results, referee matches, run errands, etc. Thanks for volunteering everyone! Ha ha LOCATION Once again our host location will be Bubba s Expo Village. A little hard to find but lots of space. Drink and food locations and friendly staff. No outside food or drinks please and really hoping that more of our players will buy food and beverages from our host. The alternative in the future is to locate in a hotel or other facility ad raise entry fees to pay for location rent. Thanks for your help here. When you register please let us know if you plan on eating and drinking at Bubba s so we can do a better job of helping the plan for our event. If you do not plan on eating or drinking there that is fine. We just hope that most will. As before Bubba s will be providing free filtered water. 5 Getting anywhere in Shanghai is easy and cheap by taxi. Although taxis are difficult to find during rush hours and when it is raining. Most drivers speak very little or no English so you will need addresses of your destinations in English and Chinese so you can just print it out identify the right one and point at the corresponding address in Chinese. Let us know if you require this and we will make one up for you.
