2 Golf News and Updates Get Golf Ready Bella Vista Golf Operations has completed the first two Get Golf Ready in 5 Days programs and the response was amazing! I just finished the Get Golf Ready program and wanted to thank you. It took me from beginning rookie to course rookie and now I have the confidence to actually get out on the courses and try real golf for the first time in my 60-year old life. It s a great price; the value of the program was more than I could resist, and now I am hooked. The instructor was professional, fun, very helpful, very patient. The program also allows participants complimentary usage of the Driving Range, Chipping & Putting Greens during the five weeks. 3 Lakes News and Updates Granton Landing Small Boat Rack The new small boat rack is complete. The upper rack and the lower right quadrant will be used for kayaks, canoes, and other narrow boats, while the lower left quadrant will be used for paddle boats and jon boats. Boat owners are required to provide their own means of attachment for security. Yearly fees are $67.00 and can be paid through Member Services. Racks are also available near the Avalon Park, Lake Ann Park, London Landing, and Pontoon Park. Future upgrades will be based on the success of this project. Tanyard Creek Nature Trail Group The Tanyard Creek Nature Trail group is a long-established volunteer organization focused on maintaining the trail s natural beauty. While the POA handles the larger projects, this group handles the important upkeep of branch removal, litter pickup, maintaining signage and other often unnoticed but appreciated tasks. Relying on public donations at a trailhead drop box, this group is in need of larger donations and additional volunteers. Please contact Randy Hamm at or randydhamm@ gmail.com for more information. The Bella Vista Bluebirds Society Needs Your Help! Approximately 30 Bluebird boxes in several locations were destroyed in the recent flood. Each bluebird box is made of rough cedar which is expensive ($30 for an 8 2 x12 ) plus fence post, baffle and other supplies. Donations as small as $20 would be very helpful at this time while the bluebirds are actively nesting. Southern Naiad The Role of Aquatic Vegetation in Bella Vista Lakes It s all about perspective. Aquatic vegetation in Bella Vista lakes tends to be something lake users either love or hate. True, various aquatic plants can cause problems in shallow water and around private docks. Vegetation can interfere with swimming and can be pulled into boat motors causing them to overheat, but this rarely occurs. We get calls with concerns about filamentous algae in the spring and early summer. There are circumstances where treatment is warranted especially when access to boat ramps and docks is limited. Filamentous algae is a problem that can manifest itself almost overnight. As long as environmental conditions are favorable, it can come back almost as quickly as we can treat it. Therefore, we ask for a little patience and understanding during these times as total eradication could consume our entire lakes budget in just a few months. We have an array of native submersed aquatic plants, such as southern and brittle naiad, pondweed, elodea, and coontail. It serves as a place holder to keep potential invasives such as hydrilla at bay. Some fishermen have a favorable impression of hydrilla, but we do not want invasive hydrilla in any of the Bella Vista Lakes. Native plants also serve as excellent nursery habitat for all fish. In fact we had what appears to be a rare successful spawn of black crappie on Loch Lomond last year due in large part to the presence of southern naiad. Connections bellavistapoa.com

6 Recreation News & Updates Check out the NEW Tent Camping at Blowing Springs Park Want a fun, economical way to entertain the family this summer? Bring the kids and your tent and try a night or two camping the old fashioned way. We have 12 sites available at Blowing Springs Park --- each site comes with a picnic table, campfire pit and parking spot. No water or electric is available immediate to these primitive spots but access is available within the park. You will also have access to the restrooms/showers. 7 Summer Camps & More Camp Bella Vista Starts the week of June 5 and runs through the week of July 24. Activities include arts and crafts, outdoor games and sports and swimming. Camp is open to those 7-12 years old and campers can attend Monday 12-4 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m. 4 p.m., or Friday 9 a.m. 4 p.m. or all three days for just $75 (weekly). To register stop by Riordan Hall. Junior Tennis Camp Offered the week of June 12, July 10 and July 31. The camp meets Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. 2:30 p.m. and includes a free lunch.
