It won t be long before we are all back at the resort enjoying the summer. The winter has been busy with reservations, and opening day will be here before we know it. Check out our discounts and specials for RV sites, cabins and cottages, along with Golf and Marina specials. See the 2016 Extras & Specials page in this newsletter. We have also included the 2016 Activities and Events schedule, but you can find it on our website, too We look forward to welcoming all of you returning next season and to meeting those who are new to Apple Island. Arrival To Do List Here are a few reminders for you as you return to your summer homes: Upon arrival at the resort, please register at the Office and pick up your Welcome Packet. Turn on the main water, electric, & propane. De-winterize and flush all pipes, sinks, washers, icemakers, & dishwashers. Open all windows & doors and let the warm, fresh air in. Make sure all vents are opened as needed. Plug in & turn on your refrigerator & freezer. Freshen them up with a white vinegar and/or baking soda scrub. Contact your cable & phone providers. Forward your mail (if necessary). Gather all your dryer sheets & reuse them as dog hair removers, show shiners, car buffers, etc. Wash & warm up your golf carts. Take a spin around the neighborhood. Complete all 2016 registration documents & return them to the Office to receive your new AIR car decal. North American Family Campers Association (NAFCA) Apple Island Resort is looking forward to sharing a fun week of camping & entertainment with the NAFCA group during the week of July 16-23, This large, family campers group will be here in force with more than 60 confirmed reservations. NAFCA is a non-profit organization run by its member volunteers. Members are families & individuals who simply enjoy group camping because of the long-lasting friendships made & the activities they participate in. You can visit for more information and details.

4 H a p p e n i n g s a t t h e M a r i n a Dean Jennings will return to the resort as the Marina Manager this year. Dean is a retired US Navy Lieutenant Commander & US Coast Guard Auxiliary member. We value his experience and knowledge. Reservations for seasonal docks and moorings have been brisk this winter. If you haven t yet reserved your space, you may want to do so soon as spots are filling more quickly this year. Please contact the Marina Office at (802) or marina@appleislandresort.com if you wish to rent a dock or mooring for the season. We are also accepting reservations by phone for both boat rentals and transient docks for guests. ANNOUNCEMENT: Our rental fleet is growing. We have purchased a 4 th rental boat...a 20 Starcraft Pontoon Boat with 60 HP motor. This pontoon boat will hold up to 10 people. We will still have kayak, canoe, and pedal boat rentals. Instead of taking your daily walk or bicycling, rent a pedal boat and enjoy the lake while you are exercising. It costs less than $8.00 an hour. NATIONAL BOAT SAFETY WEEK...MAY A Boat Vermont Boating Safety Course has been scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings during Safe Boating Week (see full schedule below). We are hosting a Safe Boating Day at Apple Island Resort & Marina on Sunday, May 22 nd. The local Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla is teaching a Suddenly in Command class Sunday afternoon in the Community Center from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. This class is targeted mainly to secondary operators or passengers who may suddenly have to take control of a boat in an emergency. Other displays and/or seminars will be offered by the following organizations: VT State Police - Marine Division South Hero Rescue National Weather Service - Burlington Office Lake Champlain Committee Island Passages Kayak Tours (will present a seminar on hypothermia/hyperthermia) FREE Vessel Safety Checks will also be available at Apple Island Marina and in the Community Center parking lot. To celebrate the week, the Marina is offering a 25% discount on pontoon boat rentals. BOAT VERMONT BOATING SAFETY COURSES AT APPLE ISLAND RESORT Boating Safety Courses will again be held at the Apple Island Resort Community Center this season. Classes are coordinated by Dean with Vermont State Police and US Coast Guard Flotilla All courses are FREE. Each class will be 3 hours each night for 3 nights; a total of 9 hours. Classes run from 7:00pm until 10:00pm each night. Classes will be held each month May through September as follows: May 23, 25, 26 July 18, 20, 21 September 12, 14, 15 June 20, 22, 23 August 15, 17, 18 FISHING TOURNAMENTS There will be 5 fishing tournaments in our area this summer, & Apple Island Marina will be the official weigh-in station. If you want to show your grandkids some BIG FISH, take a walk down to the Marina on any of the following dates. Matt has a fun season planned for everyone. There are Fun Saturday Tournaments, additional Member Tournaments, golf schools, and Get Golf Ready lesson programs. Seasonal Golf Members receive FREE golf instruction. Summer residents of the Resort receive a 10% discount at the club when they wear their red wristband. The discount is valid for membership fees. Monday is Junior Day at the course. 16 & under 2 price with one full green fee paying adult. Tuesday is Ladies Day. Ladies play all day for $ Wednesday is Senior Day. Age 65 & over play for 2 price. 9 Ac t i v i t i e s A b o u n d Our Activities Director, Lori Ploof, spent considerable time scheduling the activities and events for 2016 with our residents and guests in mind. The calendar is on the resort s website to view any time. We have included the list of activities, along with the daily schedule, for your convenience. Most of the events are for residents and guests only. There are, however, a few dates where the public is invited. Wristband Reminder A wristband is required to be worn when using the amenities and participating in events. Wristbands are issued to registered guests upon check-in. Visitors receive a wristband when registering at the office and paying a fee, if applicable. Residents, please be sure to have your wristband with you at the resort as these are not re-issued each season. A RED wristband permits the wearer to eat for free at the FREE BBQs. Visitors with other colored wristbands will be charged $5.00 for these meals, unless otherwise noted.
