2 Volume 4 May 2018 Nomads News Official Newsletter of Nomads Golf Club Perth Western Australia Fr Editorial by Fred Meijer A gloomy, drizzly day dawned at Hartfield but this did not deter dedicated Nomads and guests trundling out onto the course for a shotgun start. Trying to find the starting holes in the overcast, wet conditions wasn t an easy task but most managed to tee-up at 7:15am. As play continued, the weather gods appeared to start playing along and most of the field managed to return to the clubhouse dry. all in all, another day in paradise, great company, a good few laughs and let s just say, whatever happened on the course, stays on the course. With all that said and done, the Fines Master, Warwick Smith still managed to fleece most of the field out of a few gold coins (and in some instances, a floater or two) The Fr -editor would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the great work being done by our Digital Media Officer, Craig Le Roux on our recently revamped Website. 3 Captain s Corner Dear Nomads and friends, Despite some challenging conditions Hartfield Country Club we had a field of 52 players (42 Nomads, 5 Prospective Members and 5 Guests) with really testing greens and challenging pin positions. A dash of wind and a drizzle of rain made playing golf even more interesting! It was my pleasure to induct and welcome Mason le Roux to the Nomads family. In addition to the Knoxies (Andy and Tim) we have another father and son team at Nomads. We have a revamped website thanks to Craig le Roux. Many thanks to Craig for his efforts on this front; we are the envy of all the Nomads clubs in Australia given the quality of our digital information management given Craig s tireless efforts. We are nearing our 5 year anniversary as Nomads in Perth. To celebrate this milestone, we will be having an anniversary dinner will at Blu Grill in Woodlands on 7 July 2018 and an anniversary game at Joondalup on 8 July I invite all of you, past and present Nomads, including partners, to join us for the dinner. Please let B Anderson as soon as possible of your intention to attend. I look forward to seeing you there! 4 SHOOTING FROM THE LIP.. Wet, Soggy, Unreadable scorecards The first bit of rain in the 2018 playing year resulted in a large number of soggy, wet, crumpled, and in some cases, unreadable, scorecards being handed in to the scorekeepers. This makes our task of checking cards, compiling prize sheets and results sheets very stressful and time consuming. All of you should, by now, have scorecard holders. If not, see Garth Ellis prior to teeing up at Carramar to purchase your scorecard holder. At $5, cheap at half the price. Those who hand in wet, soggy and unreadable scorecards, will, at future rainy days, will have their wallets severely lightened by the Fines Master. Daily Handicap Calculator By Craig Le Roux An interesting little calculator for you to use. It works out your daily handicap and is only valid for the specific golf course you are playing on any particular day. We do not have the normal golf handicap anymore as this has been replaced by the GA Index and then, through the use of the calculator, a daily handicap. Please note: Your Nomads handicap is not the same as your GA or Daily handicap. Go to : type in your Golf Link number, in Club Name, enter the name of the golf course you will be playing, select the tee you will be playing from. The handicap is calculated automatically and appears on the form as DAILY HANDICAP. That is your handicap for that particular day on that particular golf course. It can only be used when playing a game OUTSIDE of Nomads. As mentioned, your Nomads handicap may be totally different from this calculation result Late Withdrawals This must be the nightmare that keeps Match Secretaries awake at night. A lot of work goes into preparing a draw for any monthly game and having players withdraw at the last minute throws a massive spanner in the works resulting in the Match Secretary having to scramble around, filling empty spots and having to re-draw 4-balls / 3-balls. Simple solution.1. Check out the playing calendar which is well publicised on the Nomads Website, 2. Check your own calendar to check whether you are available to play, 3. Register your intention to play, 4. Once the draw has been publicised and you need to withdraw, notify the Match Secretary IMMEDIATELY 5. If you need to withdraw, for whatever reason, do so at least 24hrs prior to the game, 6.If you withdraw within the 24hr period, contact the Match Secretary by telephone to advise. DO NOT PHONE HIM ON THE DAY OF PLAY as this causes major upheaval. No-shows and late withdrawals (inside of 24hrs), will result in you having to pay match day fees as some venues charge for no-shows.
