5 A Word From Our Clubhouse Manager Happy New Year CCC! To begin, I have a great many Thank You s that I would like to share with the membership. I would like to begin by again thanking the LGA for the time they spent early on this holiday season decorating the Clubhouse. It was so very nice to be welcomed by a warm festive feeling each day upon entering CCC. I hope many of you had felt the same enjoyment. Thanks Ladies!! Secondly, I would like to thank the members that helped make December 2011 the great month that it was. For those of you who chose to bring your holiday parties/banquets to CCC as well as those who managed to find the time to dine with us in and amongst your busy holiday schedules, the staff and I greatly appreciate your patronage. As busy as it remained for the food and beverage department, I do believe it is important to mention that Benny handled this traffic with flying colors. Moving forward, I would like to thank those members who have cooperated with me in my request for committee participation. I know many of you have very little spare time to share, and we hope you know that your dedication has not and will not go unnoticed. We hope that these very important committee meetings can aid us in our strides to increase membership and ultimately rebuild CCC to the notable numbers of the past. Also, on behalf of the staff and myself I would like to send out a huge thank you across the membership for the kind donations to the Employee Christmas Fund this year. We hope to make you proud and show our gratitude with top-notch levels of service in the year to come. Lastly, and most recently, I would like to thank the supportive members who joined us for our New Year s Eve Extravaganza! I truly believe the night could NOT have gone better! The staff and I would not only like to thank you for your participation but also for the all the kind words you all shared with us about your thoughts on the evening. We hope to see many more events like this in CCC s future. Coming up this winter will be the first Winter Kid s Night Out on Friday, January 20th from and Family Bingo Night on Saturday, January 29th also from. Details on both events will be soon to follow via . Early on in February is a tentatively scheduled Ladies Bunko Night. I am looking for suggestions on preferable dates and time. Contact me with any suggestions, Ladies! Lastly, on behalf of Chris Sparrow and myself, I would like to share with you some upcoming changes in service that will be effective as of January 1st. As we all know, the cold winter season is approaching us here at CCC. Although we were blessed with some gorgeous days in late fall and early winter, we realize that we may face a few slow months in early 2012 due to unfortunate weather. With that in mind, the CCC Management team is making a concerted effort to mind, and ultimately decrease costs and spending. Please note that although we have reduced spending levels to that of 2002, the dramatic decrease in revenue has left us with no other choice than to enact further plans. We wish to make the membership aware that our plan going forward is to decease personnel, facility-wide, in January and February of We have avoided cuts to service in the past but with the financial dilemma that we are currently up against, we must be proactive in this respect. As play on the course decreases, all departments of the club face the residual effects. We will make the appropriate adjustments to payroll without sacrificing services to the best of our ability. Should the Golf Course, Golf Shop, or Clubhouse be overwhelmed on any particular day during this time, we ask that you are patient with us as we will do all that we can to serve you in the timely manner that you deserve. Be on the lookout for informational s pertaining to club closures as we may make last minute decisions based on weather that we face unexpectedly. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. 7 A Word From Our Superintendent In stark contrast to 2010, the final quarter of 2011 has been relatively dry with mild temperatures. The favorable weather has allowed the Golf Course Maintenance staff to concentrate on completing our winter project list while keeping the course in great condition. Last month, we finished repairing the overflow structure at #6 pond. This repair consisted of us dropping the water level in the pond 7 feet to patch the broken concrete. We were able to re-fill the pond using our irrigation system along with a timely rainstorm. In addition, we have removed more than 45 trees around the course and have finished leveling irrigation heads around the greens. In January, we will continue removing selected trees around the course, leveling irrigation heads around tees, fairways, and roughs, and will begin the repair to the pond at #9. We will monitor the weather conditions and begin our winter post-emergent herbicide application when appropriate. This herbicide application will be targeting Poa annua and other winter weeds. As you can see, we have had a successful winter thus far and plan to continue our progress into the spring. Thanks for your continued support and complements. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and are as excited as we are about the upcoming year. December was a great month at CCC and I hope everyone had the opportunity to utilize your club club and take advantage of the phenomenal weather to play golf as well as enjoy the many holiday parties and club dinners. Scott, Jason and myself are preparing for the new tournament season. The sports committee recently met to discuss the Proposed Tournament schedule for Please take a moment to review it and help us identify any potential problems/conflicts before the schedule is finalized. Your input and suggestions are greatly appreciated. The staff would like to thank everyone who came out to the Golf Shop Open House. There was an abundance of eating, drinking and shopping done by all. Everyone had a good time and greatly contributed to the success of the sale! The New Year s Extravaganza was also well attended and we thank everyone for their support. We look forward to seeing everyone around the club and at the Big Cup Tournament Saturday, January 21 st. We played a lot of golf in December this year, what fun! We start our new season March 1 st, but we have a kickoff breakfast the 3 rd week in February followed by a round of golf! Hopefully we will have nice weather like December. Anybody that would like to chair a tournament should contact either myself or the Tournament Chairperson, Nina Greene. We have some exciting new things happening for next year, such as an additional member/member on a Saturday so that all our working ladies can participate. Any other suggestions for the year will be welcome. Tee times for January, February, and March are 9:30 am. If the weather permits, please call the pro shop and let them know you would like to play. A Few Golf Notes for 2012: Handicap Fees for 2012: Fees will be billed in January - $30 a person / $55 a couple Senior Tees for 2012: Beginning January 1, the requirements to play the Black Tees (senior tees) will change from 65 to 62 years of age. The 10 scores posted rule to play the black tees in tournaments no longer applies. In other words, all men 62 and older are eligible to play the black tees. For the Senior Club Championship, competitors will compete from the WHITE tees and those age 62 and above can compete from the BLACK tees if they choose. Hole in One Club 2012: Don t forget to sign up for the HOLE IN ONE CLUB. The cost will be $5 per hole in one. Each hole in one will receive $100 in bar credit (on member s account), a plaque with a picture of the hole and the balance going to Pro Shop credit. Sign up in the Golf Shop.
